UPA regime stood for scams, Modi-led NDA government for nation building: Minister Kishan
HYDERABAD: Union Coal & Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday said that while the 'remote-controlled' UPA regime was known for corruption and scams, the BJP-led NDA government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is synonymous with nation building and development.
'During UPA rule, the main headlines in all newspapers used to be on corruption in the government. But in the last 11 years, the Modi-led NDA government has been free of corruption,' he said.
The Union minister presided over the Viksit Sankalp Sabha in Secunderabad organised by Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender on completion of one year in office.
Kishan, who is also the president of the state BJP unit, said: 'In the past, terrorist attacks and bomb blasts used to be the norm. But in the last 11 years, there has been no such terror attack. With surgical and air strikes as well as several other operations, the country, under Modi's leadership, has succeeded in curbing terrorist activities. We responded to the recent Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam with Operation Sindoor.'
The Union minister also said that the Modi government was moving forward with a development agenda. 'The country is currently witnessing all-round development. Funds are being allocated for rural development, women empowerment, for improving road infrastructure and railway stations,' he said, adding that 32 out of 33 districts in Telangana have now been connected to national highways.
He also said that the Union government was distributing PDS rice for 80 crore people in the country.
Kishan, meanwhile, slammed the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government for 'failing' to fulfil promises made to the people. 'The Congress is also following in the footsteps of BRS and encouraging corruption,' he alleged.
Stating that the BJP is the only party that will be able to protect the interests of Telangana people, he exuded confidence in the saffron party forming the government in the state by winning the next Assembly elections.

Nilambur bypoll: UDF wrests back Assembly seat in Kerala with resounding win
United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath delivered a resounding triumph in the Nilambur Assembly byelection, outpacing Left Democratic Front (LDF)'s M. Swaraj by a significant margin of 11,077 votes as the votes polled on June 19, 2025 were counted at Mar Thoma Higher Secondary School, Chungathara, on Monday (June 23, 2025). The BJP's attempt to woo Christian farmers in the hillsides by fielding a Christian candidate also failed to yield results. UDF chairman and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan hailed Mr. Shoukath's victory as a testament to the collective strength of the team UDF. He lavished praise on the party constituents, particularly the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and its leadership, for their tireless efforts that ultimately paid off. Mr. Satheesan celebrated the victory as a triumph of the UDF's teamwork and dedication. He said the people of Nilambur gave the much needed fuel for the UDF's performance in the 2026 elections. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan fired back at the UDF's victory, alleging that it was facilitated by communal backing, a charge that the LDF had been levelling since the campaign began for the byelection. Mr. Shoukath turned emotional when he said that his father, the late veteran Congressman Aryadan Mohammed, was alive to see the UDF wresting back Nilambur from the LDF. Mr. Swaraj, however, denied the UDF leaders' claims that it was a verdict against the State government policies. Nilambur's result may be more about local issues than a rejection of the government's reforms and development initiatives, he said, adding that the LDF would review the failure and do what is needed.

AAP's Gopal Italia won the Visavadar Assembly seat with flying colours, having polled 75,942 votes and defeating the BJP's Kirit Patel in a see-saw battle by 17,554 votes after all 21 rounds of counting were completed. Italia and Patel fought an interesting battle for over 15 rounds, before the AAP candidate took a decisive lead in the later stages and came out on top. Congress's Nitin Ranpariya was a distant third with just 5,501 votes. However, it was smooth sailing for BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda in Kadi, who maintained a clear lead throughout and won the seat as he bagged 99,742 votes and defeated his nearest rival Ramesh Chavda by 39,452 votes, who polled 60,290 votes. Don't politicise anti-Naxal ops, ensure transparency: Sachin Pilot
Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday said the anti-Naxal operations should be carried out effectively in a transparent manner and the exercise should not be politicised. The Congress in-charge for Chhattisgarh was talking to reporters at the Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, after arriving here for a two-day visit during which he will chair a series of meetings with the party leaders. Asked about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent statement that anti-Naxal operations will be continued during the rainy season, Pilot, said, "The Congress has always been against violence and extremists. Our leaders have sacrificed their lives to keep this country and state safe." "Whatever effective action is to be taken, it should be taken. Action should be done in a transparent manner and it should not be politicised," he said. This is a matter of internal security. No one should do politics over this, the former Union minister said. Whatever action is taken, it should be done by taking everyone into confidence. "It should be effective, transparent and should not have any political colour," he added. Pilot said everyone should come together to end Naxalism not only in Chhattisgarh but also in other states which have been struggling with the menace. "Strict steps should be taken after a lot of should be transparent and accountable. Whatever conclusion comes out of this, the public should get its benefit. Action should be done on the ground and not by giving speeches again and again," he said. Briefing about his visit, the Congress leader said meetings will be held for two days to seek reports of works done by different wings and cells of the party's Chhattisgarh unit and chalk out a roadmap for future course of action. "(Senior Congress leaders) Mallikarjun Kharge ji and Rahul Gandhi ji have dedicated the year 2025 for the organisation. Therefore, we want to strengthen the organisation from booth to state level," Pilot said. "The changes that need to be made and the roadmap to be followed will be discussed in detail during Monday meetings. We will work to give a new direction to the party by holding continuous meetings for two days," he said. Pilot said he will also hold a meeting with Congress MLAs on Monday night to chalk out a strategy to corner the ruling BJP during the monsoon session of the state assembly next month.
