Love Island star says he'd rather watch his children on very different TV show
Alex Bowen has opened up about the prospect of his future children following in his footsteps on Love Island.
Nearly 10 years have passed since Alex, a former scaffolder, made his bombshell entrance into the renowned villa in 2016.
He swiftly struck up a romance with Olivia Bowen, and the couple have since married and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child.
Reflecting on how he landed a spot on the second series of the ITV2 dating show, Alex disclosed: "I didn't apply for it. They messaged me when I was scaffolding one day."
He continued, recalling the moment that changed his life: "It was really raining and they'd messaged me a few times and I was thinking 'I'm going to message them back'.", reports OK!.
Alex shared the support he received at the time: "I went for my interview and I told my boss and he was kind of laughing it off and he said 'you'll always have your job back here'."
He also mentioned the encouragement from his loved ones: "I told my mum and friends and they said 'you've got to do it' so I just kind of went for it."
Interestingly, Alex admitted to his lack of prior knowledge about the show: "I didn't watch the show before going in so I went in there blind because it wasn't as big as it is now."
The love story between Alex and Olivia saw them finish as runners-up, and they exchanged vows in 2018, an event captured for their TLC series titled Olivia and Alex: Happily Ever After.
The pair welcomed their son Abel in 2022 and are now expecting a daughter this summer.
When quizzed about his reaction to the idea of his kids following in his and Olivia's reality TV footsteps, Alex Bowen humorously responded: "I dunno, can't they go on something else like The Chase or something? They can go on another programme."
He continued, acknowledging the dilemma: "It's a difficult one because I went on it so I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't allow them but then it depends on what the show will be like I guess."
For those not in the know, The Chase is a popular ITV quiz show where contestants team up to take on the Chaser, a formidable quiz expert, with the aim of winning a cash prize.

Dumped Love Island star Lauren Wood shows off her abs in black gym gear as she rubs shoulders with All Stars winner Gabby Allen at fitness event
Lauren Wood is already hanging out with Love Island alumni as she joined All Stars winner Gabby Allen to host a fitness event at Frame in Shoreditch on Saturday. The fitness influencer, 26, was brutally dumped from the island when new bombshell Angel arrived last week, with her partner Harrison Solomon, 22, voluntarily exiting the villa to be with her. And after just days out of the villa, she is already rubbing shoulders with Love Island legends as she stepped out alongside Gabby, 33. Lauren showed off her incredible figure in a black bralet and matching leggings, which she paired with Nike trainers, a cream tote bag and a simple bracelet. Alongside her, Gabby stepped out in figure-hugging blue gym shorts and a matching top, which she teamed with chunky beige trainers. Gabby no doubt had some words of wisdom about leaving the villa for Lauren, having featured on both the third series of Love Island and the All Stars edition. Lauren had a dramatic time on Love Island as she was in a love triangle with Harrison and Toni Laites, 24, which saw the footballer go back and forth between the two women, causing weeks of upset and conflict. Harrison's actions were condemned by viewers and, to his dismay, Women's Aid also criticised his actions by releasing a damning statement claiming his behaviour 'reinforces a culture that excuses and trivialises violence against women and girls.' However, after leaving the villa, Lauren clapped back at Women's Aid and declared the charity's statement was 'blown way out of proportion' as she insisted Harrison 'just made a mistake'. The dog walker told Cosmopolitan: 'Erm obviously, I think it was blown out of proportion like he's made a mistake but everyone makes mistakes. 