Stray dogs attack kills 70-year-old man in Bengaluru, family says he was out for a walk: Report
According to the report, family members were jolted awake by disturbing noises and rushed outside to find a group of at least eight stray dogs attacking Seethappa. The elderly man sustained grievous injuries to his face, limbs, and torso, with large chunks of flesh torn off. Though he was immediately rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.

The Kodigehalli Police have taken up the case and filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR). Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and speaking to local residents to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the attack.

This incident comes amid rising concern over stray dog attacks across Karnataka. According to recent data released by the State Health Department under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the state has recorded a sharp 36% rise in dog bite cases in the first six months of 2025 — with 2.31 lakh bite cases and 19 rabies-related deaths reported between January and June. During the same period in 2024, there were 1.69 lakh bite cases and 18 deaths.

The growing menace has sparked widespread anxiety, especially after a recent viral video from Hubballi showed a three-year-old girl being viciously attacked by stray dogs on the street, further fuelling public outrage.

Hyderabad: Armed with a blue file that held bank statements for five years, actor Rana Daggubati appeared before the Enforcement Directorate's Hyderabad office in connection with the alleged online betting games promotion case Monday. The questioning at the Basheerbagh office lasted for nearly five hours. Soon after, the actor left the probe agency office, choosing not to make a statement or take any questions from the media. The actor, wearing dark glasses, said nothing as the car doors closed. Earlier, the probe agency, which investigates financial crimes, had issued a notice to the actor to appear before it on July 23. The 40-year-old actor, due to prior commitments of a shooting schedule at Tamil Nadu's Pollachi, had sought more time to appear before the Hyderabad Zonal ED office. Earlier this year, the Telangana police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against 29 celebrities and influencers, including popular figures like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Devarakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi for allegedly promoting illegal betting and gambling apps through their social media platforms. The complaint, filed on March 19, alleges a disturbing trend of celebrities and influencers promoting illegal gambling apps that violate the Public Gambling Act of 1867. Sources close to Rana Daggubati had told NDTV that a legal team had vetted the endorsement contract before he signed it. He also said Rana had only promoted skill-based games that the Supreme Court has said are legal, that too in regions where it is allowed, and his association had ended in 2017. Actor Vijay Devarakonda who appeared last week before the ED also sought to make the distinction between legal gaming apps and illegal betting apps, pointing out that the Indian cricket team, women's cricket, volleyball, kabaddi are all promoted by gaming apps that are legal, have a licence to operate, even pay GST. Complainant PM Phanindra Sarma, a 32-year-old businessman, had claimed that celebrities are allegedly accepting large sums of money to promote various betting platforms, which encourage users to gamble their hard-earned money. The petition emphasised that these apps and platforms are causing widespread financial harm, particularly among lower and middle-class families who are being lured into the false promise of easy money. The apps often rely on celebrities to build credibility, leading vulnerable individuals to invest substantial amounts of money, only to face financial ruin, claims the petitioner. The central agency filed its Enforcement Case Information Record (ECIRs) based on the FIRs and is looking at violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, in terms of tax violation, etc in sponsorship and promotion deals, revenue earned through digital advertising etc. Rana Daggubati is known for his roles in the movies like 'Baahubali' ', Baahubali 2', and 'Vettaiyan'.

Kerala Woman Dies By Suicide, Accuses Lover Of Harassment, Conversion
Kochi: The local police at Kothamangalam in Kerala have taken into custody Ramees from Paravoor in connection with the suicide of 23-year-old Sona Eldhose, a Teacher's Training Course student. The woman's mother on Monday said that her daughter, Sona, was in love with Ramees for a while, and they were compelling her to change her religion. 'She was locked up and beaten last week after she resisted their attempts to take her to Ponnani for converting her. They refused to heed her demand that she is willing to register marriage but not for conversion,' said the girl's mother. He faces charges including abetment of suicide and physical assault, after evidence emerged of alleged abuse and pressure to convert the woman. Sona was found hanging in her home on Saturday. Her death note, recovered by police on Sunday, accuses Ramees of physical and mental harassment, locking her in a room, and forcing her to convert before marriage. She also alleged that Ramees's family members and friends pressured her to change her religion, stating that marriage would only be possible after conversion and that she must live in his family home. Police say they have secured proof from WhatsApp chats showing Ramees responding 'go ahead' when Sona said she might take her own life. Investigators also claim to have evidence of Ramees assaulting her. His family members are likely to be named as co-accused. According to the note and statements from Sona's family, the relationship began during college and later turned abusive. The couple had discussed marriage, but Ramees's relatives allegedly insisted on religious conversion, warning that without it, he would be ostracised from the mosque. Sona initially agreed but delayed the process due to her father's recent death. Her brother alleged that despite Ramees's earlier arrest in an immoral trafficking case, Sona forgave him. Recently, Ramees allegedly took her to his home under the pretext of visiting a friend, confined her to a room, and assaulted her. He also allegedly prepared a vehicle to take her to Ponnani for conversion, but when she refused, he told her to die. Police have confirmed Ramees's employment as a temporary staff member at the Kochi Airport. The investigation is being led by Kothamangalam police, with the case upgraded from unnatural death to abetment of suicide following the recovery of the death note. Questioning of the accused is underway.
