Three foreigners rescued after blaze rips through PJ grocery warehouse on Jalan Tandang
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 3.05am, prompting the deployment of 16 firefighters and five engines to the scene.
'The fire involved the ground floor of a 60-by-100-foot warehouse. About 40 per cent of the structure was affected. We managed to bring the blaze under control by 4.04 am,' he said in a statement today.
The rescued victims were identified as a male Indian national, a Myanmar man, and a Myanmar woman.
The firefighting operation was led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Shahrul Nizam Shamshudin, with personnel from the Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya and Damansara fire stations.
The cause of the fire and estimated losses have yet to be determined. — Bernama

Malaysia turns away 99 foreign arrivals at KLIA after seven-hour border sweep
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) denied entry to 99 foreign arrivals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 yesterday after they failed security screenings. The agency's corporate communications unit said that the arrivals were denied entry to the country as a result of detailed checks of over 400 individuals in a special seven-hour operation targeting high-risk flights. 'Those denied entry were all men, 80 Bangladeshi, 10 Indians and nine Pakistani. They were denied as they failed to meet immigration checks, including having suspicious reasons for visiting and travel records. 'They underwent further documentation processes before being deported to their countries of origin according to existing legal procedures,' the agency said in a statement today, adding that the checks involved background screening, checks on travel documents and individual interviews. CCTV under review as police hunt suspects in RM1.8m robbery at Dr Mahathir's grandchild's home
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — Police are studying closed circuit television (CCTV) footage to track the suspects involved in the robbery of former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's grandchild's residence in Bukit Ledang here on Wednesday, which resulted in losses of RM1.8 million. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan said they were investigating the case when contacted by Bernama. 'We are looking into it and as of yesterday, we have yet to be able to identify (the suspect). We are also studying CCTV footage of the victim's residence,' he said briefly. He had confirmed yesterday to the media that a residence belonging to the former prime minister's grandchild had been broken into and jewellery worth RM1.8 million had been stolen. The break-in was discovered by a domestic helper at 3 pm after they discovered the padlock on the back gate had been cut and thieves had gotten into the residence. — Bernama
