Gwalior to host Madhya Pradesh League from June 12
Gwalior: The Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is set to return for its latest season, commencing June 12 with matches being held in Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium here in Shankarpur. The League has been relocated from Indore to Gwalior in view of the advancing monsoon in Indore and delay in the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Interestingly, Gwalior also hosted the inaugural edition of MPL last year, making it a familiar venue for players and organisers alike. Originally, the league was set to commence on May 27 in Indore, aligning with the IPL's earlier scheduled conclusion on May 25.
Organised by Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) under the aegis of MP Cricket Association, the men's competition, which featured five teams last season, has been expanded to seven, with the inclusion of teams from the Bundelkhand and Chambal regions.
The jersey unveiling ceremony will also take place in Gwalior on May 27. This season will witness the launch of a Women's Cricket League, which will be held alongside the men's matches. The women's competition will feature three teams, including one representing the capital city of Bhopal.
Speaking about the Madhya Pradesh League, Chairman Mahanaaryaman Scindia said, "Gwalior holds a special place in the hearts of our players and fans, and we are thrilled to return here. With two new men's teams and the introduction of our inaugural Women's League, we're proud to expand opportunities for talent across Madhya Pradesh."
Speaking about the date and tournament, Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) CEO Ravi Patankar said, "We are pleased to confirm that all logistical preparations for the venue shift have been successfully completed. With the new start date firmly in place, we look forward to delivering an exciting and seamless tournament for players and fans alike.'
Men's teams: Gwalior Cheetahs, Bhopal Leopards, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Rewa Jaguars, Indore Pink Panthers, Chambal Ghariyals, Bundelkhand Bulls
Women's teams: Chambal Ghariyals, Bhopal Wolves, Bundelkhand Bulls.

That's what has happened today as well. "Looks like a good, nice, hard pitch. Bowlers have been in the game all throughout, have been bowling some really good spells. Batsmen also showed some character. It's always good when you are competing against each other as well. "All of us are excited and enjoying what's happening... Bengaluru stampede: Two senior IAS officers under scanner over RCB felicitation mishandling
The Karnataka government is now scrutinising the involvement of two senior IAS officers in the organisation of a felicitation event for IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 4, which preceded a stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian Express reported. According to the report, the investigation includes a close look at miscommunications and decisions made by top officials, including the former political secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Indian Express report also reveals that these officers were instrumental in persuading the Congress-led state government to approve an official state felicitation at the Vidhana Soudha, even as the Bengaluru police had raised red flags over crowd control and security clearances. DPAR secretary Sathyavathi G, who oversaw the Vidhana Soudha event after receiving approvals from the chief secretary and CM, had publicly stated that a victory parade would follow the felicitation. This was despite the absence of a police green light for such a parade. Video recordings from her media address on June 4 show her urging fans to skip the Vidhana Soudha event due to security sensitivities and instead attend the stadium celebration. However, the report also suggests that her public remarks contradicted a meeting held earlier that day, where the city police commissioner reportedly objected to the parade. Police have since filed criminal complaints against RCB, KSCA, and event manager DNA Networks, alleging that social media messages promoting an open-access parade were shared without police clearance as early as 7 am on June 4, contributing to crowd chaos at the stadium. The role of K Govindaraju, the CM's former political secretary and a seasoned sports administrator, is also under scrutiny. Reports say he was pivotal in pushing through approvals for the celebrations. Following the tragedy, he was dismissed from his post on June 6, the report further added. Three senior IPS officers, including Police Commissioner B Dayananda, were suspended on June 5 for failing to keep the CM informed of unfolding developments, including the fatalities.
