Sean Payton believes Broncos are capable of winning Super Bowl 60
The Denver Broncos were once perennial contenders. Making it to the playoffs was almost a foregone conclusion. They, however, have tapered off over the last few years, and Broncos coach Sean Payton want to put an end to that.
The Broncos qualified for the playoffs last season, ending an eight-year drought. While they were booted out by the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round, it's clear that Payton has steered the squad to the right direction.
Now entering his third year in Denver, buoyed by the continued improvement of sophomore quarterback Bo Nix and a slew of roster changes, the 61-year-old Payton's confidence is as high as the Rocky Mountains.
'I like this team a lot,' said Payton in a report from Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson.
'I've talked about a Super Bowl. (Since the) first meeting I had with them. First meeting.'
When he signed with the Broncos in 2023 to end a brief retirement, he stressed the relevance of the job in trying to lead them back to the top. The team hasn't made it to the Super Bowl since winning it all in 2016.
For Payton, all the pieces are in place in Denver, and he can already envision the squad lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy this season.
'The short-term goal is winning the division. But this is a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. I've coached six teams that I thought could win the Super Bowl. Some went to championship games, some to the playoffs,' said the one-time AP Coach of the Year.
'This is my seventh team that I think has that.'
Of course, it will be easier said than done for the Broncos, especially with the Kansas City Chiefs still lording it over in the AFC West.
But sometimes, believing is half the battle, and Payton is a perennial believer.

He also made a special teams tackle. He is a player most fans won't know, but the TV broadcast emphasized he is good on special teams. He showed enough to probably secure a spot on the roster, especially considering he ha almost all his salary guaranteed in 2025. K Chad Ryland He only had the one extra point and did not have a field-goal attempt, But before the game, he drilled a 72-yard field goal. There is no issue with his leg. That was about it. Broncos 27, Cardinals 7: Takeaways from offensive performance on offense
It was hard to find a single positive about the Cardinals' offensive play against the Broncos on Saturday. The Arizona Cardinals played their second preseason game Saturday night, and it was not a pretty game. They were blown out by the Denver Broncos 27-7. It wasn't a good game on either side of the ball. Offensively, it was bad. What can we take away from the offensive performance? Feels good with Jacoby Brissett For the second straight game, new Cardinals backup Jacoby Brissett impressed. This time, he played only two drives in the first quarter. The first one went only six yards in five plays, picking up a first down, but he led the Cardinals to another touchdown, throwing a beautiful pass to receiver Simi Fehoko for the score. He was 6-of-8 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown, and he picked up a first down on a two-yard quarterback sneak. It gives fans comfort knowing that there is a capable, even competent, backup behind Kyler Murray. However, we must also remember that the five possessions he has played in two preseason games, while three have results in touchdowns, they were all against their opponents' backups. The offensive numbers are just bad The Cardinals gained only 135 yards of offense the entire night. They had only eight first downs. If you take away Brissett's two possessions, quarterback Clayton Tune led the Cardinals on eight drives that netted 62 yards and three first downs. They went three-and-out five times. There was no running game Now, the Cardinals didn't play their starters, so no starting offensive line and no James Conner or Trey Benson. But even still, they gained only 36 yards on 17 carries. At least there were no turnovers If there was one bright side to the Cardinals' abysmal offensive night was the fact that they did not turn the ball over. They didn't fumble at all and no interceptions were thrown, so at least it was a turnover-free game.
