Amarnath Yatra 2025: Nearly 70,000 Devotees Completed Yatra In 4 Days

India.com07-07-2025
New Delhi: Nearly 70,000 devotees performed the Amarnath Yatra in the last four days as another batch of 8,605 pilgrims left for the Kashmir Valley on Monday, an official said.
According to officials, nearly 70,000 people have performed the ongoing Shri Amarnath ji Yata so far since it started on July 3. Of these 21,512 Yatris had 'Darshan' inside the holy cave shrine on Sunday.
Officials said that another batch of 8,605 Yatris left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the Kashmir Valley in two escorted convoys on Monday.
'The first escorted convoy is carrying 3,486 pilgrims to north Kashmir Baltal base camp while the second escorted convoy is carrying 5,119 Yatris to south Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp,' officials said.
Officials of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) that manages the affairs of the annual pilgrimage said that in addition to the number of Yatris coming to the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, many Yatris are reporting directly at Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) for on spot registration to join the Yatra.
Two pilgrims have died of natural causes since the Yatra started this year.
Authorities have left no stone unturned in providing a multi-tier cover to this year's Amarnath Yatra, as this takes place after the cowardly attack of April 22 in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians after segregating them on the basis of faith in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
An additional 180 companies of CAPFs have been brought in to augment the existing strength of the army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and the local police.
All the transit camps en route to the two base camps and the entire route from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu to the cave shrine are secured by the security forces.
Locals have extended complete cooperation to this year's Amarnath Yatra as they have always done in the past. To send out a powerful signal that Kashmiris were deeply shocked by the Pahalgam terror attack, locals were the first to welcome the first batch of Yatris with garlands and placards as the pilgrims crossed the Navyug Tunnel to enter the Kashmir Valley at Qazigund.
On Sunday, locals served cold drinks and pure drinking water to Yatris returning from Baltal base camp in north Kashmir Ganderbal district. To reciprocate the noble gesture, Yatris, without hesitation, accepted the hospitality of the locals and expressed gratitude for the love shown by Kashmiris for the Yatris.
This year, the Yatra started on July 3 and will end after 38 days on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
Yatris approach the holy cave shrine situated 3888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas either from the traditional Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route.
Those using the Pahalgam route have to pass through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni to reach the cave shrine, covering a distance of 46 km on foot.
This trek takes a pilgrim four days to reach the cave shrine.
Those using the shorter Baltal route have to trek 14 km to reach the cave shrine and return to the base camp the same day after performing the Yatra.
For security reasons, no helicopter services are available to Yatris this year.
The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon.
Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.
Shri Amarnath ji Yatra is one of the holiest religious pilgrimages for the devotees, as legend says Lord Shiva narrated the secrets of eternal life and immortality to Mata Parvati inside this cave.
Two pigeons accidentally happened to be inside the cave when the eternal secrets were being narrated by Lord Shiva.
Traditionally, even to this day, a pair of mountain pigeons flies out of the cave shrine when the annual Yatra begins.

Before 2017, Bareilly witnessed riots every few months; today, Nath Corridor defines its identity: CM Yogi

