Latitude slot takes singer a step nearer her dream

Yahoo2 days ago
A singer-songwriter once voted by her sixth form as the most likely to headline the Latitude Festival is one step closer to her dream as she prepares to take the stage at this year's event.
Alice-Lily, 22, from Rackheath, near Norwich, is learning to juggle her music career while being a fourth-year medicine student, spending any spare time performing or collaborating with other artists.
Tens of thousands of music fans , near Southwold, Suffolk, for the festival, headlined by Sting, Snow Patrol and Fatboy Slim, from 24 to 27 July.
Alice-Lily said: "It's our local festival so to be able to say that I'm playing it is such an amazing privilege and honour."
She said she was in disbelief when BBC Radio Suffolk's Angelle Joseph surprised her with the news that she had been chosen to play the Faber Alt. & BBC Introducing Stage on Saturday.
"In my sixth form year book we had this little section talking about 'who's most likely to'," she said.
"The thing I was put forward for was 'most likely to headline Latitude', so I'm saying I'm one step closer. It really means a lot.
"I grew up in a very musical household. Both my parents sing and for as long as I can remember I have been immersed in music."
However, her earliest musical memory is from the age of two.
"I like to say my singing journey started back in nursery. I was the shining star in the nativity story and I sang all the verses of Silent Night... it sort of started back then and it's been a progression."
She says her music draws on her Christian faith and influences including Jorja Smith and James Morrison.
Her proud mum, Linda Nnene, said her daughter had the support of the whole family.
"Be it the successes, the challenges, the joys or anything with regard to music, we are always beside her, behind her and spurring her on," she said.
"Music is in her soul and in her heart and she came to us and we weren't surprised when she said she wanted to do it going forward."

Prince William and Princess Charlotte pose for cute photo at Euro 2025 final

Prince William and Princess Charlotte are ready for some soccer. The Prince of Wales, 43, and his 10-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte stepped out on Sunday, July 27, in Switzerland to attend the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 final between England and Spain. Charlotte, who wore a blue dress with white polka dots for the occasion, posed for photos with her dad at the event, as seen in a picture shared on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account. Ahead of the match, William wished the England women's national soccer team good luck in an Instagram story. "The nation is so proud you are through to the final after some stunning comebacks!" he wrote. "We are all cheering you on!" William checked in with another message halfway through the match, writing, "May the best team win." Princess Charlotte looks just like Prince William in birthday photo taken by Princess Kate The public outing comes after William, Charlotte, Princess Kate and Prince George all stepped out on July 13 to attend the Wimbledon Championships' singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Charlotte was wearing a ruffled white dress for that game. The royal family recently celebrated Prince George's 12th birthday on Tuesday, July 22. In a photo shared on Instagram, George was seen wearing a blue and white button-down shirt and zip-up vest, and a video showed him posing for pictures with his siblings Charlotte and Prince Louis, 7. Though she announced in January that her cancer is in remission, she was unexpectedly absent from a scheduled public appearance at Royal Ascot in June. Earlier this month, while visiting Colchester Hospital in Essex, Kate discussed how the next phase of recovery after treatment can be challenging. "You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment," she said. "Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually the phase afterwards is really, really difficult." Kate Bush tribute held on 'Wuthering Heights Day'

A government minister was among dozens of women in Birmingham who took part in an event celebrating writer Emily Brontë and singer Kate Bush. The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever also raised funds for women's charities as the group joined thousands of people across the world recreating the video to Bush's 1978 song Wuthering Heights. Birmingham's inaugural event earlier was organised by The Heath Bookshop, in King's Heath. The proceedings were opened by Home Office minister and Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips. Charities set to benefit from the event include Anawim - Birmingham's Centre for Women and WE:ARE (Women's Empowerment And Recovery Educators). Shop owner Claire Dawes said it was a "great event" to put on "as the local community support the many arts events that happen here and always support charity events." The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever events have previously taken place in locations such as Sydney, Copenhagen, Berlin, Folkestone, and Preston. For the first time this year the event was set to take place on moorland on Penistone Hill, not far from the famous Brontë sister's home in Haworth. The Spice Girls and Wu-Tang Clan Almost Had Their Own Anime

Now, here's a sentence no one expected to read in the year 2025: Once upon a time, we might have gotten to see the Spice Girls and the Wu-Tang Clan in anime form. In a recent interview with AnimEigo, Lawrence Guinness, a senior VP at Manga Entertainment, distributor of anime such as Perfect Blue and Street Fighter Alpha (and subsidiary of Island Records), revealed the company considered co-producing its own works. Two projects he mentioned would have starred the aforementioned bands, and the Spice Girls idea got far enough along that he had some production stills to show. Had it happened, it'd have been a film called Girl Power: The Anime, courtesy of Production I.G, the studio behind Ghost in the Shell. According to Guinness, Manga had 'very advanced talks' with the British pop group's management at the time this was pitched and would've hopefully appealed to fans of then-popular anime like Studio Ghibli. Even now, Guinness is confident teenage girls 'might've gone to the cinema to see this. In fact, I think you would've stood in a line for a long time to get in to see this. This was the vision. Look, if that's not girl power in action, I don't know what is.' As for the never-realized Wu-Tang project, a series that would have been called The Imperial Warrior, he claimed near everything was in place for the project, except some of the hip-hop group's members didn't sign off on it. His pitch to Island Records founder Chris Blackwell saw Wu-Tang 'challenging the forces of evil through their music and martial arts skills.' The soundtrack and designs for the characters (he mentioned RZA and Ghostface Killah specifically) were 'great,' said Guinness, and it would've been 'revolutionary. That was the project I was proudest of that never happened.' Over the decades, Japanese creators have been open about their love of western music, and artists like the late Prince and Aaliyah have inspired characters in Michiko & Hatchin and My Hero Academia. Making musicians or other celebrities into fictionalized versions of themselves for film and TV is another tale as old as time, and Guinness wanted these two projects to take off to both put Manga on the map and successfully 'synthesize anime with the best of western culture.' When it comes to Wu-Tang Clan, he's sort of gotten his wish, thanks to RZA's involvement in Afro Samurai and developer Brass Lion Entertainment's upcoming action game Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver. As for the Spice Girls, it's a shame they never got their animated due—there are worse ways for a band to be memorialized than an anime movie with some original songs and cheesy action that still holds up years after the fact.
