Night patrolling to ensure bars' timings under control
As part of the initiative, officers have been tasked with ensuring that wine shops strictly follow designated operating hours, prevent illegal retail sales, and avoid charging prices above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP). They have also been instructed to curb unauthorised sit-outs near liquor outlets. Cleanliness of the shop premises and proper maintenance of records are also to be ensured.
Lavanya emphasised the importance of ensuring functional CCTV surveillance systems at all liquor shops. Each constable has been assigned responsibility for monitoring three to four shops, while sub-inspectors, inspectors, and other senior officials will supervise the enforcement operations directly.
To strengthen monitoring and transparency, the Excise Department is set to launch a mobile application named Excise 'I', which will allow real-time supervision of activities in liquor shops and bars.
Citizens are encouraged to report any excise violations in their vicinity by calling the toll-free number 14405. The district Excise and Prohibition Officer warned that strict action would be taken against shop operators found violating licensing conditions.

It will conclude with Anant Chaturdashi on 6 September, a day marked by grand idol immersion ceremonies in designated water bodies. This day typically draws massive crowds, as devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha amid music, dance, and vibrant processions. Although only the first day of the festival is officially a dry day, the Excise Department may impose additional restrictions during the immersion period. A temporary ban around visarjan could be implemented to maintain law and order, manage traffic, and ensure safety during the high footfall at immersion points.

Liquor seized from former army officer
Kurnool: Following a tip-off, District Prohibition and Excise Officer M Sudhir Babu conducted a raid on the home of Nagesh Rao, a former army officer, in Tirumalagiri. The raid uncovered 53 bottles of various brands of Defence liquor, including Dewar's Whisky 18, Black Dog Gold 12, Dog Black Black 12, and Rockford 11. Rao admitted to purchasing the liquor from an army canteen in Bengaluru and illegally selling it at a higher price to army personnel in Kurnool. The seized liquor and Rao were taken into custody. Prohibition and Excise Inspector Chandrahas and Sub Inspector Rehana Begum were part of the raid team.

Raids conducted on over a dozen high-end salons for GST evasion
The Excise Department and Central GST teams Friday carried out joint raids on over a dozen high-end salons in the city. The action followed a series of complaints alleging that these salons were evading GST despite charging hefty amounts for their services. According to sources, many salons were providing premium services such as haircuts, hair colouring, makeup, spa treatments, and wedding packages — often charging large sums — but were not depositing the mandatory 18 per cent GST with the government. Also, customers were allegedly asked to pay in cash, and no invoices were issued. Records reflected only the sale and purchase of beauty products, while actual earnings from services were being concealed. The Excise Department seized records from prominent salons in sectors 8, 9, 26, 35, and other key locations. The excise teams have begun examining the last three years' returns and transaction details. Investigations have also revealed that some salons lured customers with 'discount' offers and then provided services without bills, making tax evasion easier, said sources. Meanwhile, the officials have urged citizens to always insist on a bill for any service to help curb tax evasion as paying GST not only strengthens government revenue but also safeguards consumer rights. The Excise Department has hinted at further inspections of salons and beauty parlours in the coming days. The seized records are currently under scrutiny, and cases of GST evasion will attract heavy penalties along with interest.