'Like, he's gone about it the wrong way, he knows he has done wrong. I think it was just the timing of everything. 'It was literally just the timing of it but like he said, he isn't a bad person and everyone in the villa knows that.' MailOnline contacted Women's Aid for comment at the time. The Derby-born Islander had a relationship with US waitress Toni before embarking on a new romance with Lauren after meeting her in Casa Amor, with the couple becoming the first to have sex on the ITV2 show this series. But Harrison sparked outrage by convincing Toni, who was unaware he had slept with Lauren, to rekindle, leaving the distraught influencer in floods of tears. Shortly after their bedroom antics were exposed, Lauren was dumped from the villa and followed out the door by Harrison, who was quickly informed of Women's Aid's criticism, which left him dumbstruck. Fans on X shared their concern for Lauren's disagreement with Women's Aid and wrote: 'She forgive Harrison everything. Let's c once they have split up', 'setting women back omg', 'Standing up for someone is one thing, but brushing off a real issue as 'just a mistake' can do more harm than good', 'To think they were trying to support her as well. They literally made that statement to support her', 'Mind you Women's Aid were backing HER and were fuming about how she was treated and she's saying this? This girl has set women back 1000 years'. Harrison has also revealed what he really thought on the Women's Aid statement in an exclusive interview with MailOnline. He insisted the charity was wrong to call him out and claims the nature of the statement upset his family. He said: 'I have seen the backlash and it's hard to digest. I would disagree with a lot of it in terms of my respect for women, I do respect women. 'The worst has been from Women's Aid. I know myself and the girls on the show too, Toni said she knows I'm not a bad person, just went about situations in the wrong way, but the Women's Aid statement wasn't nice... it's not nice coming out of the villa to my mum upset by that so I would say that's been the hardest.' He added: 'To the women I have hurt, I am obviously sorry. I got it wrong and the back and forth between the two connections caused more harm than I ever intended. 'It wasn't ever an ego thing. I am not proud of how I handled things and I'm not going to make excuses. 'I just want to own it. If people can give me the space to grow from it, I will do everything I can to be better and that's the only thing I can do. 'There is no handbook for how to be on a show like Love Island. It's instincts and intentions. I got some of it right, but I know I got a lot of it wrong, and I know that now.' Harrison said the statement issued by Women's Aid, which commented on women being 'lied to, slut-shamed, and laughed at behind their backs' was particularly detrimental given the close relationship he shares with his mother and younger sister. However, the pair have overcome their turbulent time in the villa and have pursued things on the outside since Harrison's voluntary exit Harrison says leaving Love Island was a decision he made himself, telling MailOnline: 'I have seen a lot of this online and I feel like I am my own man and I'm going to make my own choices. 'I wouldn't have left one of the biggest TV shows in the UK if I didn't see a future with Lauren. It was a very emotional conversation because she was just dumped, she was acting on emotion, she just wanted to get across to me how much she was into me and wanted to give me a second chance. 'I understand where people are coming from, but Lauren found a proper connection, of course she wanted me to leave with her. Lauren didn't make the decision for me though I followed my heart.' American contestant Toni believed she had found The One in Harrison, given he was Miami based and in her age range, but after realising she deserved better than to be an option, she told him: 'You treated me like s*** repeatedly and I tried to walk away multiple times. Please don't treat Lauren this way.'

