Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta retained illegally only for executing crimes: Babulal Marandi
RANCHI: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi on Friday questioned the state government's decision to retain DGP Anurag Gupta despite the expiry of his service period. Marandi claimed that the DGP, whose official tenure ended on April 20, poses a 'direct threat' to democratic norms and individual security by continuing to serve.
Talking to the media persons at the BJP state headquarters in Ranchi, Marandi said, 'Despite the fact that the service period of DGP Anurag Gupta expired on April 30, Hemant Soren has been retaining him on his post only to execute crimes in the state. Who will be responsible if the DGP kills someone as he could not be suspended as his service period has already expired.'
Marandi further stated that he feared that he might get killed by someone sent by the DGP.
'Even I am afraid of making visits in the state…. who knows, I may also be attacked by someone sent by the DGP. Who will be responsible for it,' said Marandi.
It is really surprising that despite the service period of DGP has ended, he has been retained on the post; such instance has never been witnessed any of the states in the country, he added.
Marandi also accused the state government of shielding the DGP, despite the Centre's refusal to extend his term.

India, U.S. trade talks extended as deadline looms for interim deal, sources say
Trade talks between Indian and U.S. officials have been extended into next week as both sides seek consensus on tariff cuts in the farming and auto sectors, aiming to finalise an interim deal before a July 9 deadline, government sources said. A U.S. delegation led by senior officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) held two days of discussions in the national capital with trade officials headed by chief negotiator Rajesh Agrawal, the sources said. Negotiators, who had initially aimed to wrap up talks by Friday, will now continue discussions on Monday and Tuesday to resolve outstanding differences, a second official said. U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed in February to conclude a bilateral trade pact by fall 2025 and more than double trade to $500 billion by 2030. India is opposing U.S. demands to open up its agricultural and dairy markets, another Indian official said, citing the impact on millions of poor farmers who cannot compete with heavily subsidised American products. Indian officials have also made it clear New Delhi could pursue its complaint at the World Trade Organisation against the U.S. tariff hikes on steel and aluminium, while aiming to work out a bilateral agreement, the source added.

Bengaluru stampede: Sidda's political secretary sacked
Bengaluru: The political secretary of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, K Govindraju, has been sacked, and the state intelligence department head, Hemant Nimbalkar, has been transferred over the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives. Govindraju is also the head of the state Olympic association and the key person who pressured the Chief Minister to hold the RCB victory event at Vidhana Soudha.
