Katatonia Part Ways with Founding Guitarist Anders Nyström After 34 Years
Long-running Swedish extreme metal act Katatonia have parted ways with founding guitarist Anders Nyström after 34 years.
Singer-guitarist Jonas Renkse, the other founding member of Katatonia, announced the news via Instagram on Monday (March 17th), citing 'creative preferences' and 'personal schedules' as reasons for the split:
'Anders Nyström and I are going our separate ways. A decision not taken lightly, but for everyone to thrive and move forward with their own creative preferences as well as personal schedules this has become the realistic option. Anders and I started the band in 1991 and his impact on the band's trademark sound is undeniable. As bleak as this sounds, and is, it's further evidence of life getting in the way of our preferred plans. I wish Anders all the best for the future.'
Nyström then confirmed his exit from the band late Monday (March 17th), posting on Instagram: 'Sad but true. The time has come for me to confirm that the roads ahead Jonas [Renkse] and I have chosen for both Katatonia and ourselves have grown too wide and far apart, and as a result, our long-term collaboration has drawn to a close.'
The guitarist's statement delved into the specifics of the aforementioned creative differences, expressing that he wanted to re-explore Katatonia's early/middle discography — apparently a point of contention with Renkse.
'Needless to say, I still love ALL our albums,' wrote Nyström, 'but with the early stuff being neglected for so many years, a feeling of having 'unfinished business' with a style that goes far back to our roots has just grown stronger and stronger. I can't help feeling adamant that songs from our early-mid discography deserve to be equally acknowledged and likewise targeted for our live show repertoire, the essential medium where the past should always be alive! Unfortunately, that door has been kept shut and left everything we did pre-millennium in a void.'
Renkse and Nyström formed Katatonia in 1991, but had actually been working on music together since 1987. Their early releases explored a primitive black metal style. The duo eventually filled out the band's lineup for what would become Katatonia's debut album, 1993's Dance of December Souls, which is considered a melodic black metal classic.
The band went on to release a string of lauded extreme metal albums before shifting to a dominantly alternative/gothic metal sound in the following decades — the most recent album being 2023's Sky Void of Stars.

What you're about to read is an issue of the Only Good Internet newsletter, which brings you the funniest, weirdest, and most interesting content from around the internet, no doomscrolling required. Subscribe here and you'll get the web's best stuff in your email inbox every week! Welcome to Only Good Internet, where — like a sommelier for internet content — I pair you with memes. I want to talk to you about bad jokes. Specifically, BadJokesByJeff. It's basically a Tumblr rite of passage at this point for one of Jeff's jokes to show up on your dash, and for you to respond, 'change your URL, Jeff.' Because, you see, Jeff's jokes are sometimes not bad at all. IDK, maybe you've heard that one before, but I haven't! I didn't see it coming! Here's another: Full disclosure, I'm pretty sure this one was a tweet first, but it seems like Jeff expanded it a bit and brought it away from that terrible site, so I'll allow it. One more for the road: Anyway, 'Jeff, change your URL' has become a meme in and of itself, to the point where the blog actually put out a poll to ask if they should actually do it: You can follow badjokesbyjeff on Tumblr or Instagram. Laugh, groan, shake your head disapprovingly, enjoy. …That Usain Bolt's last name is his REAL NAME, and the founder of Tito's Vodka's last name is Beveridge: William Headline? Bill Headline??? Are you serious??? Apparently, William's last name was originally Swedish and was Americanized, but still. The expression on this cat's face is what really sells this for me: She's SO MAD. Shout-out to Josiah B. for sending in this week's cursed image! That is indeed a brick of soap of considerable size. I'm all for creative branding, but something about combining the word 'ass' with 'soap' just lathers me the wrong way… I always like to finish every week with something that I MUST share with you, because I can't get it out of my head. How Girl Golden Retriever Puppy Stands Out Among Boy Litter Melts Hearts
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A video showcasing a female puppy standing out among her energetic littermates quickly went viral with 21.9 million views on Instagram. Like children, puppies generally display certain characteristics based on their sex. Non-neutered males tend to be more dominant, territorial, playful and active than females, according to Pedigree. While females are easier to housebreak or train, they sometimes can be more demanding of attention. And as a breeder based in Arizona, Sheryl Bowden has seen her fair share of dog personalities. She told Newsweek that male puppies usually have a more rambunctious side, while the girls, in her experience, can be stubborn. The "goofy" and silliness of boy pups shone through in her August 7 Instagram video posted to the account @maizey_daze. In the clip, four male golden retriever puppies were roughhousing. One tried pulling the pup's sweatshirt off. Another grabbed a tail with his mouth. The puppy energy was in full swing. However, the only female dog in the litter, Birdie, captured people's hearts as she wanted nothing to do with the puppy chaos her brothers started. Screenshots from an August 7 Instagram video of a dog breeder highlighting the different personalities between female and male puppies. She was in heaven getting the attention and a moment away from the madhouse of her littermates. "Don't get me wrong, the boys can be wrestling and she will fly out of nowhere and tackle whoever is on top!" Bowden said. "They are so fun to raise and watch their personalities!!" Plus, Bowden knows the puppy energy does not last 24/7. She said whenever she holds them, they calm down. The puppies love to be touched and given attention. What Do the Comments Say? Instagram users flooded the comment section, as they fell in love with the "princess of the pack" who they believe is the secret mastermind behind the puppies. "She's going to lead them all," one viewer commented, while a second echoed: "She says, 'I'm gonna be the boss around here.'" Others joked that the saying "boys will be boys" rings true even in the puppy world. One comment reads: "So boys are wild in every species." Thinking on the bright side, an Instagram user pointed out: "She got 4 brothers that would protect her at all costs though." Why Is Kirsten Storms' Maxie Leaving General Hospital?
Wondering why General Hospital fans are talking about Maxie's future and possible leaving? A recent storyline twist and off-screen update have fueled speculation about what's next for the longtime character. The developments have raised questions about her fate in Port Charles and how her journey might unfold. Here's what has been revealed so far about Maxie's direction and the uncertainty surrounding her next chapter. Here's why Kirsten Storms' Maxie is leaving General Hospital Kirsten Storms is leaving General Hospital as Maxie Jones after two decades on the show. Her on-screen collapse begins her exit, which Parade confirmed stems from her decision to take a leave of absence. Storms moved to Nashville with her daughter, Harper, whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Barash. Storms directly addressed her departure in an Instagram post, telling fans, 'I'm very excited to be making Tennessee my home! I can't wait to return to GH, once Harper and I are settled in our new town.' She also confirmed to her followers that she asked executive producer Frank Valentini for time away and expressed gratitude to ABC and the writers for supporting her move. According to Storms, 'The week before last week, I had my final taping day for the year. It's possible I will be back in December, maybe November.' While the actress confirmed her break, she made clear that it is not a permanent exit. Storms emphasized that she intends to return, stating that General Hospital was accommodating, explaining, 'GH did not do that. Which was kind of amazing.' In the meantime, Nicole Paggi briefly stepped into the role for the July episodes before Storms wrapped up filming in August. Maxie's exit begins with her sudden collapse, coinciding with Ryan Paevey's return to the set. Paevey has not revealed his role, and with Storms' finished filming before his start, their characters will not overlap on-screen. Fans have speculated about the reason for Maxie's collapse, with theories ranging from her heart condition to possible poisoning. Regardless of the on-screen explanation, Storms has confirmed she will remain off-screen for the rest of 2025 while she and her daughter adjust to their new life in Tennessee.
