HAWKESBURY TIPS
BEST BET
Race 6 No.1 CHARLEROI: Highest rated horse in this race off an impressive last start win.
NEXT BEST
Race 2 No.3 ALL SAINTS: Beaten a nose on debut; spelled, trialled like a bomb recently.
VALUE
Race 7 No.6 LIKE LUKEY: Ideally suited out to 1800m, third-up, at a favoured venue.
QUADDIE
Race 5: 2,8,10,11
Race 6: 1
Race 7: 6,8
Race 8: 2,4
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Rachel King will be popular with punters to win the TAB Jockeys Challenge.
HORSESHOE HILL (7) is a 2YO taking on the older horses but only five of them at most. This daughter of dual G2 winner Miss Rose de Lago was tipped out after finishing third to stablemate O' Ole and Memo in the Wyong 2YO Magic Millions on December 11. Smashing trial win on June 6. VANLEE (6) took a lot of ground off Manaajem late when runner-up at Wyong on New Year's Eve. Trialling well herself. LAND SPEED (2) has come back in fine order.
BET: HORSESHOE HILL (7) to win.
ALL SAINTS (3) was off the map on debut ($2.10 into $1.55) in a Kembla 1000m Maiden on February 8. Beaten a nose with no excuse. They did run 56.66s so not a bad effort in defeat. Spelled, trialled like a bomb (as usual) the other day. CELERITY (5), an $850,000 Easter Yearling, brings strong city form, black-type form in fact, to the provincials today. EL QASABI (1) has claims on a debut second, albeit a distant one.
BET: ALL SAINTS (3) to win, quinella 3,5.
REVERBERATES (3) is a valuable filly for later on given she is a granddaughter of Wrap Around, herself a daughter of Beach Gown. This Brad Widdup-housed local has placed at three of her six starts, going within inches of a win at Wyong last time. MALBORK CASTLE (1) is a half to Showtime and Sweet Idea. The son of Castelvecchio is trained by Castelvecchio's' trainer Richard Litt and has placed at six of his eight starts. So ready for 1800m today!
BET: REVERBERATES (3) to win, quinella 1,3.
AUTUMN HEIR (7) is a possible/probable to go to Nowra today. Go well down there! That being the case, it would open the door for his stablemate JAMARNI (8) who is galloping towards his first win. Could make the case to argue that he turned in a career best last start; Zac Lloyd sticks. EMPRESS TSARINA (6) finished third in that same race at Kembla on June 3 where Jamarni was second. If you like one, you almost have to like the other.
BET: AUTUMN HEIR (7) to win but if scratched JAMARNI (8) to win.
NOTHING BUT NET (11) was $31 for no good reason when he came down the middle and over the top to win a 1000m 2YO Maiden at Goulburn on debut. The downside is, it wasn't an especially strong affair but the upside is, he won, he will surely take improvement from the day out and he is at home this time. That said, QUEEN'S RHAPSODY (2) 's form is far superior in terms of depth but she still has to go 1300m (first time) from the outside alley.
BET: NOTHING BUT NET (11) each-way.
CHARLEROI (1) was a $360,000 Easter purchase. Gelding now but still worth mentioning that he is a Dundeel out of a stakeswinning Snitzel granddaughter of Monsoon Wedding. The Sara Ryan-trained 3YO was third on debut in town, fourth on the Kenso after that and then went to Kembla and won, not by far, but still with some authority. VIA VARALLO (8) led throughout to win easily at Nowra after running third to Maison Louis no less!
BET: CHARLEROI (1) to win (best bet), Daily Double 1st leg 1, 2nd leg 4.
LIKE LUKEY (6) has a tidy C.V of 12 starts, three wins, two seconds and four third. Those three wins came in succession – one by four, one by two-and-a-bit and the third by a length-and-a-half here at her only previous visit. Expecting her to bounce back, big time, off the last start Rosehill run. INCANTATION (8) is a consistent Goldolphin mare who held her ground admirably in town last start. Always looked like a mile-plus type and it's 1800m today.
BET: LIKE LUKEY (6) to win, quinella 6,8, box trifecta 5,6,7,8.
INOUE (4) is a Peter Snowden-trained 3YO and follows Wayupinsthesky, Thousand Years and Vomo Island as residents past and present at his High Street stables. Inoue won first-up at Gosford then went to a Class 1 at Kembla and won it too only this time he beat King's Secret! Wish the stablemate CASSIEL (2) wasn't here to challenge because they are hard to split now. Cassiel is fast and a last start winner. THE GREY (6), with a home-track advantage. is presumably fitter for his first-up fifth.
BET: INOUE (4) to win, quinella 2,4.

