FA Cup: TRW Coach Elavarasan Says KL City Tough To Beat

Barnama5 days ago
KOTA BHARU, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Kelantan The Real Warriors (TRW) head coach E. Elavarasan foresees an uphill task against Kuala Lumpur City (KL City) FC in their FA Cup tie at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here on Aug 18.
Elavarasan based his assessment on last night's Super League clash against Immigration FC, which exposed TRW's lack of firepower.
'They (KL City) are among the strongest and most experienced teams in the FA Cup, and they will not be easy for us to beat. We must work hard to address our weaknesses before facing KL City,' he told reporters after the Super League match, which ended 1-1.

Elavarasan added that he would be focusing on his team's attack during training in preparation for the next match.
'In the match against Immigration, many chances were wasted by our strikers, who were hesitant to finish when opportunities arose. This needs to be fixed for the next match,' he said.
Immigration head coach Yusri Che Lah said his team also face a challenging path ahead in the Malaysia League as they are scheduled to meet Terengganu FC in the FA Cup on Aug 17.
'Our journey is a very difficult one — first we face Terengganu FC, then we will meet Kuching City FC and Johor Darul Ta'zim.
'We know Terengganu FC are strong. Their strength lies in the fact that their local players have been together for five or six seasons, in addition to having quality imports,' he said.
He added that team cohesion has improved after two Super League matches, and they will make the best use of the roughly one week of training before facing Terengganu FC.

Soccer-World champions Chelsea brought down to earth by Palace

Soccer Football - Premier League - Chelsea v Crystal Palace - Stamford Bridge, London, Britain - August 17, 2025 Chelsea's Marc Cucurella in action with Crystal Palace's Daniel Munoz Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge LONDON (Reuters) -A huge banner hailing the "Champions of the World" was unfurled in The Shed end of the Stamford Bridge stadium before Chelsea's return to domestic action on Sunday hot on the heels of the club's success at the Club World Cup last month. But by the end of the 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace, Chelsea fans had no doubts about the differences between playing in a summer tournament and the rigours of the Premier League, even with the addition of yet more high-profile signings. Chelsea were fortunate not to have gone behind in the 13th minute when Eberechi Eze hammered home a free-kick for the visitors, only for his effort to be overruled on a technicality due to the position of a teammate in the defensive wall. The Blues' Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens failed to have much impact on their league debuts and it was stand-in 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong - selected to play in the centre of the back line - who caught the eye. After the excitement generated by Chelsea's 3-0 drubbing of European champions Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup final on July 13, and pre-season wins over Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, Sunday's stalemate was frustrating for the home fans. Their chorus of "We've won it all" faded as Chelsea struggled to pierce Palace's defensive lines and there was an air of resignation as the final whistle approached. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca can take some positives from the performance of his young side against last season's FA Cup winners, including the impact of Brazilian winger Estevao who injected urgency and pace after he came on in the 54th minute. The 18-year-old had a great chance to win the game in the dying minutes when he was found by a cross from Marc Cucurella but he fired over the bar. Maresca praised Estevao for showing personality and said: "He will be a very important player for this club." The Italian manager played down suggestions Chelsea's preparations for the new season were too short due to the club competing in the United States until mid-July. "I don't think so because until the end we competed, we tried to win the game," he told reporters. Palace coach Oliver Glasner was peppered with questions about the future of England midfielder Eze who is reported to a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs. "It's the club's decision and we will see what happens," the Austrian said. (Writing by William Schomberg)

Penang striker Dylan rocks Hang Jebat Stadium with a brace

PETALING JAYA: Dylan Wenzel-Halls stole the show at the Hang Jebat Stadium as the Australian striker struck twice to fire Penang to a 2-0 victory over Melaka in their FA Cup round-of-16 first-leg clash on Sunday (Aug 17). The 27-year-old thought he had broken the deadlock in the first half with a superb curling effort from Bosnian winger Danilo Sipovac's pass. But after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, the goal was chalked off as Sipovac was judged to have fouled Melaka midfielder Nizaruddin Jazi in the build-up. Wenzel-Halls' frustration boiled over, and he was shown a yellow card by referee Nawal Mohd Zubir for his protests. But there was no denying him after the break. Just three minutes into the second half, he calmly slotted home from Ivorian striker Tchetche Kipre's pass to give Penang the lead. His celebration was filled with emotion as he made the VAR gesture before embracing fans in the stands. He doubled his tally in the 69th minute, latching onto a clever through ball from Wan Zack Haikal Wan Noor and firing a low shot that slipped past Melaka goalkeeper Jun Badelic. Penang will now take a healthy advantage into the second leg, with Wenzel-Halls' brace proving the difference on the night. Earlier, Sabah hammered Bunga Raya 6-0 while Immigration stunned Terengganu 2-1 in other round-of-16 fixtures.

UPDATED: Terengganu stopped by Immigration at Batu Kawan

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuching City coach Aidil Sharin Sahak said he would lose money if he spoke his mind about the referee in their match today. Aidil admttied he had much to say about the match officiating after his team lost 3-2 to Brunei's DPMM at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in the FA Cup round of 16 first leg. In another match, newcomers Immigration FC had everyone talking about them following their shock 2-1 win over last year's FA Cup semi-finalists, Terengganu. As for the action in Brunei, much of the post-match chatter centred not on the goals, but on the referee's calls. Aidil said there were moments he wanted to speak his mind about the referee, but he decided not to. "If I comment, my pocket will be gone (coaches get fined for criticising referees) to the MFL," he said. "So why waste my money? But of course, things have to improve because the league is getting more professional. "For me, after I looked at a photo from my media, it's very clear… but in the end, it's over, we have to move on." DPMM captain Azwan Ali Rahman opened the scoring in the fourth minute, before Wanja Ronaldo Ngah levelled for Kuching just before the break. Kuching's James Okwuosa fired the visitors ahead seconds into the second half, but Miguel Oliveira struck back quickly for DPMM. Substitute Jordan Murray's 79th-minute goal gave the hosts the lead. Kuching had a chance to eqaulise in the dying minutes when the referee awarded a penalty. But Gabriel Nistelrooy Tamin's shot was saved by Kristijan Naumovski. DPMM coach Jamie McAllister said: "The boys showed great character and spirit. We're new to the league, still adapting, but we battled, and that's what fans want to see." At the Batu Kawan Stadium, newly promoted Immigration left favourites Terengganu red faced. Though the Turtles took the lead in the 50th minute through Yann Mabella, Immigration equalised four minutes later via Rafael Holstein. Brazilian Joao Pedro then struck the winner in stoppage time to seal a remarkable win for Immigration. At the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Sabah crushed A1 Semi-Pro League team Bunga Raya 6-0. On target for Sabah were former national striker Darren Lok (10th minute. 47th, 53rd penalty), Fergus Tierney (18th), Jafri Chew (45+1 penalty) and Ajdin Mujagic (80th minute penalty). At the Hang Jebat Stadium, Australian Dylan Wenzel-Halls emerged as Penang's hero in their 2-0 win over Melaka FC, scoring in the 48th and 83rd minutes.
