The
Baltimore Orioles
have a lot of young players, and some of them, such as
Gunnar Henderson
, are already stars. They've made the playoffs two years in a row. But all is not well. The Orioles got beat up by the Yankees, and some folks believe they are missing something. MLB veteran Trevor Plouffe feels that the team needs older, more experienced players to guide them.
Gunnar Henderson hits a home run but Orioles still lose big
Tuesday night, Gunnar Henderson gave Orioles fans a little something to cheer about. He homered in the seventh inning, his third of the season. He has a five-game hitting streak and is getting better at the plate.
But unfortunately, that was the best moment for Baltimore. The Yankees devastated the Orioles by 15-3. New York scored five runs in the first inning and continued to score in the fourth and fifth innings. The Orioles' pitching just couldn't hold them back.
The Yankees hit six home runs. Two of them were by Ben Rice. The rest were by Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Austin Wells, and Trent Grisham with one each. The Orioles couldn't match that. Their sole home run was by Gunnar Henderson.
Gunnar Henderson paces Young Orioles but club might require Veterans
Despite talented youngsters such as Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman, the Orioles are not doing well this year. They now have 11 wins and 18 losses. They are last in the AL East. The fans are beginning to get concerned about the direction of the team.
This was discussed by former MLB player Trevor Plouffe. He said the Orioles are nice, but they're still pretty young. He thinks they need veteran players, older teammates who can lead, address the group, and teach them how to win games that are hard to win. Trevor Plouffe described,
"You need to bring in veterans for teams like this. They're still a fairly young team."
Pundits on social media are now discussing this concept. Some agree with Trevor Plouffe. Others remain convinced about the young guns such as Gunnar Henderson. But one thing is certain: the Orioles need to shape up quickly if they desire to make it to the playoffs again.

Yankees insider reveals why Marcus Stroman's future is now in danger after Ryan Yarbrough's big game
Yankees insider reveals why Marcus Stroman's future is now in danger after Ryan Yarbrough's big game (Image via Getty) There's growing talk in New York about a star pitcher possibly losing his place. Fans have started to notice something is off. A strong name like Marcus Stroman, once expected to lead, is now missing from action. A few days off can change everything in sports, and insiders now say Stroman may be on the edge of something much bigger than just a short break. Marcus Stroman's struggle with Yankees raises serious questions On April 12, 2025, Marcus Stroman, the veteran pitcher for the New York Yankees, was placed on the injured list due to knee inflammation. Before that, his performance was disappointing, with an ERA of 11.57 in just three starts. After signing a $37 million, two-year deal with the team before the 2024 season, this was far from what the Yankees had hoped for. He didn't even pitch during the team's 2024 playoff run. — msports_all (@msports_all) In a recent episode of the 'Locked On Yankees' podcast, sports insider Brian McKeon shared a strong opinion. He said Stroman 'feels like he's been Wally Pipped almost off this roster.' The Wally Pipp reference goes back to a moment in Yankees history where one player missed a game due to a headache and was replaced forever. McKeon said, 'I'm going to be honest with you… I don't know what the role is for Marcus Stroman.' Earlier this year in spring training, Stroman clearly said he would not pitch from the bullpen. But now he's changed his view, saying he's 'open to anything.' That change may not be enough, though. Also Read: Yankees' Aaron Boone Calls Out Umps For 'No Courage' After Heated 10th‑Inning Ejection In Yankees‑Red Sox Game Ryan Yarbrough's rise may seal Marcus Stroman's fate The main reason insiders believe Stroman could be done in New York is the strong performance of Ryan Yarbrough, who stepped up in Stroman's absence. Yarbrough has pitched 50 innings this season with a 3.96 ERA. In early June, he gave up eight runs to the Boston Red Sox, but came back strong in his next start, allowing just one run to the same team. Brian McKeon added, 'There is less than a 0% chance they platoon Yarbrough and Stroman.' Manager Aaron Boone also praised Yarbrough publicly, saying, 'Yarbs has done a great job for us.' Boone mentioned his soft-pitch style and called him 'a guy who keeps hitters off balance.' Right now, the Yankees have five solid starting pitchers, including Carlos Rodón, Max Fried, and Clarke Schmidt. Will Warren, a young talent, is also making his case. Luis Gil, last year's AL Rookie of the Year, is set to return around the All-Star break, and Gerrit Cole will be back next season. With so much depth, there might not be room for Stroman anymore.

Mullins and Sánchez hit back-to-back home runs to key Orioles' 6-5 victory over Angels
BALTIMORE — Cedric Mullins and Gary Sánchez hit back-to-back home runs to give Baltimore the lead and Félix Bautista finished off the Orioles' 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday with his second straight save. Mullins hit his 11th home run, a two-run shot off Angels starter Tyler Anderson in the sixth, and Sánchez followed with his first homer with the Orioles for a 6-4 lead. Bautista topped 100 mph for the first time since 2023 on a fastball to Mike Trout before Trout flied to right field for the second out in the ninth. Bautista walked Taylor Ward before striking out Logan O'Hoppe on the ninth pitch of the at-bat and his 22nd pitch in the inning. Bautista has 14 saves in 15 opportunities. Trout homered high off the foul pole in left field after Zach Neto drew a leadoff walk from Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano to give the Angels a 2-0 lead in the first. It was his 11th home run this season and the 389th of his career. LA's Luis Rengifo hit solo homers from both sides of the plate for the third time in his career after entering with just one on the season. He homered off lefty Keegan Akin to give the Angels a 4-3 lead in the sixth and again off right-hander Andrew Kittredge in the eighth to cut it to 6-5. Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg had RBI singles in the third to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. Anderson allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings. He is 0-4 in 10 starts since beating the Giants on April 18. Sugano gave up three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Akin got four outs, including the final one in the fifth with the bases loaded to keep it tied at 3. Mullins has been involved in three of the Orioles' six back-to-back homers this season. Baltimore rookie Coby Mayo had his first multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a double for his first extra-base hit at home. Angels LHP Yusei Kikuchi will try to prevent a sweep when he starts Sunday's series finale against Orioles LHP Cade Povich .

Carlos Rodon and Max Fried have covered his spot in the team's rotation. Rodon, in particular, is having a strong season with 8 wins, 4 losses, a 2.87 ERA, 103 strikeouts, and a 0.94 WHIP. He is now being considered for what could be his third All-Star Game appearance. Gerrit Cole may not be on the field this year, but he and Amy are still playing a big role off the field.
