Leader Live25-04-2025
It's the start of the Liverpool Competition for Hall tomorrow with their home clash versus Ainsdale. It has been a busy off-season at the Smithy Lane club, with a number of big acquisitions making the move to strengthen the ranks.
Reflecting on the preparations, captain Ben Slater said: 'We have recruited a lot of players again.
'Jac Kennedy is back from Northern. He's decided to come back to Northop Hall.
'We have got Paul Jenkins (pictured) from Colwyn Bay. He has over 1,200 wickets and it's a great addition.'
The capture of the pair is a real coup as Northop Hall look to hit the ground running.
Kennedy has spent the past three seasons at Northern, where he plundered 2,800 runs at the top of the order.
Previous captain Carwyn Johnson and Owen Skillander, from Hawarden Park, are other additions to the squad.
'We will take each game as it comes. We'll enjoy it as much as possible,' stressed Slater. 'We will see how it goes.'
Hall won't be taking tomorrow's opponents lightly and Slater added: 'Ainsdale have always been a strong side and they still are.
'We will play the game as it comes to us. We are hoping to get off to a winning start in the league.'
Northop Hall Seconds pay a visit to Ainsdale Seconds tomorrow.
Liam Walker is the new skipper at the helm as Chirk open their Shropshire League campaign tomorrow.
Walker, who has taken over the captaincy from Luke Gardner, will lead the team out for the Division One encounter at home to Wellington Seconds.
Last time out, Chirk claimed eight victories as they finished up eighth in Division One and sights will be set higher for the coming months.
In Division Seven, Chirk Seconds, still under the captaincy of Dale Randall, will begin their season away to Albrighton Seconds.
It's a busy weekend for Chester Boughton Hall.
In the Cheshire County League tomorrow, Hall visit Neston, while Jack Williams' side have a cup clash against Eccleshall on Sunday.

Chelsea failed with £30million player-plus-cash swap offer to West Ham for new Tottenham star Muhammed Kudus

Chelsea offered Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, whom they valued at around £30million, in addition to a proposed £20million fee for Kudus. West Ham rejected the offer, valuing Dewsbury-Hall at £20m, which meant both clubs never came close to agreeing on a fee. Sources say that personal terms with Kudus was never an issue as Chelsea were one of the clubs that had come close to bringing him to the Premier League in 2023 before he joined West Ham from Ajax. Both West Ham and Kudus solemnly accepted that it was best to part ways given the fee and fact that he was never going to get the chance to play on the right hand side of attack as that spot was reserved only for club captain Jarrod Bowen. Chelsea would also eventually sell Dewsbury-Hall to Everton for a fee closer to their £30million valuation. Kudus, 25, has had a stellar start to life as a Spurs player, providing two brilliant assists on his official debut to help Spurs to a 3-0 win against Burnley at the weekend. Tour Championship field of 30 finalized after Rickie Fowler misses out