Shaughna Phillips reveals she was doing pregnancy tests 'seven times a day' as she candidly opens up about expecting baby number two
Shaughna Phillips revealed she got to a point where she was doing pregnancy tests 'seven times a day' while opening up about her very unexpected second pregnancy. The Love Island alum, 31, revealed in June she is expecting her second child with Billy Webb, who is also father to her two-year-old daughter, Lucia. Admitting she wasn't expecting to get pregnant so quickly on her 'first attempt', the TV star explained she 'kept Clear Blue in business' due to the very high amount of tests she ordered. 'Then it got to the point where, because I was testing so much, I would do one and not even think twice about it because I was doing them about seven times a day,' she told The Sun. Yet Shaughna was shocked to see the positive line when she found out she was pregnant and felt 'over the moon', calling herself 'very lucky'. She admitted she could barely believe it and decided to conduct yet another test to make sure the news was definite. 'But I just really didn't expect it'd be the first try. So, it was a shock. It was still a shock, even though I was trying,' 'The next day I did another and I thought right, I'm going to film this, and it came up with a stronger line, and even then I was still in shock.' The TV personality recently revealed how she planned her pregnancy with Billy, 29, after her ovulation period had coincided with him being home from prison. Currently held in a Category D prison, Billy has been allowed home visits for a few days each month. Speaking to the Mirror last month, Shaughna said: 'It was the first time that my ovulation window coincided with Billy being home. 'I was like, "You know what? Why not? Let's just see" - and literally, the next day, I said to Billy, "I think I'm pregnant".' Shaughna and Billy have been enjoying family days out over the past seven months while he has been on day release from an open prison. An insider said: 'Billy has been in a Category D prison, which means he has been able to spend a fair bit of time with Shaughna. Just earlier this month, Shaughna said she's hoping her jailed boyfriend will be released from prison before the arrival of her second child. Following the birth of Lucia in April 2023, Billy was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply 4.5kg of cocaine worth at least £360,000. And Shaughna has revealed he may be granted early release, possibly making it home in time for the birth. She told New! magazine: 'I know the date he's due to be home but, but I'm not saying anything it just because anything could happen. But hopefully [he] will be fully home before my baby is due.' The reality star said she's looking forward to having 'someone there' this time around, as Billy missed out on the early moments with Lucia - from cuddles to sleepless nights. 'He definitely wanted another one,' Shaughna shared. 'He didn't get that newborn experience with Lucia, and I think that's what he really wanted.'

Love Island's Yas and Jamie 'in big trouble' as fans 'work out' shock recoupling results
Love Island are reportedly set to air a shock recoupling on Sunday night with three couples switching up - and fans are left fearing for favourites Yasmin and Jamie Love Island fans think they've "worked out" which couples will switch-up in Sunday night's reported recoupling - which is set to send shockwaves through the villa. In the shock twist, it's been reported that three Love Island couples have decided to reshuffle their couples in a tense firepit confrontation. The recoupling comes days after the return of Megan and Blu. Conor and Shakira and Harry and Helena have recently called it quits - but fans are convinced a fan favourite couple are about to go their separate ways. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their predictions as the rumours spread, one fan penned: "I think Yas & Blu," while another agreed: "I feel like producers might let blu choose before jamie n blu will choose Yasmin, harry might choose shakira and conor will be with meg." A third worried fan commented: "I just hope hope Cach and Toni are coupled up and Blu stays away from Yas and Jamie," with a fourth writing: "If Megan and Blu pick first then she's gonna pick Connor and he might pick Yas unless he's been talking to Helena leaving Shakira stuck with Harry sighss can we free Shakira pls." Since arriving back into the villa, Blu has set his sights on Yas, and many believed the bombshell's head could be turning away from her Casa Amor beau, Jamie. During episodes this week, Yas was seen pulling Blu for a chat, telling him she needed to be considerate of Jamie's feelings. The two continued to engage in a flirty chat - but will they couple up? Although the pairings are being kept a secret for now, sources suggest the switch up stems directly from the fallout of the recent explosive Grafties ceremony, which left the villa divided after secret chats between the Islanders were laid bare on a huge cinema screen. A villa insider revealed: 'It's fair to say the fallout of the Grafties has had major repercussions. No one would've seen this recoupling coming a week ago." The source added to The Sun: "Usually Love Island gets a little predictable in the final days but this lot are still moving mad.' The show is now racing toward its finale, scheduled for Monday, August 4, which is just ten days away. The grand finale will follow a week of heightened drama and conflict among the remaining Islanders after Shakira revealed her harbouring feelings for Harry. With the final just over a week away, fans have been left wondering who will be taking home the £50,000 prize money. This year has seen a huge difference in previous years in the position of the couples. Usually, by this point fans would be seeing a number of solid couples - but this year, that just isn't the case. Meg and Dejon are the only couple who are currently boyfriend and girlfriend. Harry and Helena did become exclusive - but things went downhill when he was caught flirting with Shakira. So, who will be taking home the crown next week?
