‘Baller' undrafted Bengals WR reacts to electric bid to make roster
The Cincinnati Bengals dominated in their second preseason game of the year. Cincinnati defeated Washington 31-17 in a game that featured plenty of fireworks. One Bengals rookie was the star of the show, hauling in two touchdowns and leading the team in receiving yards.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor heaped praise on rookie UDFA Mitchell Tinsley after his big game.
'Baller,' Taylor said of Tinsley after the game, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra. 'Yeah, he just works hard. He's become a guy that everybody really respects in the locker room. I don't know that I've ever heard him speak. Maybe someone can get him tonight. He just goes out there and just works, and we respect that. And again, he created the opportunities for himself. He's done enough in practice to where we wanted to put him in positions to be at the point of attack when he was in the game there, and he rewarded himself with touchdowns and catches and extending drives and someone that's reliable for the quarterbacks in August. So just proud of him. This is the last team he was with, if I'm not mistaken, so probably a neat situation for him to come back on this field and do what he just did.'
Tinsley finished the game with five receptions for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
He had more receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns than anyone else in the game.
Could Mitchell Tinsley make the Bengals' final roster after his big game?
Now the question becomes whether his strong performance was enough to earn a final roster spot.
Tinsley acknowledged that he had a good game. But he is not letting the roster decision cloud his judgment.
'It's a step in the right direction, but for me, I try not to focus on all that,' Tinsley said after the game. 'For me, I know I put a lot of work in in the offseason and I put a lot of work into my craft. Really, it all just came down to me coming out here and executing.'
Tinsley faces an uphill battle if he wants to make Cincinnati's initial 53-man roster.
Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are guaranteed to make the final roster. Andrei Iosivas and Jermaine Burton also feel like their jobs are safe. That puts Tinsley in competition with Charlie Jones, Isaiah Williams, and a host of other receivers.
Tinsley will give himself a chance with another strong performance.
Next up for the Bengals is their preseason finale against the Colts on August 23rd.

The buzz around the young quarterback continues to soar, as he continues to be stamped as one of the league's top up-and-coming talents. With his mix of speed and throwing ability, Daniels provided an instant boost to the Commanders' offense. He also proved he is capable of coming up big in the clutch, providing multiple memorable moments. Despite only being a rookie, he nearly led Washington to the Super Bowl. More Photo by/Getty Images Ahead of the 2025 season, the people at The Athletic decided to compile a "Top 25 under 25" list. Fresh off an impressive rookie season, Daniels nearly secured the top spot in these rankings. He ended up being slotted in at No. 3, trailing only Jalen Carter and Ja'Marr Chase. "The 2024 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year led a long-awaited revival in Washington last season by repeatedly delivering late-game heroics and confounding defenses with his arm and legs as Washington reached the NFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1991-92 season," wrote The Athletic's Mike Jones. Daniels was the top quarterback on this list, beating out the likes of CJ Stroud and Trevor Lawrence. Though they have more NFL experience under their belts, they haven't reached a similar level of success as the Commanders' rising star. Ryan Clark accuses Bengals of ‘wasting' Joe Burrow's career as preseason drama lingers
The Cincinnati Bengals are missing the mark. On Tuesday's edition of 'Get Up,' former Steelers safety and current ESPN NFL personality Ryan Clark said the Bengals are wasting Joe Burrow's prime years as the team enters another season with what is expected to be a horrific run defense. 'Absolutely,' Clsrk responded when host Mike Greenberg asked if he's concerned that the Bengals are 'wasting' Burrow's peak years. Advertisement 'If you watched that game (Monday) night and you think about, especially early on last season, we've watched people run for more miles against the Cincinnati Bengals than (ultra-marathon runner) David Goggins.' Despite re-signing star receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals have done little to improve their defense while being in a contract standoff with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson, who tallied 17 1/2 sacks last season while no other Bengal had more than five, is holding out of training camp while looking for a new contract. X, @GetUpESPN First-round draft picks Shemar Stewart also battled the team over his contract before finally coming to terms and practicing. The defense is so bad that Clark even added that Burrow played in that preseason game because he knows that this defense will not be able to hold opposing teams down for long and needs to prepare for a season filled with exorbitant production. Advertisement 3 Joe Burrow was an MVP candidate in 2024. Getty Images The Bengals also drew heat Monday for playing Burrow for three drives, which included him being sacked by a handful of defenders while he attempted to make a play. Advertisement 'When you watch this in the preseason, you have to be sick to your stomach,' Clark added. 'Because you know there's going to be some games where you sit in the post-game press conference, that you scored 35, 38, maybe 41, and you still catch an L.' Last year, Cincinnati allowed 25.5 points per game, 25th in the NFL Zac Taylor's group also lost five games in which they scored at least 27 points. Hendrickson is supposedly ready to sit out games if he has to, as recent negotiations appear to have gone nowhere. It is still possible that the Bengals could move him, which would only further deplete a defense already lacking talent. Hendrickson tallied 17 1/2 sacks in each of the last two seasons while leading what's mostly a poorly built unit around him. 3 trey Hendrickson has his heels dug in on a contract holdout. AP Burrow led the NFL in passing yards in 2024, throwing for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns with just nine interceptions for a 9-8 Bengals squad that missed the playoffs.
