Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller linked with shock move to one unlikely football club... and they are not based in the United States
The Germany international is the Bundesliga side's record appearance maker and currently sits third on their list of all-time scorers with a whopping 247 goals.
Since he chose to leave the German outfit, questions have revolved over his next move. Retirement talk has circulated while a move to join a Major League Soccer franchise had also been gathering a lot of steam.
In fact, Sky Sports Germany had claimed that Muller was set to imminently make a move to join the US side, Los Angeles FC, which is believed to be his favoured option.
The west coast outfit are, in fact, a sister club of Bayern Munich. Muller had reportedly already made up his mind on the move.
However, Vince Rugari of The Age, has thrown a shock new curveball into the equation, with the football reporter claiming that Sydney FC are also in talks to sign the legendary Munich forward.
The free agent, who has only ever played for Bayern, is seeking a fresh start at a new club, and could head Down Under to join The Sky Blues.
The report adds that Muller's representatives have been in conversations with the A-League outfit for several weeks.
The club is hoping to convince him to move down to Sydney, with Muller set to make a call on his next move in the coming week.
However, sources told Rugari that Muller 'had been impressed by the pitch made to him by Sydney FC'.
A key factor in convincing Muller to join the club would be two of his former team-mates. Douglas Costa and Alexander Baumjohann are both already working for the club, with Baumjohann employed as the team's head of player management.
Rugari claims Baumjohann is leading the chase to sign Muller.
Last season, Muller made 49 appearances for the German club across all competitions, while also returning eight goals and eight assists.
He still has plenty of gas left in the tank and could turn out for many top sides in Europe.
Muller enjoyed a hugely successful career with Bayern, winning 13 Bundesliga titles with the club and two Champions league titles.
Upon his departure from Bayern, Muller was coy over his next move, revealing that he tries not to think about his future too much.
'I'm very open-minded for everything that comes. I always try to focus on what is immediately next,' the World Cup winner explained.
'Now I'm a football player. I only think about preparing for training tomorrow. I try not to think too much about my future. When the day comes that I stop, I want to understand exactly what it is that I miss about football.'
It comes as Sydney coach Ufuk Talay has committed to spending two more seasons at the club.
While admitting that the club is 'transitioning' earlier this year, he opened up on the side's transfer strategy.
'The strategy has changed. We're blooding some youngsters, and the club's made some sales over the past two seasons – it's a business at the end of the day.
'You still want to be competitive, but at the same time blood some youth and make some sales of players.
'It's a bit of a balance and we're still going through that process while we're still trying to win trophies.'

Liverpool agree £65m deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich after forward requested to leave and was dropped for pre-season
Liverpool have agreed to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich in a £65million deal. Mail Sport understands the forward first requested to leave the club last summer and he will fly out from Tokyo in the next 24 hours to join up with his new team-mates. Colombian international Diaz has been a long-term target for the Bundesliga champions despite them seeing an initial bid worth £58.5m rebuffed. Negotiations resumed in recent days and a second official approach has now been accepted. Diaz, who arrived at Anfield for an initial £37m fee in January 2022, was dropped for the Reds' squad to play AC Milan in their latest pre-season friendly. Boss Arne Slot admitted his absence from the 4-2 defeat was directly linked to his uncertain future, saying: 'In Lucho's situation it was, yeah. 'There are a lot of rumours around it lately and I cannot go into that. But he is training really well with us and we have decided, for now, not to play him yet. More to follow.

Luis Diaz to LEAVE Liverpool tour as Bayern Munich agree £65million deal to bolster Reds' Alexander Isak kitty
LIVERPOOL are set to bank an extra £65million for their Alexander Isak fund after Bayern Munich agreed to sign Luis Diaz. The Reds winger told Arne Slot earlier this summer that he wanted to explore a move away from Anfield. 3 Diaz, 28, is in Asia with Liverpool on their pre-season tour but was left out of the squad for their friendly against AC Milan. Slot later confirmed that the forward had been left out due to speculation over his future. And now Liverpool have given Diaz permission to leave the tour after agreeing a deal with Bayern. The Premier League champion's twice failed in attempts to convince Diaz into signing a new deal. The sale, with Darwin Nunez also expected to leave this summer, will help raise funds for the Premier League champions to continue their incredible spending spree. Liverpool have already spent £201m since winning the title, including a club-record £100m deal for Florian Wirtz, who was a target for Bayern. Despite also landing French striker Hugo Ekitike, an audacious move for Isak cannot be ruled out. The £120m-rated Swede has been left out of Newcastle's pre-season tour to Singapore having also been sent home from their training camp in Scotland. Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, has informed the Magpies of his desire to move this summer. However, Eddie Howe and the Saudi Arabian owners are digging their heels in and insist their star man is not for sale. Liverpool, though, are considering testing that resolve with a bid and will be in a stronger position with Diaz sold. Vincent Kompany wanted to add a forward following Thomas Muller's departure and Jamal Musiala's horrific leg and ankle break during the Club World Cup. Diaz was a target for Barcelona before they landed Marcus Rashford, while the German giants had already seen one bid rejected. While Liverpool are still exploring forward options, Slot has insisted he is happy with his three centre-backs after Jarrell Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds hold an interest in Marc Guehi but have not lodged a formal approach for the Crystal Palace captain. Slot said: 'I don't think we have a concern at centre-back. "In terms of depth? I think Ryan [Gravenberch] showed against Milan that he can play in that position. "He did it last season as well. Although we all know we favour him as a No 6. Wata [Endo] can play there. Joe Gomez only has a minor injury.' 3
