
Fox News Channel's Panel Show ‘The Five' Just Made Cable News History
Katie Pavlich couldn't resist raving at one point during Thursday's episode of The Five that the House of Representatives' passage that same day of President Trump's domestic policy bill represented a 'big, beautiful win for America.'
Appropriating the same rhetorical flourish that Trump himself popularized in reference to the nearly 900-page budget reconciliation package, Pavlich then went on to poke fun at Democrats for 'throwing a hissy fit' over their legislative loss. In response to a tweet from President Biden that was put on the screen for viewers of The Five, Pavlich continued: 'Joe Biden campaigned on being a moderate and governed like a far-left lunatic, essentially, and a lot of this bill takes back a number of things that he implemented during his term.'
That kind of sharp commentary, mixed with rapid-fire hot takes about the day's news from a rotating panel of hosts, is the simple formula that Fox News Channel's 5 p.m. talk show has parlayed into cable news dominance. And enough viewers keep tuning in to the show to hear panelists break down the news that it's not only become a ratings juggernaut for Fox — The Five also just made television history in the second quarter of this year:
It's now the first non-primetime program ever to finish as the most-watched cable news offering for 15 consecutive quarters.

Look even closer at the second quarter ratings data, and the trend gets even more interesting: At a time when CNN just saw its worst quarter in history in terms of viewership in the key demo, the parent network of The Five just finished its second highest-rated second quarter in history among weekday total day viewers, behind only 2020's coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fox News now owns 62% of the total day cable news audience and 63% in primetime.
Both CNN and MSNBC, meanwhile, not only saw double-digit declines in their audiences during the quarter, according to Nielsen data — those two networks are also set to be spun off by their respective parent companies, while The Five alone grew its viewership in the 25-54 demo 52% year-over-year.
It's hard to overstate just how crucial the show has become to Fox's daily program schedule. In the second quarter, The Five also surpassed a slew of major broadcast programs, with Nielsen estimates revealing that The Five outperformed everything from the CBS Evening News to NBC's Law & Order, and CBS' NCIS: Origins — programs that boast a much larger reach in terms of broadcast households. Yet despite being available in far fewer homes as those broadcast giants reach, The Five consistently outranked them, delivering an average of 3.9 million total viewers and 410,000 viewers in the key 25-54 demo.
Those numbers reveal two important facts: The Fox talk show is capturing not only traditional cable news audiences but also viewers in the younger, more sought-after demographic. And it's still doing so almost 15 years after its debut.
The fact that the show has seen a steady number of guest hosts cycle on and off the panel over the years is also further evidence that the formula itself is strong enough to keep viewers coming back. Considering the fact that when The Five originally premiered in July 2011 it was as a replacement for Glenn Beck's show and only meant to run during the summer, the show's success is all the more remarkable.
It quickly outperformed expectations, winning its time slot and scoring a permanent renewal just a few months after its debut. Since then, the ratings trend line for The Five has only really flowed in one direction — up and to the right.

