Carry1st brings Call of Duty: Mobile tournament to Africa as championship qualifier
Carry1st, Africa's mobile game publisher, announced the return of its flagship Call of Duty: Mobile tournament as part of the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025.
With 200+ teams and over 1,000 players, this year's tournament is set to be the largest and most competitive yet. In a landmark move for African esports, the Carry1st Africa Cup has also been officially recognized by Activision as a qualifying tournament for the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025.
This unlocking a direct route for African talent to compete internationally at the biggest stage.
Building on the success of last year's event, which featured teams from five African regions, the 2025 edition will include players from seven African regions: Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, North Africa (Egypt & Morocco), Kenya, Uganda, and Francophone West Africa (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Senegal). This marks the second installment of this year's flagship Carry1st Africa Cup, highlighting the company's continued commitment to Africa's competitive gaming scene.
Carry1st's Call of Duty: Mobile tournament will run from May through to July, culminating in August with the LAN Grand Finals in Lagos, Nigeria, where a $15,000 prize pool will be up for grabs. The champions of the Carry1st Africa Cup will secure Africa's coveted slot in the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025 and compete for their share of an astounding $1 million prize pool on the global stage.
Regional qualifiers will run over the next three months to determine which teams advance to the LAN Grand Finals. With matches to be held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, each region will go through its own group stage, playoffs, and regional finals.

For the first time, our tournament has also been recognized by Activision as a qualifier for the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025, meaning that gamers aren't just playing for home pride; they're also competing for the chance to play against the world's best.'
As part of Carry1st's ongoing commitment to inclusivity for gamers across Africa, a special Wildcard Slot has also been introduced to the Qualifiers. This Wildcard will allow African teams from countries outside the seven primary qualifying regions, such as Mauritius and Tunisia, to enter, ensuring the chance for pan-African representation on the world stage.

Teams must consist of a minimum of five starting players and one substitute. The competition welcomes both amateur and professional gamers, provided participants are residents of the country they represent in the qualifiers. The regional qualification stages will run from May to July, culminating in the LAN Grand Finals in Lagos, Nigeria. Carry1st will also support travel arrangements for qualifying teams, ensuring that all teams can attend the finals.

Dakar 2026 Learning Academy Officially Launches With First Cohort of Young Professionals
NORTHAMPTON, MA / / June 6, 2025 / International Olympic Committee news The Dakar 2026 Learning Academy, a new flagship legacy initiative designed to recruit and train over 400 young professionals in Games delivery, was officially launched on Wednesday. The inauguration ceremony was held as part of the seventh visit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Dakar 2026 Coordination Commission (CoCom) to Senegal. The training programme marks a key step in building local expertise ahead of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and ensuring a strong human legacy from the first Olympic sports event on African soil. As part of the structured programme, participants receive 10 days of training delivered by the IOC, followed by five days of soft-skills development. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, they gain essential knowledge in Games planning, sports and event operations, and functional area responsibilities. This equips them with the skills to support the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee (YOGOC), while helping to build long-term event delivery capacity across Senegal and the continent. Once their training is complete, participants will join the YOGOC, applying their skills directly to the coordination and delivery of the Youth Olympic Games. In total, more than 400 young professionals will be trained through nine cohorts between now and September 2026. Over half of the Dakar 2026 workforce is expected to be composed of Learning Academy alumni, demonstrating the central role this initiative is playing in delivering the Games. The first cohort of 41 young professionals began their training in late April. They were selected from a pool of 1,800 applicants through a rigorous recruitment process. During their visit, the Coordination Commission members observed the first cohort in training at the Learning Academy, where the participants' enthusiasm and engagement were clearly on display. The delegation later joined the uplifting launch ceremony, which was marked by heartfelt messages, infectious enthusiasm and a strong sense of purpose from the participants. The initiative reflects the Organising Committee's strong focus on people management and long-term legacy. It also supports broader efforts to embed youth empowerment at the heart of Dakar 2026. IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry congratulated the trainees and praised the impact of the initiative and the spirit of the first cohort. "Next year, when we host the Youth Olympic Games, you are going to show the world what it is to be African, to feel African and to have that experience. FIFA lowers prices for Club World Cup opener as projected attendance looks weak
FIFA officials have lowered ticket prices for the Club World Cup's opening match — a contest between Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami and Al Ahly FC — over concerns that potentially scores of empty seats could overshadow the game. Tens of thousands of seats have yet to be sold to the game, according to The Athletic, which is set to take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 14 and would be the first official match of the 32-team tournament being held across the United States.
