First, we're celebrating Elfie from the Central Vermont Humane Society and Matilda from the North Country Animal League. While their adopters were shy about an adoption day photo, we certainly know how Elfie felt about the whole thing with that big ol' smile. Not to mention, Matilda found her 'Miss Honey' the same afternoon her Forever Home episode aired!
Lastly, a big fundraising event is now underway at the North Country Animal League. You can start submitting your pet's photos for a beer label competition. The winning photos will be put on Rock Art Brewery beer cans and will be revealed at NCAL's Open House event on June 7th. Last year, this event raised $40,000. Jacques Du Preez, the executive director at NCAL says, 'three pets will each receive their own beer label and we also plan on adding them to the wrap of our transport vehicle so a couple extra ways to show our appreciation for supporting the contest.'
You have until April 28th to share your photo. That's also the same day voting opens to the public. For just one dollar per vote, you can make your voice heard about who should win this beer label contest. The winning pets will also receive a professional photoshoot. All of the money raised from this event will go back to supporting the life-saving care and services NCAL offers to the communities they serve. You can head on over to the North Country Animal League's website for more information.

Snow Patrol frontman to perform home city gig with a difference

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody will perform one of his first major gigs as an author, in his home town this summer. The event discussing his new book, The Forest Is The Path, is expected to be one of the star attractions of this summer's Open House Festival in Bangor, Co Down. The annual festival includes almost 100 events throughout August, and is expected to attract about 50,000 people to the city, with Bangor Castle Walled Garden and the Court House on the seafront as the focal venues. Lightbody will be talking to Irish author and broadcaster Sinead Gleeson about his book The Forest Is The Path, which was published in March, in what has been billed as a 'very different and incredibly personal hometown appearance', on August 26-27. Among the other stars to appear at the Walled Garden are singers Lisa O'Neill and Mary Coughlan, folk duo Ye Vagabonds, and comedians Paddy Raff, Chris Kent and Neil Delamere. Events at the Court House include The Ocelots, twin brothers from Wexford now based in Germany, and a special festival performance by Northern Ireland Opera. Among the other author events scheduled, former Labour cabinet member Alan Johnson will talk about his new book, Harold Wilson, Chris Whitaker will be discussing his international best-selling novel All The Colours Of The Dark, and American writer Karen Hao will be talking about her new book Empire Of AI. Open House director Kieran Gilmore said the festival puts a spotlight on Bangor's creative talent. 'This year's festival has some of our finest local artists performing in iconic venues throughout the city,' he said. 'From an interview with Gary Lightbody about his new book, to a conversation between Declan Lawn, Bafta-winning writer of Blue Lights, and local author Colin Bateman, to an intimate launch of a new EP by King Cedar, we're bringing around 100 events across a whole range of art forms.' The Open House summer season gets under way on Friday July 4, with the annual Pickie to Pier swimming race, although the Seaside Revival Vintage Festival will not take place this year because of development work on the sea front. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday June 6 at

Fina Strazza went from 'Fear Street' to 'John Proctor.' Will she conquer the Tonys next?

Fina Strazza went from 'Fear Street' to 'John Proctor.' Will she conquer the Tonys next? Show Caption Hide Caption The 'Fear Street: Prom Queen' film left R.L. Stine asking one question Acclaimed author R.L. Stine chats with USA TODAY's Ralphie Aversa about the Netflix film adaptation of his book, "Fear Street: Prom Queen." Fans of Netflix's 'Fear Street' horror movies have good reason to tune into the Tony Awards on Sunday. Fina Strazza, who plays a villainous mean girl in the 1980s-set slasher film 'Fear Street: Prom Queen' (streaming now), snagged her first Tony nomination for actress in a featured role for 'John Proctor Is the Villain.' The Broadway show has seven nods going into the June 8 ceremony at Radio City Music Hall, including best play and lead actress for Sadie Sink. The 'Stranger Things' star also has ties to 'Fear Street' after appearing in two of the three movies in the 2021 film trilogy. Strazza, 19, is 'feeling good' but 'still in a little bit of a haze about the nominations,' she says over a recent video chat. 'Can't quite wrap my head around it still.' In the play, Strazza stars as Beth Powell, a devout, by-the-book overachiever at a rural Georgia high school circa 2018 in the wake of the #MeToo movement. She and her fellow students are studying 'The Crucible,' Arthur Miller's 1953 play about the Salem witch trials, and over the course of a narrative peppered with pop music references, the kids wrestle with the themes of the play, its connection to their own lives and how John Proctor probably wasn't the hero everyone thought he was. 'It's about these young teenage girls grappling with how to be young feminists in a community that they've never been taught how to be, and how to think critically and how to take up space when they've never really had that encouragement,' says Strazza, who had her Broadway breakthrough at 8 years old when she was the youngest actress to play the lead role in the musical 'Matilda.' For the past two years, 'there's not been a single day that I haven't thought about this play,' Strazza adds, and she sees firsthand how its story has affected young theatergoers. 'It's been really kind of heartbreaking but also empowering to see how relevant the story still is, even though it takes place seven years ago. We kind of all feel like we're still in the same place. And I feel that audiences have been leaving the theater every night with this kind of vigor and drive to keep up a fight in this world. It's been really meaningful to be a part of that.' Strazza's also enjoyed working with Sink, and those two go way back: Strazza starred with Sink's brother Mitchell in 'Matilda' and their families have been friends for years. 'I've always been very proud of her to see how much she's done,' Strazza says. 'I've been following in her footsteps a little bit with 'Fear Street' and now with this. I'm happy to be on this little path behind her. She's just the most grounded and sweetest person ever. I really enjoy being around her.'
