New WR trade target emerges for Steelers amid contract dispute in NFC West

USA Today21 hours ago
The Steelers roster is primed for success in 2025 — but if they add another talented wide receiver opposite DK Metcalf? That could propel Pittsburgh to Super Bowl contender status.
Enter 49ers WR Jauan Jennings, who's coming off a breakout 2024 season and appears to be available for the Steelers to acquire.
According to insider Adam Schefter, Jennings — who's set to make $7.5 million in 2025 — is seeking a new contract or a trade, presenting the perfect opportunity for the Steelers to acquire a bona fide WR2 at a bargain.
Jennings is coming off his best production in 2024, accumulating 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 15 games — only 10 of which were starts.
The Steelers are no strangers to trade talks with the 49ers, as Pittsburgh spent the majority of summer 2024 looking to acquire WR Brandon Aiyuk. Acquiring Jennings — who produced the first 900-plus receiving yard season of his four-year career last season — should be relatively cheap, potentially a fifth-round pick and a Day 3 pick swap at the most.
If Pittsburgh is truly all in on what's looking like Aaron Rodgers' last season in 2025, trading for Jennings could push what's already a stacked Steelers roster to instant Super Bowl contender status.

Kansas City Chiefs extend star OL Trey Smith with record-breaking $92m contract

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs are set to extend the contract of star offensive lineman Trey Smith in a deal that was completed just before a Tuesday deadline for negotiations that had been set by the NFL. Schefter's report indicated that the Chiefs had agreed with Smith on a four-year contract worth a maximum of $92,000,000, which will include $70,000,000 in guarantees. Advertisement Smith's new deal will make him the highest-paid guard in NFL history and comes after the 2024 Pro Bowler expressed his desire to return to Kansas City for the long term after the Chiefs used their franchise tag on him earlier this year. Smith was one of two players who were given the franchise tag in the NFL this offseason. The one-year short-term agreement would have been worth $23,400,000 and been fully guaranteed. The two-time Super Bowl champion began his career in professional football as a sixth-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft and has emerged as one of the league's most outstanding young offensive linemen. Advertisement By signing Smith to a four-year contract, Kansas City's front office has further solidified its investment in the interior of the Chiefs' offensive line. Here we go! Five-star LB Tyler Atkinson commits to Texas

The Longhorns have just gotten one of the best players in the nation. After being projected to land him on Monday night, five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson has committed to Texas over Georgia, Clemson, and Oregon. Atkinson is the No. 9 player in the nation and the No. 1 linebacker according to Rivals industry rankings. The Grayson High School star is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia as well. Advertisement Texas has now moved up to the No. 8 recruiting class in the country. Also, Atkinson is now the second highest-ranked commitment for the Longhorns, just a few spots behind five-star quarterback Dia Bell, who is now the No. 1 QB in the nation. It's been a very productive haul for Texas on the defensive side of the ball for the 2026 cycle. Some of the other notable additions are four-star cornerback Samari Matthews, five-star edge Richard Wesley, four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland, four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, and even ATH Jermaine Bishop is expected to play some cornerback. And this all comes after several heartbreaking recruiting losses over the past couple of weeks. Texas had the No. 1 class in 2025.
