Inter Milan line up move for Monaco winger Akliouche

Yahoo3 days ago
Inter Milan are considering a move to sign AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche this summer, according to L'Equipe.
With Ademola Lookman's deal hanging in the balance, the Nerazzurri have started looking for alternatives.
Akliouche has caught Inter's attention with his brilliant goal against the Italian giants in the recent friendly fixture.
The French forward is one of Europe's hottest properties, and the Ligue 1 giants are open to selling him due to the growing interest in the player.
However, the Principality Club have outlined a massive price tag worth €70 million for Akliouche and are not willing to budge from it.
Inter will face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, who have positioned themselves as a top candidate to get their hands on Akliouche.
Having filled their coffers with the sales of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Firmpong and Granit Xhaka, the German giants are ready to meet Akliouche's valuation.
The 23-year-old burst onto the scene after bagging seven goals and 12 assists last season, punctuated by incredible performances in the Champions League and Ligue 1.
Meanwhile, Inter haven't completely given up the pursuit of Lookman and are finding ways to reach an agreement with Atalanta.
They have seen an offer worth €45 million declined by La Dea, who are holding out for €50 million.
The Nigerian winger, for his part, hasn't joined Atalanta's training in an attempt to secure a move to San Siro.
Akliouche has all the tools to succeed at Inter, but his hefty valuation makes him far from an ideal target for the Serie A giants.
The Nerazzurri have shortlisted Manchester United's Jadon Sancho and Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku as alternative options to reinforce their attack.

France's Cernousek seizes lead at LPGA Portland Classic

Rising French talent Adela Cernousek conjured an eagle and six birdies in an eight-under-par 64 to break free atop a jammed leaderboard after the first round of the LPGA Portland Classic on Thursday. After teeing off on 10 and making two birdies in her first 10 holes, Cernousek roared up the leaderboard with birdies at four, five and six. The 22-year-old carded an eagle at the par-five seventh and added a birdie at the ninth to cap a sensational 64, admitting she let out "a little scream" when she almost holed out for an eagle at the ninth. "I thought it was going to go in," she said. "I'm super happy to hit the pin because it stayed pretty close and it was cool," she said. "I felt very good with my whole game," added Cernousek, who turned pro in December after winning a US collegiate golf title playing for Texas A&M last year. Cernousek was one stroke in front of a group that included former world number one Park Sung-hyun and South Korean compatriot Lee5 Jeong-eun, two-time major winner Brooke Henderson of Canada, Chinese rookie Miranda Wang and American Gurleen Kaur. Henderson and Wang both nabbed seven birdies without a bogey, Henderson teeing off on 10 and launching her round with four straight birdies before adding three more coming in. Wang had five of her birdies on the back nine, including four in a row at 12, 13, 14 and 15. Lee5 had an eagle and six birdies with one bogey. Park had eight birdies to offset her lone bogey, as did Kaur. Five more players were tied on 66 and another eight on five-under 67. Juli Inkster, the 65-year-old LPGA Hall of Famer making a rare appearance on tour as she preps for the US Women's Senior Open, fired a three-under 69. "I was a little nervous teeing off," the 31-time LPGA winner admitted. "Settled in pretty good. You know, I actually thought I putted really well today. "Hit a lot of good irons and I drove the ball well. I was happy with that." bb/pst

Celtic fans set new title record as Rangers and Russell Martin served bleak sentence by Hotline jury

