36-hour standoff with heavily armed suspect continues in Fredonia
Attempts to de-escalate the situation with the suspect "continued through the night and were unsuccessful," the sheriff's office wrote in a Facebook post at 6:20 a.m. on May 10.
According to the sheriff's office, the subject has continued to threaten to kill officers if they enter his home.
"Safety remains the top priority, and we will continue to be patient until we can safely end the situation," the sheriff's office wrote.
This situation has been ongoing since the evening of May 8, when authorities received a report from a resident on Fox Glen Road in Fredonia of multiple gunshots throughout the day. Other residents made similar calls, according to authorities.
At around 10:30 p.m. on May 8, the homeowner was reached by phone and acknowledged playing loud music and firing weapons from the residence, authorities said.
According to the sheriff's office, the suspect said he was going to continue playing music and "if anyone came to his residence, he would shoot them." Shortly after the phone conversation, deputies on the scene heard multiple gunshots coming from his residence.
The sheriff's office said the suspect was discharging several firearms in unknown directions, including an automatic rifle. The suspect remained uncooperative and made explicit threats toward law enforcement stating "he'd go full auto" and would "kill anyone who approached," according to the sheriff's office.
On multiple occasions, the suspect was observed aiming a rifle in the direction of law enforcement armored vehicles stationed on the scene.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said it is being assisted by numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Washington County Sheriff's Office SWAT, Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office SWAT, Port Washington Police Department, Saukville Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and others.
This is an ongoing investigation, authorities said.

San Jose bus driver attacked by knife-wielding passenger
A San Jose man is suspected of using a knife to attack a bus driver on Wednesday morning, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said. The Sheriff's Office said witnesses told them that around 7 a.m., a passenger was repeatedly pulling the stop request cord, which prompted a confrontation with the bus driver. During the confrontation, the passenger allegedly became aggressive, pulled out a large kitchen knife, and attacked the driver, the Sheriff's Office said. The bus driver was slashed three times while trying to defend himself. The passenger then got off the bus and ran from the scene, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies were called to the scene near Blossom Hill Road and Hillview Avenue, and the Sheriff's Office said the suspect was found nearby and taken into custody without incident. The Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 23-year-old Darrian Lewis of San Jose. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, concealing a dirk or dagger, elder abuse and probation violation. "Violence against transit workers – or anyone on our public transportation system – will not be tolerated," the Sheriff's Office said. The bus driver was treated for his injuries.