August 17 - OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Akshay Bhatia received the 30th and final spot in the Tour Championship field after late blunders by Michael Kim and Rickie Fowler on Sunday at the BMW Championship. The FedEx Cup playoff field was trimmed from 50 to 30 following the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club, won by Scottie Scheffler. Kim and Fowler were the first two players on the wrong side of the cut line, though both had their chances throughout the final round. Only one golfer player his way into the top 30 from the outside this week: Englishman Harry Hall, whose sixth-place finish propelled him from No. 45 to No. 26. That came at the expense of Lucas Glover, whose 10-over-par week dropped him from 30th to 36th. Hall pitched in for birdie at the difficult par-3 17th hole -- a move that Scheffler pulled off soon after on his way to victory. "I've been hitting that chip shot on the practice chipping green all week, like the same spot warming up every day with a 54 (wedge) into the grain on an upslope," Hall said. "As soon as I saw the lie, I'm like, I've been doing this all week." It's the first time the 28-year-old advanced to the Tour Championship. "Yeah, massive. Really happy," Hall said. "Can't wait to play in the FedEx Cup next week and hopefully keep continuing to play well." All 30 players will begin the Tour Championship at even par, and the winner after 72 holes will claim the FedEx Cup. It's a change from recent years after the PGA Tour employed a staggered format that allowed the No. 1 player in the points standings to begin the Tour Championship at 10 under, No. 2 to start at 8 under and so on. Bhatia began the week 29th in FedEx Cup points and finished in 30th, and his journey there didn't lack drama. On Saturday, he shot a round of 66 that included a hole-out eagle and a hole-in-one at No. 17. Without that ace, it is more than likely that Bhatia wouldn't have finished high enough to earn the points necessary to advance to Atlanta. But on Sunday, he put himself in a bind by bogeying four of his final seven holes in a round of 72. He had to wait for the afternoon rounds to finish and see what Hall, Kim and Fowler did. Fowler was 4 under through 10 holes and 10 under for the tournament, within striking distance of the lead and a near-certainty to finish in the top 30. After a bogey-birdie-bogey run, Fowler overshot the 15th green and couldn't get his third shot all the way up the slope to the green, eventually leading to a double bogey. Fowler was aiming to climb into the top 30 after moving from 64th to 48th in points at last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship. He tied for seventh at 7 under, while Kim bogeyed two of his final five holes and placed 10th at 6 under. "I started to feel better and better as the summer went on," Fowler said. "Played a lot. I was getting worn down, but I was ready to keep on going." The field of 30 at the Tour Championship, Aug. 21-24 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta: 1. Scottie Scheffler 2. Rory McIlroy 3. J.J. Spaun 4. Justin Rose 5. Tommy Fleetwood 6. Ben Griffin 7. Russell Henley 8. Sepp Straka 9. Robert MacIntyre 10. Maverick McNealy 11. Harris English 12. Justin Thomas 13. Cameron Young 14. Ludvig Aberg 15. Andrew Novak 16. Keegan Bradley 17. Sam Burns 18. Brian Harman 19. Corey Conners 20. Patrick Cantlay 21. Collin Morikawa 22. Viktor Hovland 23. Hideki Matsuyama 24. Shane Lowry 25. Nick Taylor 26. Harry Hall 27. Jacob Bridgeman 28. Sungjae Im 29. Chris Gotterup 30. Akshay Bhatia --Adam Zielonka, Field Level Media

East Kilbride Pirates sides reach national finals but now need your help

The club are crowdfunding to help the team achieve their dream The East Kilbride Pirates are celebrating a double achievement, with both their U16 contact and U17 flag squads earning places at National Finals. ‌ The U16s swept their Scottish conference season with a perfect 8–0 record, securing the top seed for the Northern playoff in Edinburgh. ‌ Despite blustery conditions, they beat Manchester Titans 17–6 and Coventry Phoenix 34–8 to reach the U16 Britbowl Championship at Sheffield Hallam University on Saturday 30 August, where they will meet Kent Exiles in the semi-finals. ‌ The Pirates boast strong pedigree at this level, having won national titles in 2016 and 2018. Meanwhile, the Hamilton Buccaneers U17 flag team – representing the Pirates in their first year of the BAFA Youth Flag Football League in Scotland – qualified as a third-place wildcard for the U17 National Finals at Platt Lane, Manchester, on Sunday 14 September. The club is now actively fundraising to support travel, accommodation, and equipment costs for both squads. They have launched a Crowdfunder campaign and also welcome direct donations or sponsorship to help get the players to the finals. Club Chair Amanda McDonald said: 'We're incredibly proud of both our young teams. ‌ 'Our U16s have had a perfect season and we hope they can take this one step further to a British Championship final. 'Both teams and their coaches have worked really hard to get here, and the whole club is behind them. 'It's especially impressive that our Hamilton Buccaneers U17s, our newest team, have reached the finals in their very first season. ‌ 'We're asking for local community support to help cover costs so our players can focus on performing at their best.' The Pirates have a fundraising target of £2,800 and Amanda added: 'With rising costs across the board, player subs only cover in-season expenses. To keep fees affordable and avoid passing extra costs onto families (who are already paying for accommodation), we're fundraising to cover finals travel and equipment expenses. ‌ 'Every penny raised will help our young athletes represent the Pirates and Scotland with pride. 'And if we're lucky enough to raise more than we need, the extra will go towards another vital requirement - replacing worn out U19 team's helmets to keep players safe in future seasons. The Pirates continue to welcome new players, particularly for their U16 squad (ages 13–16).
