Jhansi: Days after a passenger was severely thrashed by a dozen people onboard the premium Vande Bharat Express in its executive class at Jhansi railway station, allegedly at the behest of Babina MLA Rajeev Singh Parichha, the BJP legislator presented his side of the story at a press conference on Thursday.

Talking to the media, Parichha said that it was a very unfortunate incident, but he was not directly involved in instigating the attack. Referring to the entire CCTV video footage of the journey, he said, "I was with my family and requested the person to exchange the seat, which he declined. I then went to order some food for my family, for which I made a call after going to the lobby. Suddenly, the same person approached me and tried to pick up a quarrel.
He was soon joined by his colleague, who was also travelling with him. Both of them continuously tried to instigate me by pointing their fingers at me and towards my family, but I still kept calm. My gunner tried to intervene, and the duo threatened him also."
Parichha further said that he lodged an online complaint and asked for further security, fearing some further backlash. When asked whether the attackers were his men, Parichha said that his security guard called his people to attend to him as they feared some possible further verbal or physical attack.
"I had the least inclination of how they suddenly got into the coach and started thrashing the man, and by the time I tried to stop it, it was all over.
"
After the video of the attack went viral, the BJP on Monday issued a show-cause notice to the two-time Babina (Jhansi) MLA. The party has sought an explanation within seven days for conduct deemed "indiscipline" that tarnished its image.
The assault sparked fury online, with X users decrying the misuse of power on India's premium train.

Govind Narayan Shukla, BJP state unit general secretary, issued the notice, warning of "strict action" if Parichha's explanation, due at the party's state headquarters, is unsatisfactory.
Claiming that some people were trying to tarnish his image, Parichha on Thursday said, "BJP is a party of discipline, and I am a disciplined worker of the party. I denounce the attack as an unfortunate event and have asked the GRP to take all legal actions against those involved in the attack.
I even called up the person concerned and talked to him while resolving the issue."
The incident unfolded on the evening of June 19 on the Bhopal-bound Vande Bharat Express in coach E2. A passenger (name withheld), occupying berth 49, was allegedly pressured by Parichha, who was travelling with his wife, son, and a security guard, to swap berth 8, allotted to the MLA. This led to an argument.
When the train reached Jhansi station, around a dozen people stormed the coach and started thrashing the occupant repeatedly, leaving him with a bloodied nose and bloodstained clothes. The matter went viral on social media, with strong criticisms pouring in from all over.

Anticipatory bail granted for actor Krishnakumar, daughter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP leader and actor Krishnakumar and his daughter Diya Krishna were granted anticipatory bail by Thiruvananthapuram principal sessions court in connection with a case for abduction that was filed by three former employees of a shop owned by Diya. The complaint of abduction was filed by Vinitha, Divya and Radhakumari, who were former employees of 'Oh by Ozy', a store owned by Diya. The police had filed a report with the court which said they could not find any evidence to substantiate the allegation of abduction. The CCTV visuals reportedly show the women leaving Diya's flat in two separate cars, weakening their claim. Meanwhile, the court turned down the anticipatory bail plea of the three women staff in the case pertaining to alleged financial fraud. Diya had complained that the women swindled Rs 69 lakh from the shop using their QR code instead of the one provided by the owners. The police informed the court that the investigation is yet to be completed and if anticipatory bail plea was granted, it would affect further investigation.

"Mamata Banerjee has politicised Lord Jagannath": Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 27 (ANI): Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar asserted that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is 'politicising' Lord Jagannath and claimed that Rath Yatra in Digha was being organised for vote bank politics. 'Organising a Rath Yatra is not the job of any government. Jagannath Puri is different, and it happens there, but Mamata Banerjee is doing this to divide the Hindu vote bank. Mamata Banerjee thinks that as the Hindu votes are slipping away from her, her rule will end, and she can do anything to maintain it. This is all political; Mamata Banerjee has politicised Lord Jagannath. Our stand is that wherever the BJP is present, it will participate in the Rath Yatra.' Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee visited the Lord Jagannath temple in Digha in West Bengal on Thursday, ahead of the Jagannath Rath Yatra scheduled to start on June 27. CM Mamata Banerjee said, 'Lord Jagannath temple has become a major place of pilgrimage. The Rath Yatra will be held on a 1 km route from 9 am to 4 pm tomorrow. The aarti will be performed at 2.30 pm. Our ministerial team has arrived here for this.' The Rs 250 crore temple in Digha, constructed over 20 acres, was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on April 30, 2025. The temple, inspired by the 12th-century Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, houses the same deities. Meanwhile, the temple town of Odisha's Puri is all set to witness the Jagannath Rath Yatra, 2025. During the festival, devotees draw the grand chariots of the three deities--Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra--to Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for a week and then return to the Jagannath temple. The Rath Yatra ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue(ANI)

"Should we call Indira Gandhi a saint for imprisoning Constitution?": BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla slams Congress

New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shehzad Poonawalla slammed Congress government in Karnataka over the registration of FIR against state BJP unit iover a social media post related to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla pointed out that rather focussing on the social media post, Karantaka Congress should focus on setting up the accountability for the 'murder' of 11 people in the Bengaluru stampede. 'Now will there be an FIR on stating facts? Should we call Indira Gandhi a saint for imprisoning the constitution? and for the way sterilisation of crores was done, lakhs were put in jail, lakhs were made homeless, basic constitutional rights were ripped off, 250 journalists were imprisoned. There are no FIR on the people who call PM Modi Hitler and demean him each day,' BJP spokesperson said. 'Today Karnataka Congress is screaming that they have Emergency-like DNA. There is no accountability for the 'murder' of 11 people in stampede, multiple scams, inflation and breaking promises made in manifesto, girl child harassed in broad daylight. This represents their priority,' he added. This comes after an FIR was registered against Karnataka BJP over their controversial social media post on X, targeting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Earlier today, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara defended the registration of an FIR against the Karnataka BJP for its controversial post on 'X' targeting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying the action was taken in response to complaints. Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said, 'FIRs are registered based on certain complaints or suo moto if there are some things which generate animosity among people. In this case, if someone tries to malign the leader who served the country for many years and considers the positive development during that time, naturally, some people will object.' Karnataka BJP Chief BY Vijayendra defended the party's social media post, claiming that it was an apt description of the emergency imposed. 'Yesterday was the completion of 50 years of the day when Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency in the country. This issue has been discussed nationwide. What is wrong with the BJP's comparison of Indira Gandhi to Hitler? The world knows how the entire democracy collapsed to save her power... Senior leaders, Sangh parivar, everybody was put behind bars, and the media was suppressed... Probably DK Shivakumar must go back and learn what history has to say about the Emergency, about how democracy was suppressed,' he said. Between 25 June 1975 and 21 March 1977, India was placed under a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. On 25 June 1975, the then-President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the Emergency Proclamation under Article 352, citing threats from internal disturbance. This was the third Emergency in India's history, but the first one declared in peacetime. Earlier proclamations were during wars with China (1962) and Pakistan (1971). (ANI)