Bareilly, August 6, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Wednesday, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore in Nath Nagri, Bareilly. Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister launched a sharp critique of the opposition's politics of appeasement. He said that certain anti-social elements had conspired to tarnish the image of the Kanwar Yatra, but their attempts failed in the face of public awareness and proactive administrative efforts. Today, the Yatra stands as a symbol of social unity. Highlighting Bareilly's transformation, the Chief Minister said that lakhs of devotees now participate in Jalabhishek at the Nath Corridor, which is emerging as the new identity of the city. During the program, CM Yogi also handed over appointment letters to over 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela, and distributed certificates and tablets to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. Referring to the Kanwar Yatra, he added, "Some individuals had tried to insult public sentiments and defame the tradition, but the alertness of society and the state's strong law-and-order machinery foiled such efforts." 'The double-engine BJP government is committed to blending heritage with development. Bareilly, which once suffered frequent communal riots before 2017, is now gaining fame for the Nath Corridor and spiritual tourism,' he stated. The Chief Minister emphasized that government schemes are now reaching every section of society without any discrimination based on caste, religion, or region. 'This is the new India, marching ahead with the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. Bareilly is progressing rapidly, and the double-engine government is striving to ensure happiness, prosperity, and inclusive development,' he said. CM Yogi informed that Bareilly has been gifted 545 development projects worth ₹2,264 crore. This includes the inauguration of 222 projects worth ₹1,258 crore and the laying of the foundation stone for 322 projects worth ₹1,004 crore. Key projects include the Nath Corridor, flood protection measures, bridges, bypass roads, road widening works, a Unani Medical College, rural drinking water supply schemes, as well as projects under the Power Department and Municipal Corporation. The Nath Corridor project will see the development of iconic temples such as Alakhnath, Tripathinath, Gopeshwarnath, and Pashupatinath into prominent centers of spiritual tourism. During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over appointment letters to more than 6,000 youth selected through the Rozgaar Mela. Encouraging young individuals to take advantage of the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Yojana, he highlighted that under the scheme, eligible youth are being provided with collateral-free, interest-free loans—starting from ₹5 lakh, increasing to ₹7.5 lakh upon timely repayment, and further up to ₹10 lakh. Taking a swipe at past regimes, CM Yogi Adityanath said that before 2017, government jobs were handed out like personal favours through 'uncle-nephew' networks and family ties. In sharp contrast, he noted, the current government has provided 8.5 lakh government jobs in the last eight years through a transparent, merit-based system — with over 12,000 posts secured by young women. He appealed to public representatives to honor the selected youth and their families publicly to inspire others and foster a culture of aspiration. 'Earlier, jobs were limited to a select family. Today, opportunities are available to every deserving youth, without any discrimination,' he asserted. Highlighting the law-and-order improvements, CM Yogi said, 'The state is now mafia-free and fear-free. Earlier, mafias used to be appointed district-wise; today, every district is being recognized for its progress—with initiatives like One District One Medical College and One District One Product.' He emphasized that the double-engine BJP government is integrating heritage with modern development. 'Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure is being transformed through enhanced connectivity—via expressways, highways, metro projects, airports, and flyovers,' he noted. Describing Bareilly as the sacred land of Lord Parshvanath, CM Yogi said that UP is the 'janmabhoomi and tapobhoomi' (birthplace and the place of enlightenment) of Lord Ram, Krishna, Buddha, and Jain Tirthankaras. 'We are preserving this spiritual heritage and integrating it with world-class infrastructure so that UP emerges as a leader not only spiritually and culturally but also economically.' The Chief Minister inaugurated new projects, including the Ramganga Flood Protection, widening of Sanda Pal Marg, Unani Medical College, Municipal Corporation Office, Power Department Building, and Gas Conservation Projects, and also laid the foundation stone for several others. CM Yogi also informed that, with central support, tourism development projects have been sanctioned for sites like Ramnagar Fort and Ahichhatra Parshvanath Digambar Jain Temple. Reiterating the commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, he emphasized that development benefits are being delivered to all citizens without any discrimination. Referring to his meeting earlier that morning with public representatives of Bareilly division, he said that the priorities for future projects are being shaped by their suggestions. These initiatives will accelerate development in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, and Budaun. As a special gesture for women, CM Yogi announced free bus travel across the state on the occasion of Rakshabandhan (August 8, 9, and 10). This facility will be available in both city transport and UPSRTC buses, and will apply to women and their accompanying co-passenger. Underscoring the importance of civic responsibility, he also announced a special cleanliness campaign to be held before Independence Day and Janmashtami. Several prominent leaders and public representatives were present at the program, including Cabinet Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Dharmpal Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) JPS Rathore, Arun Kumar Saxena, Minister of State Sanjay Singh Gangwar, MP Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar, District Panchayat President Rashmi Patel, Mayor Umesh Gautam, MLA Sanjeev Agarwal, Prof. Shyam Bihari Lal, Dr. Raghavendra Sharma, Dr. DC Verma, Dr. MP Arya, Legislative Council Member Dr. Jaipal Singh, Bahoran Lal Maurya, Hari Singh Dhillon, Kunwar Maharaj Singh.

Omar Abdullah Urges Parties To Push For J-K Statehood Restoration Bill In Parliament

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reached out to major political party heads with substantial representation in Parliament, urging them to support the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and press the issue in the monsoon session of Parliament. The Chief Minister Abdullah wrote to the presidents of 42 political parties, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, urging them to push for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir during the ongoing Parliament session. In a letter, dated July 29, Chief Minister Abdullah emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir statehood issue transcends regional politics and is vital for upholding the Indian Constitution and democratic values. Chief Minister Abdullah described the 2019 downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a Union Territory as a 'profound and unsettling' precedent, warning that treating statehood as a discretionary favor undermines the federal structure of India. Chief Minister Abdullah highlighted in the letter the unanimous resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly nine months prior, which he presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured progress. However, Chief Minister Abdullah expressed disappointment over the lack of a clear timeline or visible progress. In the letter, Chief Minister Abdullah also noted the high voter turnout in recent elections and public condemnation of terrorism, such as the Pahalgam attack, as opportunities to reinforce national unity through statehood restoration. Chief Minister Abdullah framed the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood as a 'course correction' essential for justice and constitutional rights, not a concession. Chief Minister Abdullah told reporters that the promise of restoring statehood has been made multiple times, during public meetings, in Parliament, and even before the Supreme Court. Expressing his concern over the prolonged delay in restoring statehood, Chief Minister Abdullah called for the issue of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood to be prioritized in the current parliamentary session. "The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear this matter on August 8, and it is imperative that statehood is granted as soon as possible," CM Abdullah said. If the government fails to act, it is the court's responsibility to ensure that its promise is fulfilled, CM Abdullah said. Chief Minister Abdullah also congratulated the forces and administration for the successful completion of the Amarnath Yatra, with around 400,000 pilgrims traversing the Baltal and Pahalgam routes this year. He expressed optimism about attracting tourists from across the country to the region once again. CM Abdullah On Uttarakhand Flash Flood Speaking on the Uttarakhand flash flood, Chief Minister Abdullah said, "We have seen the same at Ramban. It's alarming the way the weather is behaving." Recent disaster incidents in Ramban and Uttarakhand are examples of adverse weather patterns, deforestation, and reckless mountain cutting. Chief Minister Abdullah said the changing weather patterns are a big risk for mountainous regions like Jammu and Kashmir, and there is an urgent need to take measures to mitigate these threats. In a message of solidarity, Chief Minister Abdullah extended support to the people and government of Uttarakhand following the recent distressing incident