Taylor Duryea has announced his retirement

The list of active Hawthorn premiership players is down by one more after Taylor Duryea joined his former teammate Luke Breust in announcing his retirement. Duryea played in two flags with the Hawks before moving to the Western Bulldogs and has called time after 219 games for the two clubs. It leaves veteran goalkicker Jack Gunston and St Kilda star Brad Hill as the only remaining players from Hawthorn's three-peat of premierships in 2013-15. 'I am obviously proud of the team success I've been able to experience at both AFL and VFL level, but I think it's enduring adversity and overcoming challenges that have made my career so fulfilling,' Duryea said. 'Dealing with injury and form, signing eight one-year contracts or the change of clubs… I've always remained consistent in my approach to both the game and the people around me. 'I hope I can leave the game with an earned respect for not just my footy but for how I treated people. I have formed so many wonderful relationships that I'll forever be grateful for. 'I'm thankful to both Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs for believing in me. I hope I've been able to positively impact both clubs who placed faith and trust in me. 'I'm extremely proud to be a 100-game player at two clubs, that will forever hold a special place in my heart.' Duryea played in the 2014 and 2015 Hawthorn premierships before joining the Bulldogs for the 2019 season and played 101 games for the red, white, and blue, including the losing 2021 grand final. The 34-year-old has only played five games AFL games in 2025. ********************************************** Three-time premiership-winning Hawthorn star Luke Breust has announced his retirement, leaving teammate Jack Gunston and coach Sam Mitchell as the final active links to the club's unforgettable three-peat of grand final wins. Breust, 34, will wear the Hawthorn jumper for the 307th time in Saturday's MCG clash with Melbourne, elevating him to equal third on Hawthorn's all-time games-played list. It's a record he'll share with Mitchell, who was a teammate in three premiership wins and is now his coach, and one he could pass should he maintain his spot as the Hawks push to the finals. Breust is one of only nine Hawks to have played 300 or more games for the club and his 552 goals puts him seventh on Hawthorn's all-time goalkicker list. Hawks legends Jack Gunston, Sam Mitchell and Luke Breust. Picture: Michael Willson/AFL Photos via Getty Images It brings to an end an epic career that started in the small NSW town of town Temora before he was picked up as an 18-year-old in the 2009 rookie draft. Bruest went on to play in premierships in 2013, 2014 and 2015 as part of one of the most dominant teams of the modern era. Breust was also a two-time All-Australian and a five-team leading goalkicker at the Hawks. He also holds the AFL record for most games played by a rookie. 'Luke's accolades and achievements will see him remembered as one of Hawthorn's genuine greats – three-time premiership player, twice an All Australian, five times our leading goalkicker, 550-plus total career goals, 300-plus games – Punky has done it all,' Hawthorn football boss Rob McCartney said. 'Whether it was hitting the scoreboard individually or bringing teammates into the game, Luke's ability to contribute consistently at a high level over such a long period of time has been one of his trademark attributes. Breust is one of Hawthorn's all-time greats. 'In recent years, his leadership, mentoring and guidance of our younger players has allowed both individuals and the team to improve. His legacy will be seen on game day for many years to come, particularly when you watch the skill and craft of our small forwards. 'In the future, Luke should sit in the stands and smile knowing he continues to be part of what we do.' Gunston, 33 who returned to the Hawks after a short-lived move to Brisbane, has kicked 53 goals in 2025 and is set to play on into 2026 as the final active player from the premiership three-peat.

Ken Hinkley says lack of premiership 'stings a lot' ahead of final game as Port Adelaide coach

