Boost Technology, Economy To Stop ‘Dadagiri' By Other Nations, Says Gadkari Amid US Tariffs
Gadkari's remarks come at a time when the country is facing the highest-ever tariff imposed on any nation.
Speaking at the Annual Prestigious Oration Program in Memory of the late Dr Prof VG Bhidel on Saturday, Gadkari added that if India acquires better technology and resources, the country would focus not on dominance, but on the welfare of the world.
"If our exports increase and the economy and growth rate rise, then I don't think we will need to go to anyone. Today, those who are doing dadagiri (bullying) are doing so because they are economically well-off; they bully because they have technology. If we get better technology and resources than them, we won't need to bully anyone, our culture teaches us to work for the welfare of the world," he said.
Gadkari added IITs and IIMs must focus on solving the country's specific needs through targeted research to help India become a global leader.
"One of the key priorities today is to reduce the country's imports while increasing exports, as this is essential for India to emerge as a global leader. Our premier research institutions, such as the IITs and IIMs, should focus on identifying and addressing the nation's specific needs through targeted research, which is crucial for achieving this goal,"he said.

Delhiites lost Rs 70 crore to cyber conmen in 184 cases in first half of 2025: Govt in Lok Sabha
Residents of Delhi lost around Rs 70 crore to cyber fraud cases registered in the Capital in the first six months of this year, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said in Lok Sabha while answering a query about cybercrime in the city. As per data presented, the number of cyber financial fraud cases registered up to June 30 this year was 184. Last year, the number stood at around Rs 817 crore with 1,591 cases. Data also shows that Rs 64 crore was lost to cybercrimes, the highest number in the last 11 years from 2014. Rai also mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs provides financial assistance under the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) scheme, to states and Union Territories for their capacity building such as setting up of cyber forensic cum training laboratories, hiring of junior cyber consultants, and training of law enforcement agencies personnel, public prosecutors and judicial officers. In addition, the Delhi Police have set up Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) equipped with the latest equipment and software to investigate complex and sensitive cyber crime cases. Besides, one Cyber Police Station in each of the 15 districts of the Delhi Police has become functional since 2022 to deal with cybercrime-related cases in Delhi, Rai said. Rai added that help desks at all police stations are equipped to assist women affected by cybercrimes. A specialised unit, Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), is also functioning under the Delhi Police to handle such cases with sensitivity and urgency. The Indian Express reached out to the Delhi Police spokesperson to ask about the number of cases this year compared to 2024, even though cases of cyber fraud are being reported regularly. Clear stand on internal reservation by Aug 16: BJP
Bengaluru: The BJP has urged the Congress-led state government on Tuesday to make its stand clear on the issue of internal reservation by August 16 and warned of a large scale protest if the government fails to reciprocate. Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader A. Narayanaswamy said: "The Congress-led government in Karnataka must announce a clear decision on internal reservation by August 16. If it fails to do so, we will launch a non-cooperation movement against it after August 16." He was speaking to the media at a workshop organised by the Karnataka Madiga Organisations' Federation at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall in Bengaluru regarding the implementation of the Justice Nagamohan Das report. Narayanaswamy said that going by the overall findings of the reports, reservation for Madigas should be increased from six to seven or eight per cent. He stressed that the state government should not stop at just providing reservation but should also announce special schemes for the community. "In the Common Entrance Test results, Madigas have qualified in very small numbers. Out of 2,500 seats available in state universities, only 600 are taken by students from our community. This reflects our educational condition," he said. He noted that the report recommends internal reservation based on population, and within that population there are 36.69 lakh Madigas. "If another related community is included, the number goes up to 41 lakh. This fact should not be overlooked," he said in response to a query. "If the Cabinet is committed to social justice, it should make an announcement on internal reservation by August 16. Otherwise, no further meetings will be held and agitation will be launched," he declared.
