Where former Colts' DE Dwight Freeney lands on American Century Championship leaderboard
Entering the final round on Sunday of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, where does former Indianapolis Colts' defensive end Dwight Freeney find himself on the leaderboard?
After Round 1 on Friday, Freeney found himself tied for 26th after posting +8 points. While typically, one wants to be negative, or under par, in golf, this event uses a different format.
In this tournament, players are awarded--or subtracted points--based on what they score on a hole. For example, an eagle is worth six points, a birdie three points, and a par is one point. A double-bogey or worse, meanwhile, is minus two points off your score.

After the second round, Freeney still finds himself at +8 points overall, which puts him in a tie for 39th going into the final day on Sunday.
Leading the way in first place are Joe Pavelski and Taylor Twellman at +44 points. On the flip side, Dylan Dreyer is last at -43 points.
In 11 seasons with the Colts, Freeney played in 163 games, forced 44 fumbles, totaled 113 tackles for loss, and had 107.5 sacks. Freeney is a Hall of Famer, a Super Bowl champion, a seven-time Pro Bowler, and a three-time All-Pro.

NFC East Over/Under Win Total Odds, Picks: Can Eagles Avoid SB Hangover?
Jalen Hurts and the reigning Super Bowl champs unsurprisingly boast the highest win total (11.5) in the NFC East entering the 2025 campaign. Jalen Hurts and the reigning Super Bowl champs unsurprisingly boast the highest win total (11.5) in the NFC East entering the 2025 campaign. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Newsweek's 2025 NFL betting preview continues today with a look at one of the top divisions in 2024. After the NFC East was home to both NFC Championship Game participants, including Super Bowl 59 winner Philadelphia, both the Eagles and Commanders have high expectations for the upcoming season. In Dallas, will the return of a (presumably) healthy Dak Prescott mean a bounce-back season for a team that won 12 regular-season games apiece in 2021, 2022 and 2023 before slipping to 7-10 last year? The Giants could have one of the league's top pass-rushing units, especially if heavy Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite Abdul Carter -- who is currently shorter than 3-to-1 to win the award -- lives up to the hype. Overall expectations in the Big Apple are low, however, following 6-11 and 3-14 finishes the last two years. 2025 NFC East Win Total Betting Odds DK FD bet365 Eagles 11.5 (o+110; u-130) 11.5 (o+105; u-130) 11.5 (o+100; u-130) Commanders 9.5 (o-125; u+105) 9.5 (o-110; u-110) 9.5 (o-130; u+100) Cowboys 7.5 (o-160; u+135) 7.5 (o-125; u+105) 7.5 (o-140; u+110) Giants 5.5 (o+100; u-120) 5.5 (o+110; u-130) 5.5 (o+110; u-140) At first glance, I'm tempted to lean toward the over on all four of these teams. Philly has the offensive firepower to overcome significant defensive losses, the Commanders won 12 (!) games with a rookie under center last year, the Cowboys have always been solid with Prescott at the helm, and the Giants have a front four that might singlehandedly put them on the cusp of at least five or six wins. Best Philadelphia Eagles 2025 Win Total Bet Let's start with the case against the Eagles, since the reasons to like a team that blew out Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the Super Bowl are pretty obvious. This defense will look a lot different this season. Philly lost Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Bryce Huff and Brandon Graham up front, and it also must replace two starters in the secondary in cornerback Darius Slay and CJ Gardner-Johnson. But thanks to how well Philadelphia has done in the draft in recent years, the cupboard for DC Vic Fangio is far from bare. DT Jalen Carter alone should ensure the D-line holds up, and the Eagles retained first-team All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun, while Nakobe Dean and Nolan Smith give Philly two more young studs at linebacker. Unless corners Cooper Dejean and Quinyon Mitchell struggle in Year 2 after both finished in top 4 in DROY voting last year, this D should be solid at worst. Offensively, Philly boasts an unbelievable ceiling thanks to the star power of WR AJ Brown and RB Saquon Barkley, but just as importantly, there are no glaring weaknesses, as four of five starters on the O-line return. The Eagles are once again breaking in a new offensive coordinator after losing Kellen Moore to the Saints, but the promotion of passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo should keep that unit on track. Chalky as it is, I don't see how Philly finishes worse than 12-5 (remember, last year's squad not only went 14-3, but did so despite a 2-2 start). Best bet: Over 11.5 Wins (+110 at DraftKings) -- 2 units Best Washington Commanders 2025 Win Total Bet The Commanders immediately struck me as a good bet to win at least 10 games when this market opened back in April. If Washington is unable to resolve its contract dispute with star WR Terry McLaurin, who requested a trade on Thursday, the passing game could obviously look a lot different than it did a year ago. Still, I think on betting on Washington to go over or under 9.5 wins comes down to whether you're buying Jayden Daniels building on his