The two highest remaining seeds in the NCAA Tournament met in the College World Series on Saturday night when LSU baseball met Arkansas. LSU ace Kade Anderson shut down the Razorbacks and led the Tigers to a 4-1 victory.
As the lower seed, LSU was the visiting team. Both teams worked through a scoreless first inning before LSU got on the board in the top of the second inning. The Tigers plated three runs in the top of the second as Chris Stanfield hit an RBI single, a pitch with the bases loaded hit Michael Braswell III, and Josh Pearson reached on a fielder's choice to make it 3-0.
After that, Kade Anderson and the LSU defense would go to work. The Tigers rolled a couple of nice double plays to get LSU out of a few innings. The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when a solo shot from Arkansas would cut the lead to 3-1.

In the top of the eighth inning, LSU got an insurance run as Derek Curiel hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 4-1 Tigers as we headed to the bottom of the eighth inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Razorbacks started the inning with a single, and Anderson was pulled from the game. His day was finished after seven full innings of work. He gave up one run on three hits, seven strikeouts, and two walks. Chase Shores would enter to pitch for him. Shores then retired all three hitters he faced, and we headed to the ninth inning with LSU leading 4-1.
Casan Evans entered to pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Tigers looked to close it out. Evans got out of the inning unscathed, and the Tigers won 4-1.
LSU advances in the winner's bracket to play UCLA on Monday night at 6 p.m. CT.

Tigers' Tarik Skubal Sparks MVP, Cy Young Talk With Incredible 3-Game Stretch
Tigers' Tarik Skubal Sparks MVP, Cy Young Talk With Incredible 3-Game Stretch originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Tigers got back on a winning track Thursday night with a 4-1 win over the Orioles in Baltimore that included a masterful performance from ace Tarik Skubal followed by an inning each from Tommy Kahnle and Will Vest. Advertisement Skubal's seven-inning shutdown performance was the culmination of an incredible three-game stretch that has amped up talks of a second consecutive Cy Young for the Tigers superstar headed toward the All-Star Break. The Tigers have now won five of their last nine games, a solid but unspectacular stretch that the team will look to build upon this coming weekend. On Thursday night, fans couldn't stop talking about Skubal. Tarik Skubal throws against the Orioles on Thursday. © Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images "Ladies and gentlemen, TAARIK SKUBAL," MLB wrote on X. "His last 4 stars: 30.2IP 1 ER 0.29 ERA 32/2 K/BB," they added, detailing Skubal's incredible three-game stretch. The Tigers star pitched seven scoreless innings on Thursday, giving up three hits and striking out six batters as his run of dominance continued. "That Skubal guy is pretty good at baseball!" one fan said. Advertisement "If (Yankees star Aaron) Judge wasn't so good, he'd have a shot at MVP," another said. "Just give him Cy Young," another added. Skubal's forthcoming contract extension has become a hot topic lately. One fan clamored for the Tigers to give their ace a "blank check" for his recent efforts. Another fan called his performances "insane." "Newsflash to any AL pitcher other than Skubal thinking they can win the Cy Young. You can't," another fan said on X as the comments continued to pour in. Tigers Make Move on Relief Pitcher After Rough Outing vs. Reds
Tigers Make Move on Relief Pitcher After Rough Outing vs. Reds originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Tigers dropped their second game in three tries against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday by a score of 8-4, their second loss in a row to manager Terry Francona's team. Advertisement Detroit has not played up to expectations recently amid the loss of talented pitcher Jackson Jobe to injury. Saturday's home game against the Reds included a rough performance by the bullpen in an 11-1 loss that caused Detroit's front office and coaching staff to begin reevaluating things. News broke Sunday on a relief pitcher who struggled during Saturday's loss, prompting a change of heart by the Tigers' brass. John Brebbia pitches on June 7 at Comerica Park in Detroit. © Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images Detroit announced pitcher John Brebbia was optioned to Triple-A Toledo, making room for relief pitcher Tyler Owens on the roster. Brebbia ceded three earned runs on 22 pitches in a single inning of work on Saturday, prompting the change. Advertisement The Boston, Massachusetts native compiled a rough ERA of 7.71 this season including 20 strikeouts in 18.2 innings on the mound. Owens, a former Atlanta Braves draft selection, has struggled with the Mud Hens this season compiling an ERA of 5.74 while striking out 23 batters and giving up four home runs and 30 hits in 26.2 innings. The Tigers could soon find themselves as buyers for bullpen help by the time the July 31 MLB trade deadline rolls around, especially in light of Jobe's recent injury.