It could be the earliest finish to the Premiership season ever. September 1 would have to be a new record but - according to Celtic fans - that's when Brendan Rodgers' side will effectively be handed the trophy. Because they'll have beaten Russell Martin's ropey Rangers to potentially go 10 points clear at the top of the table - before we've even had an international break. READ MORE: SPFL would allow Rangers fixture postponement U-turn as St Mirren caught in middle of confusion READ MORE: I know exactly what Auston Trusty is going through at Celtic so write him off at your peril It's all hypothetical, of course, but after Celtic's win at Pittodrie and Gers slipping up against Dundee, the Hoops supporters on the Hotline are in confident mood. And on the other side of the city, Martin is feeling the heat already. In fact, some cocky Parkhead punters think the Ibrox gaffer might struggle to get into SECOND place. First up, Gordon Ashley from Ayr said: 'Why are Rangers fans getting so upset? When you see their true position in Scottish football, last year Aberdeen were the champions' biggest challengers for silverware - and this year it will be Hearts. 'Celtic are more than double the size of their club and the glory days are over for Rangers, so get used to it guys.' Eddie Eason, Ballingry, said: 'The boring Hotline caller, Alan Fleet, says he'd bet money on Celtic losing to the minnows his team have played. 'Really? That's why one bookie is already paying out on Celtic winning the league.' Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: 'I don't see that other mob bragging much this season. After saying they'd win this and that - it's now very quiet at Ibrox. This is so easy for Celtic, I don't see us dropping many points at all this season. The gap is growing.' Steven McSherry, Uddingston, said: 'With Hibs and Hearts in good shape, it augurs well for Celtic as we need a challenge to keep us sharp. 'With Rangers now a spent force in Scottish football we need others to provide strong competition.' Stephen Johnstone from Ardentinny, at least tried to add a bit of humour - if you can call it that - by saying: 'What do Rangers' Premiership starts and peeling onions have in common? Ultimately, they both end in tears.' Don't give up the day job, Stephen. At Ibrox, all is not well after their home draw with the Dark Blues where fans made their feelings known towards Martin. And he wasn't getting much Hotline sympathy either. David Thomson from Milngavie said: 'Martin isn't helping himself with some of the things he's coming out with. He says Rangers are now unbeaten in five games but supporters don't want to hear that. 'If we lose to Celtic at Ibrox on August 31 and go 10 points behind, the league season will be over and the kids are barely back at school. That's not good enough.' The Gers gaffer was cut a bit of slack by Drew Ferguson from Oban who said: 'Irrespective of whether you like or dislike Martin, he needs to be given time. New players are still trying to develop relationships on the pitch. 'What is clear is that Max Aarons isn't superior to anything we've already got. And Martin still needs a left-back, centre-back and striker.' Elsewhere, Hearts have started the season on fire and - if Tony Bloom is to be believed - will mount a title challenge of their own. Unsurprisingly, their rivals from across the city aren't having it. Neil Renton from Leith said: 'Never mind Liam Gallagher having a go at Edinburgh Council - it can't be long before Hearts fans do the same. 'After all, how come they've not been allowed to have a parade after winning the league? Some might say the Jambos shouldn't get too carried away after just two games!' Someone who won't get carried away, despite being on the verge of a massive move to Serie A, is humble Scotland star Lennon Miller. The 18-year-old is on his way to Udinese where he'll join the likes of Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour and Lewis Ferguson in the Italian top flight. Celtic were rumoured to be interested in Miller but one punter says that was never going to happen. Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton said: 'The will he, won't he Miller saga is reaching a conclusion as he heads to Italy. 'I don't agree this is a John McGinn situation for Celtic. The fact is, we have an abundance of talent in midfield and Miller would have been warming the bench. At this stage of his career, he obviously wants to be in a starting line-up.'

Panicked Rangers pundits uncover Russell Martin truth as Kris Boyd 'worries' spiral after Plzen

Rangers saw off Vikrotia Plzen to progress in the Champions League and reach the playoff round. But after carrying a three goal advantage into the second leg things were far from straightforward. The Czechs passed up countless opportunities as they dominated the second leg on home turf - but Lyall Cameron's goal in a 2-1 defeat proved to be enough to put the game beyond the hosts. READ MORE: Celtic to face Kairat in Champions League playoff as nightmare 7000 mile trip awaits READ MORE: Russell Martin tells Rangers to forget Champions League if one thing doesn't happen as he gives Dessers injury update It's now onto Club Brugge despite a nervy night in a shoot-out for the £40million jackpot in the league phase. And Kris Boyd admits he is concerned about the defensive issues that are already creeping into the Light Blues' game. He told Sky Sports: "I think when you get to this stage, the main thing is just to get through, but once again it's a worry for me - and it will be a worry for Russell Martin - the two goals are really poor defensively. "Jefte for the first one, and it looks like they got off the back of Joe Rothwell for the second. "The work was done in the first leg, they managed to get that away goal and settle themselves down again." Concerned Stephen Thompson reckons that a better team than Plzen would have sent the Scottish Premiership side out of the competition. He told BBC Sportsound: "The performance wasn't good. What he (Russell Martin) will be satisfied with is the job that they did at Ibrox, but the performance just wasn't there tonight. "If they were playing against a better quality of team they could have lost this game, it could have gone to extra-time with the chances they missed. "Credit (Jack) Butland with one incredible save, but they can't afford to play like that against whoever comes through into the playoff game. "You guarantee they won't pass up those kinds of gifts. I don't think the performance was good, but the job was done at Ibrox." Ian McCall shared the concerns over the backline and Martin's style of play, adding: "I think it's really important to have principles, but for me you have got to be flexible. "But when you have got principles you don't have to rip everything up. You can tweak it a little bit just to get through a game, but Russell Martin appears to not want to do that. "He had a tough time in the Premier League, but he's had success. I think it's really good to be strong and have your beliefs, but it's okay to tweak it."
