SCDF said, "Two persons from the affected unit on the 10th floor and three others from neighbouring units were assessed for smoke inhalation — one of whom also sustained burn injuries. All five were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH). In addition, a child from a neighbouring unit was assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

The sinkhole at Tanjong Katong Road South has been filled and testing is ongoing to prepare the stretch of road for use. Herman Ching, director of national water agency PUB's water reclamation (network) department, told reporters late on Monday (28 July) that the sinkhole was refilled early in the day with liquefied stabilised soil, which is made of soil, cement and water.
When poured into the sinkhole, it will fill all the voids in a matter of hours and eventually form a 'competent soil-like material'. 'This material will provide the strength needed for road construction later,' he reportedly said.
On PUB's Facebook page, it said that it's "conducting rigorous tests and scans to detect underground cavities and verify ground stability". It added that "the tests are:
1. ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scan, which uses radio waves to assess the subsurface layers;
2. probing, which involves drilling into the ground to detect the ground condition and presence of any voids; and
3. seismic scanning to record sound waves underground, to identify anomalies that might indicate voids."
Meanwhile, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will carry out an independent investigation into the sinkhole that formed in Tanjong Katong Road South, said National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat.

A man has died from severe injuries suffered in a fire that he started at a Stripes gas station on South Padre Island Drive on July 29, according to the Corpus Christi Fire Department. Arson investigators determined that the fire was intentional based on evidence gathered at the scene, witness interviews and security camera footage from a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store, according to a written statement from Assistant Fire Chief Juan 'Tony' Perez. The man, identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office as Santos Ligues, succumbed to his injuries at Brooke Army Medical Center in the early morning of Aug. 3. Investigators are looking further into the details of the commercial fire that ignited at the station at 5939 South Padre Island Drive. Officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department responded to the call of a fire at 5:39 p.m., according to a departmental news release. First responders arrived at 5:44 p.m. and found a vehicle and gas pumps engulfed in flames underneath one of the awnings and the injured man in the parking lot, Fire Chief Brandon Wade said. The first crew of firefighters to arrive immediately tended to the injured man, while another pulled a hose line to extinguish the vehicle fire, he said. Medics first took him to Bay Area Medical Center. However, an ambulance later transferred him to the hospital burn unit in San Antonio due to the severity of his burns, Perez said. Perez said that the department collected statements from witnesses and spoke with the victim's family members at the end of last week and over the weekend to compile a report that explained the cause of the fire. He said that the man's family is believed to be from San Antonio. The Corpus Christi Police Department did not respond to a request for comment. A man is in critical condition after a fire erupted at an Exxon gas station on South Padre Island Drive on July 29. At 5:39 p.m., officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department responded to a call of a commercial fire in the 5900 block of South Padre Island Drive near Airline Road, according to a departmental news release. Firefighters from the Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived at 5:44 p.m. and found a vehicle and gas pumps engulfed in flames underneath one of the awnings, Fire Chief Brandon Wade said. The first fire crew to arrive attended to an injured man in the parking lot, while other firefighters pulled a hose line to extinguish the vehicle fire, he said. When a battalion chief officer upgraded the vehicle fire and gas pump to a structure fire, the department sent additional fire trucks, an EMS vehicle, ladder trucks and incident command officers. A total of nine units put out the flames by 5:46 p.m., within a couple of minutes of applying water, Wade said. EMS transported the man to the Corpus Christi Medical Center Bay Area Hospital in critical condition. He was later airlifted to a burn unit in San Antonio, the chief said. No one was in the vehicle during the fire. The chief praised the department and law enforcement for the quick, coordinated response and success in transporting the patient to the hospital within about seven minutes. 'We had a great response to this, which allowed us to manage it very quickly to reduce any other fire spread and keep it from hurting anyone else,' he said. 'With fuel fires, you may need more water, so by bringing more units, it helps establish more water supply. 'We were on scene a lot longer because of the fuel spill coming from the fire,' he said, adding that gas tanks will sometimes rupture in such scenarios. Arson investigators with the fire department are determining what caused the fire. The chief added that the department thinks the vehicle that caught fire belongs to the man and that it could have been accidental. While cars sometimes catch fire at gas stations, the fact that it happened in the middle of the day and involved a free-burning gas pump that severely injured someone made it unusual. 'This is not something you typically see, but we're prepared for it,' Wade said. 'Thankfully, that doesn't happen every day of every year.'