incredible rookie year or taking a step back. For me, it's a no-brainer to trust Daniels to be even better in Year 2, especially if the Washington defense can take a step forward after struggling last postseason. There's no guarantee this defense will be significantly better, as the D-line remains a question mark and the secondary will miss safety Jeremy Chinn, who finished second on the team in tackles last year. If not for a brutal schedule (like everyone else in this division, the Commanders face everyone in the NFC North and the AFC West), I'd happily stick with what I wrote in April about this team winning 10 games. The McLaurin situation is concerning, though, so I'd recommend either staying away from this market until that is resolved or going conservative and taking Washington Over 8.5 Wins on the alt market. Best bet: (Alt) Over 8.5 Wins (-180 at FD) -- 0.5 units Best Dallas Cowboys 2025 Win Total Bet Prescott, 32, struggled a year ago, even before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 9, completing less than 65 percent of his passes for just the second time in his nine-year career. Dallas had one of the least well-rounded WR units in the league last year, which makes it's easy to imagine Prescott bouncing back if George Pickens can open things up for superstar CeeDee Lamb (the latter was the only Dallas receiver with over 50 catches last year). Defensively, all bets are off if the Cowboys fail to keep game-wrecking linebacker Micah Parsons happy and on the field for the final year of his rookie deal. As of August 1, it would be an understatement to say that things are not looking good on that front. According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Jon Machota, Parsons is currently "considering drastic measures" including a trade request. So, I'd recommend steering clear of this market until that situation gets resolved. Best bet*: stay away *I realize "stay away" isn't actually a bet, but it's the smartest approach at the moment. Best New York Giants 2025 Win Total Bet We'll find out where the Giants stand in this division right away, as they open the season with a Week 1 trip to Washington followed by a road date vs. Dallas in Week 2. New York's overall strength of schedule is No. 1, according to Sports Betting Dime's Matt McEwan, and the home slate is particularly difficult early on. The Giants' first five opponents in the Meadowlands are the Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, 49ers and Packers. That will put pressure, to say the least, on this team to get some early road wins. The schedule and the QB sitution are undeniable red flags for New York, but I expect the loaded front seven featuring Abdul Carter, All-Pro DT Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux to keep games close. If so, I like WR Malik Nabers and the offense to make just enough plays to help this team win at least six games. Best bet: Over 5.5 wins (+110 at FD, bet365) -- 1 unit Newsweek may earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through any links in this article. Micah Parsons Considering Cowboys Trade Request With Relationship 'Deteriorated'
Everything is just fine in Dallas. Dak Prescott is back from a season-ending hamstring injury, the Cowboys have a new offensive playmaker in wide receiver George Pickens, and Micah Parsons might be plotting to burn down Jerry Jones' mansion. Hyperbole, sure, but the Cowboys' relationship with Parsons – who seeks an extension with his rookie deal expiring after the 2025 NFL season – "has deteriorated to the point" where Parsons "is considering drastic measures, which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team," according to a Friday morning report from The Athletic. The report also states that the Cowboys believed they were close to a deal with Parsons earlier this year, as he negotiated directly with Jones. That said, Parsons considered those to be loose contract talks and had his agent step in to proceed with such conversations, with Jones then refusing to speak to the star defensive end's agent. The two sides are "far apart" on a deal. Parsons is present in Dallas but not participating in practices. As for potential Parsons contract models, defensive end Myles Garrett (four-year, $160 million deal with the Cleveland Browns) and linebacker T.J. Watt (three-year, $123 million extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers) signed new extensions with their respective teams this offseason that reset the pass-rusher market. Last season, Parsons totaled 12.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and 43 combined tackles in 13 regular-season games; he missed four weeks due to an ankle injury. Parsons ranked fourth among edge defenders with a 91.6 pass-rush grade, sixth with a 90.0 overall grade and 72nd with a 65.5 run-defense grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Parsons, a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, has registered 12-plus sacks in each of his four seasons in the NFL. The Cowboys had two prolonged contract negotiations last offseason with Prescott and wide receiver and four-time Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb. Dallas ultimately extended Lamb (four-year, $136 million deal) in the week following their 2024 preseason finale and extended Prescott (four-year, $240 million deal) on the morning of Week 1 of the regular season. Dallas opens its 2025 preseason on the road against the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 9 and opens the regular season on the road against the NFC East-rival and defending Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4. Eagles 12 most intriguing players: No. 1, Jalen Carter's ceiling − in salary, on the field
