CAIRO - 18 February 2025: Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) Head Khaled Abdel Aziz on Tuesday emphasized the importance of utilizing Arab media to support the Palestinian cause, highlighting the necessity of Arab cooperation, exchanging know-how and benefiting from joint practices to serve Arab issues.
Abdel Aziz made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Minister of Media Salman al Dosari, on the sidelines of the Saudi Media Forum 2025, to discuss ways of boosting cooperation and strengthening Egypt-Saudi Arabia media relations as well as enhancing media integration between the two countries, a statement issued by the SCMR read. The meeting tackled cooperation programs in the fields of media training, along with crystallizing rapprochement in visions and policies in media programs between the two countries. Abdel Aziz underscored the importance of developing a joint Arab action to confront social media and foreign platforms that broadcast ideas against customs and traditions, alongside increasing reliance on artificial intelligence technologies in Arab media.

Spain evacuates 44 wounded or ill children from Gaza - War on Gaza

Spain has evacuated 44 wounded or ill children from war-torn Gaza along with about 100 of their relatives over the past several months, the government said Tuesday. Four separate evacuation missions were carried out in coordination with international organisations and allied nations, Spain's migration ministry, which led the operations, said in a statement. The children and their families have been relocated across Spain to receive medical treatment, it added. Those brought to Spain will be eligible to apply for asylum. Migration Minister Elma Saiz said the operations demonstrated that "solidarity and international cooperation save lives". Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's government has been among the most vocal critics in the European Union of Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza. Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war in Gaza has killed at least 61,499 people, most of them women and children, with more than 153,575 others wounded, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Chilean researchers explore second life for lithium-Ion batteries

H-Tayea A multidisciplinary team at the University of Chile is investigating how lithium-ion batteries degrade over time and how they could be repurposed to extend their usefulness and prevent large-scale waste accumulation. This is reported by TV BRICS. The research, led by the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, aims to anticipate a growing challenge in countries adopting electric mobility. In Santiago, 75 per cent of public transport relies on electric buses, and the number of private electric vehicles is rising. Batteries in these vehicles are typically replaced once they lose about 30 per cent of their capacity – even though they still retain the remaining 70 per cent. 'Large-scale implementation of electromobility brings new challenges and uncertainties that require practical solutions,' said Francisco Jaramillo, a member of the research team. One pressing question, he noted, is what to do with these batteries once they are retired from vehicles but remain functional. To address this, the team is analysing how different factors – such as temperature, operating time, environmental conditions, and geography – influence battery degradation. The goal is to create a 'usage profile' that predicts battery lifespan under specific conditions and determines their potential for a second life. Potential reuses include serving as backup power sources for critical infrastructure like telecom antennas, or storing energy from wind turbines and solar panels. New row between Israel defence minister and army chief - War on Gaza

Israel's defence minister on Tuesday reprimanded the country's army chief over appointments made without his approval, as tensions simmered between the military and the executive ahead of a planned expansion of the genocidal war in Gaza. A statement from Israel Katz's ministry, the defence minister, said that deliberations conducted by Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir on military appointments "took place... without prior coordination or agreement" with the minister. The statement added that this was "in violation of accepted procedure" and that Katz therefore "does not intend to discuss or approve any of the appointments or names that were published." In an army statement published shortly afterwards, Zamir responded that he was "the sole authority authorised to appoint officers from the rank of colonel upwards". "The chief of staff makes the appointment decisions -- after which the appointment is brought to the minister for approval," the statement added. Tensions have been simmering for two weeks between the chief of staff and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government over the next steps in the army operation in Gaza, where the occupation troops have killed nearly 62,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women. Israeli media reported that Zamir was opposed to a plan approved by the security cabinet on Friday to take control of all of densely populated Palestinian City. Israeli media reported that Zamir favoured encircling Gaza's largest city, rather than conquering it. The Israeli army controls around 75 percent of the Palestinian territory which has been devastated by 22 months of war. Zamir, who was appointed in March after his predecessor was dismissed, said last week that he would continue expressing the army's position "without fear, in a pragmatic, independent, and professional manner". Katz meanwhile said that the army chief could "express his views", but that the military would ultimately have to "execute" any government decisions on Gaza. * This story has been edited by Ahram Online Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
