The time when Dawson's Creek reboot almost happened, creator Kevin Williamson reveals

Express Tribune4 days ago

A Dawson's Creek revival with the original cast almost came to fruition, according to series creator Kevin Williamson.
In an exclusive interview with TV Insider, Williamson shared that, despite the show's 2003 finale providing a sense of closure, there were discussions about revisiting the iconic teen drama during the peak of the reboot craze following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The beloved series, which followed the lives of Joey (Katie Holmes), Pacey (Joshua Jackson), Dawson (James Van Der Beek), and their friends in the fictional town of Capeside, had concluded its five-season run with emotional farewells, including the death of Jen (Michelle Williams). However, the idea of a revival sparked interest from both the cast and the creator, with Williamson admitting that they were repeatedly approached during the height of reunion and reboot trends.
'James [Van Der Beek] wanted to do it, but then Josh [Jackson] was busy. Katie [Holmes] was on board, but then James wasn't available. No one could align their schedules,' Williamson explained, noting that while the cast was enthusiastic about the concept, timing proved to be a major hurdle.
Ultimately, the team reflected on the show's legacy and concluded that revisiting Dawson's Creek in its original form might not be the best direction. 'We kind of just went, 'We did it and it was good,'' Williamson said. 'We felt like maybe it could live again in another way, but not as a reboot.' While they considered possibilities, such as focusing on the next generation of characters, the revival ultimately did not move forward.
Despite the scheduling conflicts, Williamson remains busy with multiple projects, including directing Scream 7 and debuting his new series, The Waterfront. As for the original cast, Holmes, Jackson, and Van Der Beek are all involved in separate projects, with their individual careers keeping them occupied.

YouTuber infiltrates North Korea marathon and films shocking reality of life inside totalitarian state

When North Korea opened its doors to international competitors for a marathon this April, YouTuber Harry Jaggard seized the opportunity to infiltrate the reclusive country. As a frequent traveler to offbeat destinations, Jaggard saw this as his chance to capture rare footage for his YouTube channel. Though he isn't a marathoner, he quickly prepped for the challenge, finishing the race in 3 hours and 40 minutes, which he called 'a huge personal achievement.' Jaggard was stunned by the level of freedom he was granted to film during his five-day stay in Pyongyang. He expected minimal access, with only a few brief clips allowed, but to his surprise, he had the freedom to vlog openly. "It was crazy," Jaggard recalled, "they were very relaxed about it." This unexpected leniency was especially shocking given the country's authoritarian regime, which typically restricts foreign media presence. During his visit, Jaggard and his fellow competitors were given a curated tour of Pyongyang, including the subway system, war museums, and monuments to former leaders. Jaggard likened the experience to visiting only the most polished parts of a country, similar to a tourist only seeing the bright lights of Las Vegas in the U.S. Despite the rigid controls over what tourists could see, he was still impressed by the cleanliness and calm atmosphere of the city, though he noticed the ever-present propaganda. Jaggard was also surprised by the candid conversations he had with locals. One guide openly praised Kim Jong Un, describing him as the "source of strength" for the country, while another jokingly claimed that COVID-19 had been sent by air balloon from South Korea. Although much of the population is indoctrinated, Jaggard sensed a level of curiosity about the outside world, as his guides asked about American culture and international politics. These interactions left him with more questions than answers, as he tried to navigate the complexity of life in a tightly controlled regime. Despite the challenges of filming in such a restrictive environment, Jaggard's trip highlighted the stark contrast between the North Korean people and their government. While the regime pushes a strict narrative, Jaggard found that the people he met were warm, curious, and eager for human connection. He concluded that, "The people of North Korea are different from the government," a sentiment that he hopes resonates with his audience. Ultimately, Jaggard's visit, which may have contributed to the shutdown of tourism shortly after, was a reminder that behind the authoritarian state, there is a nuanced reality. His experience serves as a rare glimpse into a country that remains largely hidden from the outside world.

Kim Kardashian graduates after six years in law program, proving slow and steady wins race

Kim Kardashian has officially graduated from California's Law Office Study Program after six years of dedicated study, marking a key step in her pursuit of becoming a licensed attorney. The reality TV star celebrated the achievement with a private backyard ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and mentors. The law apprenticeship program typically takes four years to complete, but Kim extended her studies to six years due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, she remained committed throughout the extended timeline. The 44-year-old took to Instagram Stories to share moments from the event, where she wore a beige graduation cap and received praise from those who supported her journey. Attorney Jessica Jackson, one of Kim's mentors, called the graduation 'one of the most inspiring legal journeys we've ever seen,' highlighting Kim's commitment of '18 hours a week, 48 weeks a year for six years straight.' Jackson noted this was especially impressive given Kim's responsibilities, including raising four children, managing businesses, filming television shows, and advocating in courtrooms. -Instagram. Another mentor at the ceremony lauded Kardashian for her efforts in clemency advocacy, reuniting families, and bringing national attention to flaws in the legal system. CNN political commentator Van Jones also gave a speech, celebrating her accomplishments. Kardashian's family was present, including her son Psalm, who was pictured enjoying ice cream in a suit. -Instagram. Kim began her legal apprenticeship in 2018 without holding a college degree. She passed the challenging First-Year Law Students Examination—known as the 'baby bar'—in 2021 after three attempts. She described the experience as difficult but rewarding, writing on social media, 'it feels so so sooooo good to be here and on my way to achieving my goals.' -X. Her legal journey was shaped in part by a traumatic event: the 2016 armed robbery in Paris where masked men stole millions in jewelry from her hotel suite. Recently, Kim testified in court about the ordeal, which she said altered her life. The suspects face life sentences, and Kim expressed hope that the trial would provide closure. This graduation brings Kim Kardashian closer to following in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., who was a prominent attorney.