PHILADELPHIA − No doubt, Jalen Carter knows all about T.J. Watt's new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and is eagerly anticipating the megadeal that Cowboys star Micah Parsons will likely get at some point. Watt recently became the highest-paid non-quarterback in average annual salary at $41 million when he signed a three-year deal worth as much as $123 million. Watt joined the Browns' Myles Garrett in the $40 million AAV club. Carter, of course, is a defensive tackle. And currently, the Chiefs' Chris Jones is the highest paid at the position, with an AAV of $31.8 million. NAKOBE DEAN'S KNEE: Eagles Nakobe Dean details key factor on when he'll return from knee injury, status for camp PHILLIES' BIG PLANS: Did Phillies owner hint at team's MLB trade deadline plans − and Kyle Schwarber future? It's safe to assume that Carter's next contract will fall somewhere in between Watt's and Jones' deals, if not exceed them. And that could happen as soon as next offseason. Carter, the Eagles' first-round pick (No. 9 overall) in the 2023 draft, is that good as he enters his third NFL season. In many ways, Carter is the glue that holds the Eagles' defensive line together, not to mention the entire defense. That's why Carter is No. 1 on our list of 12 most intriguing Eagles heading into the start of training camp on July 22. We're counting them down each weekday from No. 12 to No. 1. The series began July 7 and will culminate with the start of camp. At the very least, the Eagles will have to decide by next May whether to pick up the fifth-year option on Carter's rookie contract, which could be worth as much as $15 million for 2027. But the Eagles will try to sign Carter to a long-term deal instead. They have had a history of doing this with their rising young stars well before they hit free agency. They did this in April when they signed center Cam Jurgens to an extension averaging $17 million per season, making him the second-highest paid center in the NFL. The year before, the Eagles did this with left guard Landon Dickerson with an average annual salary of $21 million, which at the time made him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. They also signed wide receiver DeVonta Smith to an average deal of $25 million. And the Eagles have already started planning for Carter's pending second contract. Many of their offseason moves after winning the Super Bowl were in part designed to create enough space for Carter, not to mention second contracts for edge rusher Nolan Smith (also eligible after this season), and defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean when they're eligible. It's easy to see why the Eagles think so highly of Carter. Carter played more than 90% of the snaps in 8 of the 19 games, including playoffs, that he played in last season. Compare that to Eagles legend Fletcher Cox, who played 90% of the snaps in a game just six times in 12 seasons. Don't expect Carter's workload to decrease this season. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, for example, pointed to Carter's gave-saving sack of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford near the end of the divisional playoff game, which the Eagles won 28-22. "In Jalen's case, the two plays he had at the end of the Rams game, which everybody has alluded to many times, those were his 68th and 69th snaps in that game," Fangio said. Can he do that again? "He's still a young pup," Fangio said. That, in a sense, is the scary thing about Carter. He's just 24 years old, and he admitted that there are plenty of things he can still improve on. "Pretty much everything, because every game we play there's gonna be one mistake where I thought I was best at it, but it showed in film that some offensive line studied me and got me off that, making me look bad or whatever," Carter said. "You have to work on everything." That includes double teams, something Carter saw a lot of last season, and will no doubt continue to see going forward. That, of course, will mean one-on-ones for the Eagles' edge rushers, not to mention the defensive tackles next to Carter in Jordan Davis and/or Moro Ojomo and rookie Ty Robinson. None of that fazes Carter, who had 4.5 sacks, 45 QB pressures and 5 passes defensed while playing 80% of the snaps. Celebrate the Eagles' Super Bowl win with our new book Carter said he'll gladly play as much as Fangio wants him to. "I'm having fun out there," Carter said. "If I could play every down, I'd love it. But if I have to get out because I need a break or something, I know the next guy will step up for me." And if Carter does it well enough, well, he could end up with a pay day on the scale of Watt, Garrett and Parsons as soon as next spring. Not that Carter views the 2025 season that way. "Money's good and all that," Carter said. "But after we won that ring, you saw how (happy) we all looked. That's better than just one person getting paid."
