Retailers offering Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy A9+ for £0
This week's tech deals see Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy tablet drop to £0 in freebie deals - as well as £150 off Lenovo tablets
Anyone who's been looking for a tablet upgrade in time for summer travel, or to simply binge series on at home, an Apple iPad may be a top contender to look at this week. Not only for its renowned quality, but a standout deal can see shoppers get one model for free.
Virgin Media is still offering the 9th-generation Apple iPad for £0 to shoppers who upgrade their broadband. Anyone who locks into the £88.99 monthly cost will get the device for free. It's only available to Mega Volt package shoppers, who also receive Gig1 Fibre broadband, more than 230 TV channels, and an unlimited O2 Mobile SIM.
It's a huge freebie and worth considering for those in need of a broadband upgrade. However, its long-term contract and inclusions may not be needed for others, making the free £299 iPad hard to justify. So, we've scoured rival retailers for other tablet deals.
To rival Virgin Media's Apple deal is Samsung, as it hands out a freebie to Android users. Like the above broadband offer, it will require shoppers to buy another product, but it slashes the price of the Galaxy Tab A9+ to £0.
Shoppers who buy the £799 Galaxy S25 at Samsung can claim a Galaxy Tab A9+ tablet (worth £299) after their purchase. Dropping the price of the tablet to £0, with proof of purchase. Those not wanting to buy a mobile for the sake of a free tablet can find the A9+ model for less at Amazon, where it's now £159.54.

Product Description
The 9th Gen iPad, which is £0 at Virgin Media, was originally launched in 2021 and has a 10.2-inch screen, and is still compatible with Apple's pencil and smart keyboard. The processor has a relatively good speed for streaming, at-home working and day-to-day use but it's not the newest model around.
Shoppers on the lookout for this exact model can find refurbished versions at Amazon, ranging in price from £180 to £190 each. However as the 2021 model is no longer sold at Apple. The refurbished deals at Amazon are from third-party retailers called TechLike and MC-Distribution.
Alternatively, Sky Mobile offers a choice of newer Apple iPads and is attractive thanks to its cost-splitting plans. The newer iPad Pro 13" M4 (2024) is priced at £34 when spreading the cost. Also on offer at Sky, for a much cheaper £10.50 per month, is Apple's newest 2025 model.
The downside to Sky's deal is its lengthy 48-month contract, but the monthly rate is eye-catching for shoppers who want to split the price instead of paying Apple's £329 rate upfront. Not everyone will be in the market for a flagship Android or Apple device. If so, Currys' current Lenovo P12 discount has cut £150 off the price. Now £249.99 instead of £399, the model has a 3K screen, 12.7-inch display (so bigger than the free iPad size) and quality speakers and camera.

Police issue mosh pit warning ahead of Download festival in Leicestershire this weekend
Police are warning rock fans at this weekend's Download festival about the potential for accidental calls while in the mosh pit. Leicestershire Police issued an alert ahead of the event at Donington Park, which begins on Friday. Posting on Facebook, the force said, in previous years, they received "a rise of nearly 700 extra 999 calls" caused by energetic dancing at Download. "The tech assumed that people in mosh pits had been in a collision, causing 999 contacts and abandoned 999 calls," said the post. Police have blamed mobiles and wearable gadgets featuring technology which alerts emergency services when it suspects there has been an accident. The technology can inadvertently activate when hardcore rock, heavy metal, or punk fans are involved in aggressive styles of dancing - sometimes called "thrashing", "slam dancing" or "pogoing". Certain iPhone and Apple Watch models operate a "crash detection" feature - turned on by default - which is designed to identify a severe car crash and connect people to emergency services. Even if people are unaware that the feature has been activated, the device will call the emergency services automatically after a 30-second countdown. Some Android mobiles operate a similar service called "car crash detection". "All those calls had to be assessed, with three outbound call attempts completed to ensure there is no threat, risk or harm, taking our contact handlers away from answering true emergency calls," police added. They recommended switching on airplane mode or disabling emergency alerts on wearable tech, as well as answering any callbacks so officers know fans are safe. Some of the reactions to the post included "don't mosh too hard" and "be wary of the mosh pit". But another user commented: "Avoid false alarms and allow police to focus on crime." Headline acts at Download are Green Day on Friday, Sleep Tolken on Saturday and Korn on Sunday.
