Japan's Nikkei share average slipped from a record high to end lower on Tuesday, as investors weighed Wall Street's muted overnight finish, raising concerns that markets have advanced too far, too fast.The Nikkei index closed 0.38% lower at 43,546.29, after rising to a record high of 43,876.42 earlier in the session.The broader Topix also gave up early gains to end 0.14% lower at 3,116.63."Caution about the fast-pitched rally prompted investors to book profits," said Shoichi Arisawa, general manager of the investment research department at IwaiCosmo Securities."Sentiment is strong so if the market sees any positive cues, the momentum will be back," he said.Wall Street's main indexes closed roughly flat on Monday, after struggling for direction as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's annual symposium in Jackson Hole.Investors will monitor the conference, held from August 21-23, where Chair Jerome Powell is expected to speak. It could offer more clarity on the U.S. economic outlook and the Fed's policy framework.Central bank s' policies will be key for the Nikkei in the coming sessions as there are expectations that the Bank of Japan may raise interest rates at its September policy meeting, said Takamasa Ikeda, a senior portfolio manager at GCI Asset Management.SoftBank Group reversed early gains to end 4% lower on Tuesday, becoming the biggest drag for the Nikkei, following news that the Japanese technology investor is taking a $2 billion equity stake in Intel.SoftBank shares have surged 36% so far this month, far outpacing the Nikkei's 9.2% gain.Uniqlo-brand owner Fast Retailing slipped 1.26%.Bucking the trend, chip-making equipment maker Tokyo Electron rose 0.83%. Drugmaker Chugai Pharmaceutical jumped 4.46%, providing the biggest boost to the Nikkei.

The price of 22-carat gold also declined by ₹10, with ten grams of the yellow metal selling at ₹92,340. The price of ten grams of 24-carat gold in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai stood at ₹1,00,740. In Delhi, the price of ten grams of 24-carat gold stood at ₹1,00,890. In Mumbai, the price of ten grams of 22-carat gold is in line with that of Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad at ₹92,340. The price of one kilogram of silver in Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai stood at ₹1,15,900. The price of one kilogram of silver in Chennai stood at ₹1,25,900. US gold prices inched lower on Wednesday to their lowest level in nearly three weeks as the dollar strengthened, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole symposium later this week for clues on the path for monetary policy. Spot gold was down 0.1 per cent at $3,312.79 per ounce, as of 0035 GMT, after reaching its lowest level since August 1. Elsewhere, spot silver held steady at $37.35 per ounce, platinum gained 0.3 per cent to $1,309.35 and palladium was down 0.4 per cent to $1,110.50.

Stocks to Watch today, August 20, 2025: Indian equities are poised for a negative start, amid mixed global cues. Last seen, GIFT Nifty futures were down 67 points at 24,967. Globally, investors await the Federal Reserve's annual symposium at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from August 21 to August 23, where Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's comments will be scrutinised for any clues on the central bank's outlook on the economy and monetary policy. Overnight, US markets settled mixed, with the Dow Jones up 0.02 per cent, but the S&P 500 down 0.59 per cent and the Nasdaq down 1.46 per cent. In the Asia-Pacific region, Chinese markets traded mixed after the People's Bank of China (PBOC) kept the one-year loan prime rate (LPR) unchanged at 3 per cent, while the five-year LPR was at 3.5 per cent. Last checked, mainland China's CSI 300 was flat and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.86 per cent. That apart, Japan's Nikkei fell 1.58 per cent after the country's exports dropped 2.6 per cent year over year in July, notching their steepest drop in over four years. South Korea's Kospi slipped 2.03 per cent. However, Australia's ASX 200 was up 0.26 per cent. Paytm: Motilal Oswal AMC, through its various schemes, bought an additional 26.31 lakh shares (representing a 0.41 per cent stake) in Paytm, according to reports. HAL: The government cleared the ₹62,000 crore order to procure 97 additional indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A fighter jets from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Coal India: State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) signed a pact with Konkan Railway Corporation to develop rail infrastructure for the company and its subsidiaries. Fusion Finance: Microlender Fusion Finance Limited (FFL) is targeting recoveries of around ₹200 crore over the next 12 months from its ₹3,400 crore stressed assets book, which includes written-off loans and non-performing assets (NPAs). Globe Civil Projects: The company received an order from the Haryana Cricket Association, Bhiwani, for the construction of an International Cricket Stadium at Lohat, District Jhajjar, Haryana. IRFC: Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) has sanctioned and executed agreements for a fresh term loan facility of ₹199.7 crore with Surat Integrated Transportation Development Corporation Limited (SITCO) to support the development of the Surat Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH). GMR Power and Urban Infra: The board will mull the proposal for raising funds of up to ₹3000 crore in a meeting on Friday, August 22, 2025. Endurance Technologies: The company has evaluated and approved capacity addition for ABS, disc brake systems, and brake discs.
