One Nation, Two Laws: Digvijaya Singh's social media post kicks up political row
Captioned 'Ek Desh Do Kanoon' (One Nation, Two Laws), the post by the septuagenarian politician showed two pictures – one where the Kanwar Yatra is blocking the road and the other where a cop is seen kicking men offering namaz on the road.
The post pictorially questioned two sets of actions by authorities on the religious practices of different communities.
The post triggered angry reactions from the ruling BJP. Slamming the senior Congress leader over the post, the MP cabinet minister, Vishwas Sarang, termed Singh as 'Maulana Digvijaya Singh.'
'He only opposes Sanatan Dharma. He has not even spared the holy Kanwar Yatra. What else can be expected from a man (Singh) who has glorified anti-India Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, but questioned every operation of the Indian defence forces and never missed any opportunity to defame the Sanatan Dharma and Hindu sadhus. But mocking our festivals and holy Yatras through such social media posts will no longer be tolerated, he (Singh) needs to apologise,' Sarang said.

Fundamental lack of ideological coherence in the INDIA bloc, with many parties operating autonomously or in competition with each other, undermined the collective strength that it could have provided, and thus it had limited success, the Communist Party of India's draft political resolution, released ahead of its Congress scheduled for September 21-25, said. The 25th Congress of the CPI, which will be held in Chandigarh, coincides with the party's centenary. The 64-page draft political resolution was released in the party's headquarters in Delhi by general secretary D. Raja on Friday. The party also underlined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala against a CPI candidate as an avoidable stumbling block for deeper Opposition unity. The resolution said CPI played a significant role in bridging the ideological and political divide in the INDIA bloc by emphasising the need to defend constitutional values and resist the BJP's divisive politics. But the alliance was limited in its effectiveness. 'Seat-sharing negotiations were the most visible and a persistent point of contention. Many constituent parties, protective of their regional bases and leadership ambitions, engaged in prolonged and sometimes acrimonious bargaining,' the resolution said. This did not lend to a seamless and cohesive campaign. 'Perhaps most critically, the alliance grappled with a fundamental lack of ideological coherence,' the resolution said. The ideological inconsistency, the party said, made it challenging to present a unified policy agenda that could inspire widespread confidence beyond anti-BJP sentiment. CPI has suggested that the Opposition, especially the Congress, should learn lessons from this example. 'The Indian National Congress, being the largest constituent of the INDIA bloc and a pan-India political party, should maintain consistency in its positions on critical issues like secularism, federalism, and the direction of our economy. Ideological clarity in the current situation is a must,' it said.

Six Maoists killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur
Six Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday (July 18, 2025). A gunfight broke out in the afternoon in the forest of the Abujhmad region when joint teams of security forces were out on an anti-Maoist operation following inputs about the presence of ultras, State Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj said. Operation underway 'Multiple exchanges of fire between the security forces and Maoists occurred since the afternoon. So far, the bodies of six Maoists have been recovered from the encounter site along with AK-47/SLR rifles, other weapons, explosive material and daily use items,' he said. The operation is still underway, the officer added. Hailing security forces, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, his government has been marching ahead firmly towards fulfilling the resolve of making the country completely Maoist-free by March 31, 2026. 'In a major operation by security forces, six Naxalites have been neutralised so far in Abujhmad of Narayanpur district. I congratulate all the brave jawans of the security forces involved in the operation and salute their indomitable courage,' he said in a statement. 'The valour of the jawans has further strengthened our resolve of 'Naxal Mukt Chhattisgarh'. Under the leadership of PM Modi ji and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, we are moving forward firmly towards the accomplishment of the resolve of making the country completely Maoist-free by March 31, 2026,' the Chief Minister added. With the latest action, 221 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 204 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes districts of Bijapur, Bastar, Kanker, Konadagaon, Narayanpur, Sukma, and Dantewada. Notably, anti-Maoist operations have intensified in Chhattisgarh since the BJP was elected to power in the 2023 Assembly polls. More than 420 Maoist cadres, including senior functionaries, have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters during this period.
