Pakistani minister meets SRMG CEO, discusses media collaboration, digital innovation opportunities

ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Research and Media Group, the largest integrated media house in the Middle East and North Africa, hosted Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar at its headquarters in Riyadh 'to explore opportunities for media collaboration, content development and digital innovation,' the group said in a statement on Tuesday. The meeting took place as Tarar was in Riyadh last week to attend the Saudi Media Forum 2025 from Feb. 19-21, which brought together over 200 global media professionals, innovators and thought leaders. 'The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships and expanding content offerings to better serve audiences across both markets,' SRMG said in a statement after Tarar met the group's CEO, Jomana R. Alrashid. The two leaders discussed the 'positive impact of SRMG's Pakistan based platforms, including Independent Urdu and Urdu News, as well as the English-language publication Arab News Pakistan, in delivering high quality content that informs and connects.' 'By providing accurate, credible reporting and raising awareness of key social issues, these publications foster meaningful connections between people, promote cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen ties with audiences in Pakistan and beyond,' the statement added. While speaking at the Saudi Media Forum, Tarar had acknowledged SRMG's 'positive impact' in Pakistan. 'With regard to SRMG, we have Urdu News, we have Arab News and we have Independent Urdu, which are doing a great job,' he said during a panel discussion last Thursday. 'And [this is] not only [as] digital platforms, but overall, they have a very positive impact on our society with regard to raising awareness on social issues, with regard to bringing news to the people.' During the Riyadh visit, Tarar and his Saudi counterpart Salman Al-Dossary also announced a joint committee to co-produce songs, films and documentaries. In recent years, Pakistani dramas and films, including TV classics like 'Dhoop Kinare' and the highly acclaimed 'Humsafar,' have been dubbed in Arabic and broadcast in Saudi Arabia. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are close regional partners and economic and security allies. In October last year, the two countries signed 34 agreements worth $2.8 billion for investment projects in various sectors.

Saudi Media Forum 2025 Kicks Off in Riyadh

The fourth edition of the Saudi Media Forum has kicked off in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). On Wednesday, the Saudi Media Minister, Salman Al-Dossary, inaugurated the Saudi Media Forum 2025, in the attendance of the Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, and the former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Under the theme 'Media in an Evolving World,' the forum runs from February 19-21, 2025, bringing together top decision-makers, experts and talents in the media industry from around the world to discuss how media can leverage digital transformation to achieve sustainable growth. Saudi Media Minister In his opening remarks, Al-Dossary highlighted the media role in showcasing Saudi Arabia's success across various fields, under Vision 2030, and shaping the future of humanity. Since 2024, the Kingdom has received 24 world leaders who contributed to shaping the future. It has also hosted more than 15,625 events and conferences with over 42 million attendees, an average of about 2 events per hour throughout the year, Al-Dossary said. The Saudi Media Minister pointed to the Kingdom's influential role as a hub for hosting major events such as EXPO 2030 which will redefine innovation and FIFA World Cup 2034 which will transform sport experience into an interesting story supported by AR and smart broadcasting technologies. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Moreover, Al-Dossary said that the media sector will create around 150,000 jobs by 2030, fostering talent and accelerating innovation. He also noted that Saudi Arabia has begun to achieve the aspirations of the Year of Impact 2025 by setting clear priorities. These include developing a strategy for non-profit media, social responsibility, and volunteering; organizing an international conference for the future of news to solidify SPA's global status; completing the digitalization of SPA's historic archive; and establishing a laboratory for AI and emerging technologies in media. Egyptian and Palestinian flags - file CAIRO - 18 February 2025: Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR)​​ Head Khaled Abdel Aziz on Tuesday emphasized the importance of utilizing Arab media to support the Palestinian cause, highlighting the necessity of Arab cooperation, exchanging know-how and benefiting from joint practices to serve Arab issues. Abdel Aziz made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Minister of Media Salman al Dosari, on the sidelines of the Saudi Media Forum 2025, to discuss ways of boosting cooperation and strengthening Egypt-Saudi Arabia media relations as well as enhancing media integration between the two countries, a statement issued by the SCMR read. The meeting tackled cooperation programs in the fields of media training, along with crystallizing rapprochement in visions and policies in media programs between the two countries. Abdel Aziz underscored the importance of developing a joint Arab action to confront social media and foreign platforms that broadcast ideas against customs and traditions, alongside increasing reliance on artificial intelligence technologies in Arab media. Meanwhile, Dosari affirmed Saudi Arabia's keenness on strengthening media cooperation with Egypt, noting that Egyptian-Saudi ties are historically unique.