Ken Hinkley, who is "staggered" he lasted so long as Port Adelaide coach, knows what his legacy is. "Didn't make a grand final, didn't win one," Hinkley told reporters on Tuesday. "That's probably what it will be. That's the reality of football. "We built the footy club up, we have done really well with lots of things — ultimately we didn't quite get to the end." Hinkley's 13-year tenure as Power coach ends on Friday night with his last game in charge, against Gold Coast at Adelaide Oval, before handing over to long-time assistant Josh Carr. From 297 games at the helm, Hinkley has a winning percentage of 58.45 — higher than renowned master coaches including Alastair Clarkson, Mick Malthouse, Kevin Sheedy and Ron Barassi. But that quartet won premierships, unlike Hinkley, who holds the unwanted record of most VFL/AFL games coached without reaching a grand final. "It stings a lot," said Hinkley, who took Port to the finals in seven of his 13 years, but lost four preliminary finals. "I mean, that's what you set out to do. "You look at the results of a coach, and ultimately your result is to get to a grand final and win a grand final. "As harsh as that it is, we didn't get there. Hinkley admitted he wasn't "super keen" in 2012 to pitch for the Port job after previously being in the running, then overlooked, for the role at Richmond and Geelong. But with some prompting from family, the then Gold Coast assistant decided on "one more time to have a crack". Port had approached a series of higher-profile candidates, including Chris Scott and Rodney Eade, who rejected the overtures, leading Hinkley to declare when appointed in October 2012 that he was "the last man standing". "I'm the right man leaving too, now," he said at his last pre-match media conference, watched by Port's men's and women's players and club staffers. "We've had a great journey together and it has been full of ups and downs but one I'm incredibly proud of." The 58-year-old admitted some parts of the coaching role were "pretty average". "But that chase, that thrill of victory, that will always keep you going as a coach," he said. "There's parts — you wake up at three in the morning. And you didn't want to wake up some mornings. "But overall, the job is so satisfying and it's such a great job to have and we're honoured to have that job as a senior coach for an AFL footy club. "It was just about the players and watching them win. "Five minutes after a game, when you get a victory with them, it is enough — that is enough to drive you to keep doing this for your entire life." Hinkley described Port as a "really successful footy club, particularly the last five years where we won a lot of football matches". "But there were plenty of times, it seemed like after every loss, it was like 'it's time for you to go'," he said. "I am staggered that I survived this long, to be honest." AAP

‘Collarbone has gone': Max Verstappen's Daniel Ricciardo prophecy comes true

Red Bull star Max Verstappen's magic appears to extend well beyond the F1 track, as a recently unearthed conversation with Daniel Ricciardo has proven. The former teammates were thick as thieves in the paddock and the affection has continued even after the Aussie was pushed into retirement. Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every practice, qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship™ LIVE in 4K. New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1. Ricciardo has kept a low profile since he was removed from his Racing Bulls seat after the Singapore Grand Prix last year. But the easily recognisable Aussie made headlines over the weekend after he was hospitalised due to a motorbike crash in Queensland while driving through the Daintree. He was reportedly taken to Mossman Hospital for treatment after suffering a collarbone injury — remember that. Despite the injury, he was reportedly 'in good spirits'. But before he left the grid, everyone's favourite F1 personality shared a microphone with Verstappen in a joint interview with Channel 10's now-defunct The Project last season. Watch the video in the player above. 'Dan, you've got one perfect day with Max as your date. Where do you take him in Australia?' interviewer Georgie Tunny said. Ricciardo: 'Whoa, whoa! A friendly date? We're going to get the wrong idea …' Verstappen: 'Your farm? Let's go there.' Ricciardo: 'Yes, yes, yes. To my farm. And we would ride …' Verstappen: 'Break a leg …' Ricciardo: '[We would ride] Honda, little 110cc dirt bikes. That is what we'd be doing all day.' Verstappen: 'And then we call Red Bull and we're like: 'Argh, we just had a shunt. We can't do the next four races because Daniel's collarbone has gone!'' Ricciardo: 'No, don't say that!' That's some dark magic Verstappen is playing with … All jokes aside, Ricciardo has often been seen in downtime driving fast in any vehicle he can get his hands on and makes the most of his Western Australian ranch. It's one of several properties the 14-year F1 veteran owns around the world. The news of Ricciardo's injury comes after he opened up on his post-F1 life while headlining the Ray White's Connect conference recently. 'Well, I haven't been shaving my face. The beard is my comfort right now,' he told sports presenter Mel McLaughlin. 'I had a fallout with my barber and then I lost my razor. It's been a tough six months.' He then got serious, saying he realised his drive for F1 success made him somewhat 'selfish' and, since being axed from Red Bull, has been working hard to find himself and focus on what really matters in life. 'I've lived this crazy, high-speed life for so long, and I just sat into a little bit of stillness. I suddenly wasn't always surrounded by a tonne of people giving their opinions and thoughts,' Ricciardo continued. 'I've had a lot of time, I've done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn't get mauled by a grizzly which was a bonus. 'I've been trying to figure out who I am other than this race car driver. 'I've come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends. 'I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.'