More than $45 billion in the 'big, beautiful bill' that President Trump signed Friday is earmarked for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention space, which officials say will add up tens of thousands of beds for migrants being held in federal custody. An estimated $170 billion of the bill has been designated for immigration enforcement as the Trump administration has promised to orchestrate the largest mass deportation effort in American history. But the funding that has been devoted to ICE detention space in the final bill. passed by the House on Thursday, is more than the government spent on housing migrants during the Obama, Biden and first Trump administrations combined, The Washington Post reported. Federal officials estimate the $45 billion will provide an additional 100,000 beds in ICE facilities at a time when ICE has nearly 56,400 migrants in its detention centers nationwide as of mid-June, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse. The number of detainees increased by more than 5,000 during the first two weeks of June. Data showed that of those detained, 28 percent have a prior criminal conviction, while 25 percent have pending criminal charges. The funding bump in the bill was approved after Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary (DHS) Kristi Noem toured a new detention facility that administration officials have called 'Alligator Alcatraz.' White House Border Czar Tom Homan told NewsNation's 'CUOMO' this week that the facility in the Florida Everglades will cost an estimated $450 million to operate each year. But officials said the facility could be a blueprint for more ICE detention centers that the government plans to open now that funding has been approved. President Donald Trump, Gov. 'So, this will give us a little breathing room, give us extra beds so we can target more criminals throughout the country.' The border czar had previously called on Congress to provide more funding for detention that would allow ICE to detain migrants taken into federal custody. In June, the agency published a list of more than 40 contractors that could assist with the 'emergency acquisition' of space for migrant detainees, the Post reported. In addition to the $45 billion set aside for ICE detention and agents, the funding bill that was approved by Congress this week allocates another $46 billion for continued construction of the border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Real Clear Politics reported this week that the $45 billion that will be devoted to ICE represents a 265 percent increase in its current detention budget, which will be higher than that of the American prison system. The current load of detainees is the highest since that data has been compiled by ICE since the first time Trump was in office. In addition to providing more beds, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in an emailed statement to the Post that the funding for ICE in the bill will allow the agency to hire an additional 10,000 federal agents. Officials announced earlier this year that the agency's migrant detention centers were at capacity. The government contracts with private prison companies to operate detention facilities. The two main companies, CoreCivic and the GEO Group, have been awarded nine contracts by ICE for expanded detention, per the Post. Contracts have also been awarded to companies to produce temporary tent structures, which would be used to house migrants, the report said. Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) determined through a Freedom of Information Act request that private companies were looking to enter into government contracts in states like Michigan, California, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Washington state. The Post's report indicated that CoreCivic and the Geo Group already own prisons that are sitting empty in several states, including Kansas (Leavenworth), Colorado, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. The ACLU also reported that in 2022, the GEO Group made $1.05 billion in revenue from ICE contracts alone, while CoreCivic made $552.2 million during the same year. 'Never in our 42-year company history have we had so much activity and demand for our services as we are seeing right now,' said CoreCivic CEO Damon Hininger during an earnings call in May with shareholders, according to The Associated Press. The expansion of detention space comes at a time when more than a dozen people have died in ICE facilities since October, including 10 during 2025. In 2024, an ACLU report indicated that 95 percent of deaths that took place in ICE facilities between 2017 and 2021 could have been prevented or possibly prevented. That investigation, which was conducted by the ACLU, American Oversight and Physicians for Human Rights, analyzed the deaths of the 52 people who died in ICE custody during that time frame.

New Jersey's Millennium Skate World rolls into summer with low-cost sessions, community programs
Millennium Skate World, a roller-skating rink that has been a fixture in Camden, New Jersey, for nearly 25 years, is rolling into the summer season with a slate of low-cost sessions and community programs aimed at keeping residents active and cool. Located at 1900 Carman Street, just minutes from the Ben Franklin Bridge, the indoor rink will mark its 25th anniversary on Dec. 14. General manager Tracy Medley said the venue's mission is to ensure "clean, fun, friendly and safe" recreation that families can afford. "We are very affordable. We have special family days, [it's] only $6 admission, and then the skate rental is $5," Medley said. Millennium's weekly schedule includes day-camp sessions, public skating and late-night adult skates every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. In partnership with the city, Millennium offers a free skate day for Camden residents once a month. Police officers and Mayor Victor Carstarphen hand out "golden tickets" — free passes awarded to children caught doing good deeds in the community. "Whenever they're out in the community and the officers observe someone doing a good job, then they give out a free pass for them to be able to enjoy skating. And they get free admission and free skate rental when they receive one of those tickets," Medley said. For 10-year-old Jamie Marrero, the rink is a way to build confidence. "It really expresses who I am," she said. "I feel like I have a place in the community when I'm skating." Todd Chrisley on 28-month jail stay: ‘They called me Teflon Todd'
Former reality star Todd Chrisley recently opened up on what was going through his mind during his 28-month jail stay. Speaking on his daughter Savannah Chrisley's 'Unlocked' podcast, Chrisley admitted he wasn't himself at all. 'I feel like I did a podcast for 28 months with all the people that were around me,' he said. 'They called me 'Teflon Todd.'' Todd and wife Julie Chrisley, who was alongside him for the interview, were both pardoned by President Trump back in May after being convicted on federal charges of tax evasion, bank and wire fraud, and conspiracy in June 2022. Savannah Chrisley had advocated for her parents' release while also publicly supporting Trump. In a press conference, she blamed the judge — who was appointed by former President Obama — for allowing what she called 'illegal' evidence. 'In my head, I was still free,' Chrisley acknowledged. 'I did not take up residence there. I was in prison; prison was not in me.' He added that during his time behind bars he prayed and read his Bible most of the time. In addition, Chrisley admitted he made friendships during his time to help him get through. The reality star was also in the same prison as Rick Singer, the mastermind behind the 2019 college admissions scandal. The Chrisleys were among a flurry of pardons issued by Trump. Both had been rejected by the typical lengthy pardon process that includes review from the Justice Department. Chrisley maintains that the trial and conviction were unfair and that he and his wife should never have been convicted. The Chrisleys are set to return to television on Lifetime soon, with the new program revolving around the family's challenge of carrying on their name and legacy on their own.
