Northop Hall and Chirk to get cricket campaigns underway

Leader Live25-04-2025

It's the start of the Liverpool Competition for Hall tomorrow with their home clash versus Ainsdale. It has been a busy off-season at the Smithy Lane club, with a number of big acquisitions making the move to strengthen the ranks.
Reflecting on the preparations, captain Ben Slater said: 'We have recruited a lot of players again.
'Jac Kennedy is back from Northern. He's decided to come back to Northop Hall.
'We have got Paul Jenkins (pictured) from Colwyn Bay. He has over 1,200 wickets and it's a great addition.'
The capture of the pair is a real coup as Northop Hall look to hit the ground running.
Kennedy has spent the past three seasons at Northern, where he plundered 2,800 runs at the top of the order.
Previous captain Carwyn Johnson and Owen Skillander, from Hawarden Park, are other additions to the squad.
'We will take each game as it comes. We'll enjoy it as much as possible,' stressed Slater. 'We will see how it goes.'
Hall won't be taking tomorrow's opponents lightly and Slater added: 'Ainsdale have always been a strong side and they still are.
'We will play the game as it comes to us. We are hoping to get off to a winning start in the league.'
Northop Hall Seconds pay a visit to Ainsdale Seconds tomorrow.
Liam Walker is the new skipper at the helm as Chirk open their Shropshire League campaign tomorrow.
Walker, who has taken over the captaincy from Luke Gardner, will lead the team out for the Division One encounter at home to Wellington Seconds.
Last time out, Chirk claimed eight victories as they finished up eighth in Division One and sights will be set higher for the coming months.
In Division Seven, Chirk Seconds, still under the captaincy of Dale Randall, will begin their season away to Albrighton Seconds.
It's a busy weekend for Chester Boughton Hall.
In the Cheshire County League tomorrow, Hall visit Neston, while Jack Williams' side have a cup clash against Eccleshall on Sunday.

Interest has been building in midfield pair Mohamed Diomande and Nicolas Raskin, but the new boss has made his stance clear. In his Ibrox unveiling he said, simply: "We have to try and keep our best players." His former boss, and fellow countryman, Philippe Clement has tipped the midfielder to go onto big things. Clement said: "I think he's ready. I'm convinced Nico would fit perfectly in the Premier League. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed "I'm not saying he would be in a top six team now. But just below that, so he can calmly adapt to the level." Rangers are also looking to strengthen their squad, with the rumour mill already swirling on that front too. It is reported that the Gers are looking to swoop in for England international, Conor Coady to shore up the back line, with Robin Propper set to return to his homeland. Israeli forward Dor Turgeman is also linked with the Ibrox side, with the 21-year-old impressing with 20 goals for Maccabi Tel Aviv this season. I am enjoying my rugby – Leeds winger Ryan Hall, 37, signs new one-year contract

The 37-year-old, who passed the landmark of 500 career games in March, will now stay at AMT Headingley until at least the end of the 2026 season. Hall is Super League's record tryscorer with 260 and has spent the majority of his career with the Rhinos. 'I have always said if I feel I can still do a job for the team then I would like to continue playing,' Hall said. 'This is currently my 19th season and it would be great to play a 20th season. 'I have spoken to players who have retired and they always say that you'll know when your time has come but I am enjoying my rugby at the moment and being part of this Leeds Rhinos squad. 'We have got a lot we still want to achieve in 2025 but I am also looking forward to seeing where this squad can go over the next 18 months.' Hall made his Rhinos debut in 2007 and has enjoyed a glittering career with the club, with successes including six Grand Finals wins and two Challenge Cups. The England international rejoined Leeds this season after four years at Hull KR. He also had a spell with Sydney Roosters earlier in his career.
