Developing a first-round quarterback is a race against time. The Washington Commanders won that race in 2024, with Jayden Daniels blossoming into a star. The Chicago Bears, despite Caleb Williams' flashes, are now playing catch-up, overhauling the coaching staff in an attempt to optimize their top pick.

There is still time for Williams to justify his draft capital and become a franchise quarterback. But if he isn't the guy after Year 2, some serious questions must be asked. Those same questions are being posed to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson.
A top-five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson is among the most physically talented players on the planet. But a shoulder injury cut his rookie year short, and he didn't take a step forward in his second season, infuriating coaches with poor misses underneath and an untenable 47.7 percent completion percentage.
Subsequently, the Colts brought in Daniel Jones as insurance. The coaching staff is feeling the heat, and another season lost to Richardson's struggles could end the regime's tenure.
Richardson entered the year as the favorite to start, given his talent, draft capital, and the need for Indianapolis to get any sort of return on its biggest investment. However, he recently went down with another shoulder injury, scratching him for minicamp.

As such, the former New York Giants quarterback could win the Colts' starting job instead of Richardson, especially with the benefit of minicamp and a portion of starting reps throughout the summer. Kevin Clark elaborated on that possibility on ESPN's 'NFL Live.'
'Yeah, you don't give Daniel Jones $14 million unless he's in a competition, all right? That's just the way quarterback salaries work in this league,' Clark said. 'He has thrown, Anthony Richardson, 348 passes in the NFL. In his first two years, that is the second-lowest of any top-10 pick in the last 20 years. … So he needs to play more football.'
Jones is getting paid serious money for a backup quarterback. Even if that's where his true talent resides, it's a nod toward the expectation that he'll start multiple games. That's a safe bet because of Richardson's injury history, but it also makes Jones a failsafe if the young quarterback struggles.
'I've never seen anybody more destined to be in the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback competition than Anthony Richardson because I'm looking at this and I'm seeing a training camp where Daniel Jones will probably start with the ones,' Clark said. 'There's job preservation now going on in Indianapolis with Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard. They're going to want to get that seven, eight, nine wins in order to keep their job.'

No one is arguing that Jones is more talented than Richardson, and few would muster that the former should start in Week 1. But if Jones can impact the run game while keeping the offense on schedule within structure, he gives the Colts stability Richardson hasn't shown through two seasons.
Unless Richardson takes a big step forward, the administration will be forced to choose between itself and its prized possession. Less than a year removed from being cut by the Giants, there's a real chance Jones starts once again in 2025.
New York will not play Indianapolis in 2025.

White Sox agree to 1-year contract with left-hander Tyler Alexander

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox added pitcher Tyler Alexander on Sunday, agreeing to a one-year contract with the veteran left-hander. Alexander, a Chicago native who turns 31 next month, was designated for assignment by Milwaukee last weekend. He cleared waivers and opted for free agency. Alexander went 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA and one save in 21 appearances for the Brewers this season, including four starts. He had 30 strikeouts and 12 walks over 36 1/3 innings. The White Sox also placed left-hander Jared Shuster on the 15-day injured list before their series finale against Kansas City. Shuster has a blister on his left hand. To make room for Alexander on the 40-man roster, left-hander Fraser Ellard was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Ellard has a left lat strain. Alexander is 20-33 with a 4.67 ERA in 164 career major league appearances, also playing for the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays. ___ AP MLB:

Jalen Ramsey trade rumors: Dolphins CB not expected at mandatory minicamp Show Caption Hide Caption Greg Olsen expresses excitement for upcoming Olympic flag football Former TE Greg Olsen is excited for some NFL players to showcase their skills in the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics and the debut of flag football. Sports Seriously The Miami Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey mutually agreed to seek a trade for the veteran cornerback a couple of weeks ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Ramsey remains on Miami's roster nearly two months later, but it appears the two parties are still planning to split before the 2025 season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Ramsey is not planning to attend the Dolphins' mandatory minicamp this week as the two parties "continue to work towards a trade." Miami's minicamp will run from June 10-12. If Ramsey does not attend, he will be subject to a fine for each day he misses. According to Spotrac, a player fine will be a maximum of $17,462 for the first day absent, $34,925 for the second day and $52,381 for missing a third day. The NFL's new CBA only allows fines to be forgiven on rookie deals, so it doesn't appear Miami will be able to waive any fines assessed to Ramsey. JALEN RAMSEY LANDING SPOTS: Rams, Raiders among best fits if Dolphins trade CB Ramsey has four years remaining on his contract with the Dolphins, as the three-year, $72.3 million extension he signed with the team on eve of the 2024 NFL season still hasn't kicked in yet. He is set to have a cap hit of just under $16.7 million this season while taking home $25.1 million in cash, per The Dolphins will be able to split any dead-cap hit – guaranteed money already paid to a player no longer on the team – associated with trading or releasing Ramsey over two seasons because the NFL's June 1 deadline has passed. Making it palatable for Miami to trade Ramsey, as it would take manageable dead-cap hits of roughly $10.75 million in 2025 and $18.5 million in 2026 while creating $5.9 million in space for the upcoming season. Releasing Ramsey would be more penal. The Dolphins would take on just under a $31 million dead-cap hit this season – which would cost them $14.3 million in present-day cap space – while still absorbing a dead-cap blow of $18.5 million next season. It isn't clear whether the Dolphins are willing to release Ramsey if they can't find a willing trade partner.

NASCAR secures fourth manufacturer as Ram enters Truck series in 2026

The NASCAR Truck Series field will feature four manufacturers for the first time in over a decade next season with Ram entering the category, joining Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota. This is a monumental decision that has been rumored for several months, but representatives from Ram and Stellantis finally confirmed it in a public unveiling at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday. Advertisement Speaking in a limited media availability that included NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer John Probst said of the highly anticipated return: 'We are excited to welcome Ram back to the Truck Series, starting in 2026. I know this is something that we've been talking about for a long time, and it's something we don't get to do very often. I think the last time we did this was over 20 years ago when Toyota entered our sport. So this is something that is a big moment for our entire sport and our existing competitors, potential new competitors, our OEMs. 'When we work with our existing OEMs, they have made it loud and clear that they would welcome a new OEM into our sport with open arms. They've been very helpful in that process with Ram and some of the other OEMs we continue to talk with. As we've said before, something we do on the regular is talk not just with our existing OEMs but potential new ones.' Probst continued, outlining the advantages of having an additional manufacturer join the NASCAR Truck Series. 'We're excited to see the depth in the Truck garage grow even deeper with the support of Dodge coming in there. And I think something that is very clear is that they are going to come in here and do this very differently to the recent trend in the Truck Series. We look for them to really energize our fan base, particularly in the Truck Series next year. 'From the NASCAR side, I think this is proof positive of the strength NASCAR has when it comes to attracting those blue chip brands to come in and participate in our sport. So, we are very excited to welcome them back to the NASCAR family, and hopefully that creates a lot of momentum for us to have some more exciting announcements regarding OEMs in the future.' Advertisement Dodge has quite the history in NASCAR, but the brand chose to pull its factory support from all three national divisions ahead of the 2013 season. In the Truck Series, Dodge won the manufacturer's title with Ram in 2001, 2003 and 2004. However, Sunday's announcement does not include a planned return to the Cup Series. At this time, the plans only involve Ram in the Truck Series. understands that they are aiming to have up to four to six entries on the grid for the 2026 season-opener. There is no finalized partnership with an existing team, but should the field size increase as a result of Ram's entry, NASCAR has indicated that they are willing to consider increasing the current field size in Trucks. The Ram 1500 concept race truck unveiled at Michigan resembles a production truck, adopting elements from the Ram Sport Truck lineup (Warlock, Rebel and RHO) with some aerodynamic adjustments to fit NASCAR competition. While the new Ram body must undergo wind tunnel testing, NASCAR hopes to have it approved by August 15th. None of the existing OEMs are planning to update their bodies for the 2026 season. The Truck Series also utilizes spec NT1 engines provided by Ilmor for all manufacturers, removing a hurdle that exists in the higher two divisions. NASCAR hasn't had a new manufacturer enter the sport since Toyota — roughly two decades ago. They also entered the Truck Series first in 2004, before expanding into the Cup Series for the 2007 season. To read more articles visit our website.
