Led by Bhadohi, UP contributes over to 60% of India's carpet exports: CM Yogi
Lucknow: Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the revival of the carpet industry, Yogi Adityanath said that the industry faced severe challenges around 10 years ago. However, the govt provided workers with a conducive environment, and now UP contributes 60% of the country's carpet exports, with Bhadohi alone accounting for more than 60% of that.
The district has also received a GI tag for its carpets.
In Bhadohi for a few hours before he went to Varanasi on Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting of ongoing projects and gave immediate approval for two projects. These included a bridge over the Ganga near Dengurpur in Sitamarhi and a railway overbridge between Gopiganj and Mirzapur.
"Bhadohi's craftsmanship has given both the state and the country a unique identity.
Multiple govt-led initiatives have been launched to support entrepreneurs and artisans. The aim is to further promote and support India's ancient handicrafts and establish a stronger international market presence," he said.
The CM directed officials to prioritise residential facilities for officers and staff at the district headquarters and also sought a report on the status of outsourced sanitation workers under the panchayati raj department.

He directed officials to improve road connectivity to the district headquarters and expedite work on the approved mini stadium. The CM also highlighted that an auditorium was sanctioned for the district headquarters but is now being developed as a multipurpose hall.
During his visit to the city, the CM inspected the district hospital and said that it was his govt which ensured the completion of the project, which until 2017 was a symbol of past govts' inefficiency and corruption.
Reviewing the ongoing construction of a new 50-bedded critical care centre, the CM said that funds were sanctioned for the renovation of the hospital's old building. The Rajkiya Nirman Nigam has been assigned to complete the work by December 2025.
He added that efforts were underway to set up a medical college in Bhadohi under the PPP model.
Announcing that the land requirements for the Kashi Naresh Rajkiya PG College were submitted to the govt and that an agricultural faculty was already provided, the CM said if another 50 acres of land or more became available, the institution could be developed into a state university. He also praised the collaborative efforts of the district administration, public representatives, and citizens in rejuvenating the Morwa river.

Myanmar woman arrested for Suu Kyi 'happy birthday' post: Local media
file image YANGON: A Myanmar woman arrested by the junta for "spreading propaganda" is being detained over a Facebook post celebrating the 80th birthday of jailed democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, local media said. Suu Kyi was the figurehead of Myanmar's decade-long democratic thaw, becoming de facto leader as it opened up from military rule, but she has been incarcerated since February 2021 when the generals snatched back power in a coup. She is serving a 27-year sentence on charges rights groups dismiss as fabricated and on Thursday marked her birthday behind bars while her son urged followers to publish messages declaring their support. Myanmar's junta said in a statement over the weekend it had arrested two Facebook users for "inciting and spreading propaganda on social media with the intention to destroy state stability". One of those detained -Hinn Yin Phyu -was arrested at accommodation for employees of state media station MRTV in the capital Naypyidaw on Saturday, the statement said, without providing details of her posts. The Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) reported on Monday that Hinn Yin Phyu was an MRTV employee who had been arrested after posting a "happy birthday" message for Suu Kyi, citing sources close to the detained woman. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "May you live long and be free from illness, may you be free from the suffering caused by separation from your loved ones throughout your life, and may you only meet good people," said the now-deleted post, according to DVB. Despite being blocked in a digital crackdown accompanying the coup, Facebook remains Myanmar's most popular social media platform. State notices announcing arrests over social media use are commonplace but usually provide scant detail of alleged transgressions. A spokesman for Myanmar's junta could not be reached for comment on the arrest. Suu Kyi won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize as she refused to enter exile to escape her first period of incarceration by Myanmar's military. As she guided the country through its democratic interlude her reputation was tarnished on the international stage after she defended the military for their crackdown on the Rohingya Muslim minority. When the generals toppled her government it sparked a protest movement that security forces swiftly crushed in the streets. Since then the country has descended into civil war as pro-democracy activists formed guerrilla units to fight back, alongside ethnic armed organisations that have been battling the military in Myanmar's fringes for decades.

"It was a massacre," said Ahmed Halawa. He said tanks and drones fired at people, "even as we were fleeing. Many people were either martyred or wounded". Live Events Hossam Abu Shahada, another eyewitness, said drones were flying over the area, watching the crowds first, then there was gunfire from tanks and drones as people were moving eastward. He described a "chaotic and bloody" scene as people were attempting to escape. He said he saw at least three people lying on the ground motionless and many others wounded as he fled the site. The Awda hospital said another 146 Palestinians were wounded. Among them were 62 in critical condition, who were transferred to other hospitals in central Gaza, it said. In the central town of Deir al-Balah, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital said it received the bodies of six people who were killed in the same incident. The deaths were the latest in Israel-Hamas war in Gaza which killed about 56,000 Palestinians, according to the strip's health ministry. The ministry doesn't distinguish between civilians and combatants but say more than a half of the dead were women and children. Israel launched its campaign in Gaza after Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, in which militants killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took another 251 hostages. Most of the hostages were released by ceasefire agreements.
