LA Angels fans left furious as embarrassing mistake by staffer leads to entire stadium booing

Daily Mail13-07-2025
Angels fans were left furious on Saturday night by an embarrassing stadium mishap following an opponent's home run.
The Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez hit his second home run of the night in the fourth inning to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
And the solo shot was surprisingly followed by fireworks being let off at Angel Stadium - a celebration usually reserved for home players.
Fans loudly booed the mistake as Suarez rounded the bases, and had a ton of criticism followed online as well.
'Someone's getting fired,' one replied on X to The Athletic's Sam Blum.
'These idiots can't do anything right,' another said.

And a third joked: 'They are scheduling a Eugenio Suarez bobble head night at the moment. It'll sell some tickets.'
Despite the unfortunate moment, the Angels went on to win 10-5 as Mike Trout gave fans a home run to celebrate in the fifth inning.
The future Hall of Famer sent the ball 373 feet out of right-center field and posted four RBIs on the night.
The Angels are 47-48 this season as they seek their first playoff appearance since 2014.
Suarez, meanwhile, now has 31 home runs before the All-Star Break.
He was surprisingly snubbed from the Home Run Derby, though he was selected to represent the National League in the All-Star Game.
The game will take place on Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Riley Adams' homer lifts Nationals past Astros

July 29 - Riley Adams clubbed a two-out, tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning, and the visiting Washington Nationals rode a strong pitching performance to a 2-1 victory over the reeling Houston Astros on Monday. Adams socked his sixth homer this season to right field off Astros reliever Bryan King (3-2). His 348-foot shot set the table for relievers Luis Garcia and Jose Ferrer to preserve the win for reliever Konnor Pilkington (2-0). Kyle Finnegan recorded his 20th save with a perfect ninth. The Astros suffered their sixth consecutive loss at home. Two-out walks came back to bite both starting pitchers. Astros left-hander Framber Valdez delivered another exceptional performance and remained unbeaten over his last 14 starts. He etched his name in the franchise record books as well. Valdez struck out CJ Abrams and Josh Bell in the top of the first inning and stranded Paul DeJong at third base with a strikeout of Brady House to conclude the second. DeJong, who doubled with one out, was the first of three Nationals to record base hits against Valdez. Adams joined that list with his leadoff single in the third, but Valdez responded with strikeouts of Alex Call and Bell to close the inning following a one-out walk to Abrams. With his strikeout of Call, Valdez became the 10th pitcher in franchise history to record 1,000 career strikeouts. Starting with the Call strikeout, Valdez retired 10 consecutive batters. But with two outs in the sixth, Valdez walked Bell and Nathaniel Lowe followed with a double that rolled into the right-field corner and scored Bell from first base with the game-tying tally. Valdez matched his season high of 12 strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits and two walks over six innings. Nationals rookie right-hander Brad Lord carried a no-hit bid into the fifth inning and did not allow a baserunner until Yainer Diaz worked a two-out walk in that frame. Mauricio Dubon followed with a line-drive double to left that scored Diaz and gave the Astros a 1-0 lead. Houston snapped a streak of 18 consecutive games in which its opponent scored first. Lord limited the damage to a solo run in the fifth and departed with one out in the sixth. He allowed one hit and one walk while recording a pair of strikeouts. --Field Level Media

Phillies' Bryce Harper cursed at commissioner in heated clubhouse meeting, per report

Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper dropped an f-bomb on Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred in a heated confrontation last week about a potential salary cap, ESPN reported Monday. An irate Harper reportedly got in Manfred's face and told him to 'get the f– out of our clubhouse' if he wanted to discuss such a sensitive economic issue. Manfred replied that he was 'not going to get the f– out of here,' insisting it was important to talk about threats to the league's business and ways to grow the game, sources told ESPN. Other players tried to defuse the situation and Harper and Manfred shook hands after the meeting, but Harper would not answer calls from Manfred the next day, per the report. The meeting was also reported last week by The Bandwagon. 'It was pretty intense, definitely passionate,' Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos told ESPN. 'Both of 'em. The commissioner giving it back to Bryce and Bryce giving it back to the commissioner. That's Harp. He's been doing this since he was 15 years old. It's just another day. I wasn't surprised.' Harper, 32, is one of the game's most influential players as a two-time National League Most Valuable Player and an eight-time All-Star. The collective-bargaining agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association expires on 1 December, 2026. Many owners have pushed for a salary cap, as MLB is the only major men's sport in North America without one. Players are opposed, raising the specter of a potential work stoppage ahead of the 2027 season. 'Rob seems to be in a pretty desperate place on how important it is to get this salary cap because he's floating the word lockout two years in advance of our collective bargaining agreement (expiration),' Castellanos said. 'That's nothing to throw around. That's the same thing as me saying in a marriage, 'I think divorce is a possibility. It's probably going to happen.' You don't just say those things.' Harper and Manfred both declined comment to ESPN. The visit with the Phillies was one of 30 that Manfred holds annually in an effort to improve his relations with each team and its players.

Andre Pallante fires 7 scoreless innings as Cards rout Marlins

July 29 - Andre Pallante allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the visiting Miami Marlins 7-1 Monday night. Pallante (6-7) struck out four batters and walked one while enjoying quite a turnaround from his previous three starts, when he allowed 18 runs, 17 earned, on 25 hits in 15 2/3 innings. Masyn Winn went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and three RBIs for the Cardinals, who won for just the fourth time in 11 games since the All-Star break. Alec Burleson had a homer, two runs and two RBIs. Marlins starter Edward Cabrera (4-5) allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks in six innings. He fanned four. Burleson's homer put the Cardinals up 1-0 in the third inning. The 411-foot shot to center was his 14th long ball of the year. The Marlins threatened in the fourth inning when Jesus Sanchez walked with one out and advanced to second on a groundout. However, Pallante struck out Heriberto Hernandez to strand the runner. The Cardinals increased their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the inning. Yohel Pozo hit a double, then took third on a wild pitch and scored on catcher Agustin Ramirez's wild throw. Pallante held the Marlins without a hit until the sixth inning, when Graham Pauley led off with a single to right. Pauley advanced to third on two groundouts before Sanchez hit an inning-ending grounder back to Pallante. St. Louis' Victor Scott II hit a one-out double in the seventh inning. After Scott stole third base, Brendan Donovan and Ivan Herrera walked to load the bases. A catcher's interference call with Burleson batting forced in a run. Lake Bachar relieved Josh Simpson on the mound and fanned Willson Contreras before allowing Winn's double that cleared the bases thanks in part to an error by left fielder Hernandez. Jordan Walker's RBI double then increased the Cardinals' lead to 7-0. The Marlins finally got on the board in the ninth inning when Hernandez hit an RBI single against Matt Svanson. --Field Level Media
