Claressa Shields-Laila Ali: Will the GWOAT and Muhammad Ali's daughter finally fight?
Shields is never short of confidence, and that is hardly a surprise given what she has already achieved in her career at the age of 30.
The American superstar won two Olympic golds and two World Championship titles as an amateur and has claimed world honours in five different weight divisions since switching to the professional ranks.
She is also the only boxer – male or female – to be the undisputed champion in three different weight classes. It is hard to see what else she can do to further her legacy, which begs the question: if she gets past Daniels, what's next?
Well, the outspoken Shields has talked up a super-fight with Laila Ali – the daughter of boxing icon Muhammad Ali. But is it realistic?

Ali's inactivity
Laila followed in her father's footsteps to win titles in two divisions during her own career before retiring undefeated with 24 wins to her name, including 21 knockouts.
She is widely regarded as one of the best female fighters ever. There's just one issue – she has not boxed since 2007.
Ali is now 47 and has been retired for almost two decades. In the meantime, she has developed into a TV personality, appearing on some of America's biggest shows including Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer.
Yet she has remained in tip-top condition since hanging up her gloves and has teased a dramatic comeback to take on Shields.
Shields calls Ali's bluff
In order to make a return, Ali has made it clear she wants to be paid well. She recently claimed it would take a purse of $15million to tempt her back into the ring for the Shields showdown.
Shields responded by posing with a cheque displaying that figure to make a statement that she wants to do everything possible to get the fight made.
But Ali has been talking about this fight for several years and it hasn't materialised yet.
Back in 2020, she insisted a bout with Shields was 'absolutely possible' but conceded she would no longer be the same force she was in her prime.
Five years down the line, Ali is unlikely to be in better shape, and the window is closing on finally making this fight happen.
Shields has family plans
Shields revealed this week that she wants to have a baby within the next 12 months as she looks to start a family.
She plans to return to boxing after giving birth, but having a child would keep her out of the sport for a significant period.
If she goes through with her family plans next year, the timeline to face Ali becomes very limited.
It would have to happen next as Ali would be pushing 50 by the time Shields came back into the sport.
Pacquiao shows Ali the way
If Ali needed any inspiration for a comeback, she need look no further than Manny Pacquiao 's performance last weekend.
Pacquiao returned from a four-year absence to push WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios all the way to a majority draw in Las Vegas.
The Filipino legend is 46 and proved fighters can make successful comebacks after a lengthy hiatus.
Of course, there is a big difference between being away from boxing for four years and the 18 years it has been since Ali last laced up her gloves.
Ali would have a lot of ring-rust to shake off and must decide whether she really wants to risk her unbeaten record against Shields after being retired for so long.
Will Shields vs Ali happen?
Shields likes to put on a show, but she is running out of legitimate opponents. Calling out an all-time great with a legendary father is certainly a smart business move on her part.
Ali also seems to be on board if the funds can be raised to give her a career-best payday.
And that's ultimately what it may all hinge on – money. There would be plenty of interest in two greats of the sport facing each other, with fans eager to see if Ali has still got it.
There is also genuine animosity between the pair, meaning the build-up to the fight would be electric.
If promoters can get together and ensure both women are paid well, we could finally see Shields vs Ali, and someone's 0 would have to go.

Hojlund's fight to answer Man Utd's striker question
Rasmus Hojlund is about to face a match at the stadium that will host next year's World Cup United's friendly with West Ham at MetLife Stadium, in the grand scheme of things, is nowhere near as big a deal. But for the Danish striker, it's crucial.A crowd approaching 50,000 is anticipated for United's opening game in the four-team Premier League Summer Series on Saturday evening, just west of New York performance could determine whether head coach Ruben Amorim keeps faith with him as United's attacking have spent more than £120m on forward players this summer - but three weeks before the start of the new Premier League season, do not have the number nine many informed observers believe they are desperate were frustrated in their efforts to sign Liam Delap - who left Ipswich for Chelsea instead. And on Friday, Amorim hinted Hojlund remains his first choice for the he up to the task? In May, United finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst final placing since relegation from the top flight in 1974. A Europa League final defeat by Tottenham compounded the improvement has to come - Amorim accepts as for that to happen, his side must score more goals. They managed only 44 in the league last week before last, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe met chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox in Iceland. It is probably fair to assume the centre-forward position was there is no doubt they wanted Delap. United have been targeting the domestic market because Amorim is keen to add players who do not need time to adapt to the Premier League. But Chelsea sealed the then, the names of numerous alternatives have been advanced. Viktor Gyokeres was thought of as a target from the moment Amorim was appointed, given how successful the pair were together at Sporting after the 27-year-old had impressed in the Championship with Gyokeres is heading to Jackson's name keeps being mentioned in connection with United. There have been conversations about the Chelsea forward, but not to the point where it has looked as if United might try to buy Villa quickly shut down a link to their forward Ollie Watkins, letting it be known they have no interest in selling. Could United put that to the test?Watkins is an interesting case because he slipped down the pecking order at Villa when Marcus Rashford - unwanted by Amorim - arrived on a more expensive Watkins, 29, who has scored 75 goals in 184 Premier League games be a better option that a cheaper Jackson, who has been excellent and erratic at Chelsea, often both in the same game? Man Utd to need to raise funds Former Everton striker Moise Kean, who re-established his reputation in Serie A with Fiorentina, Randal Kolo Muani, back at Paris St-Germain and unwanted after a loan spell with Juventus, and Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta are all likely to be same is true of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, although Newcastle is a more likely destination for the there are the wildcard options - out-of-contract forwards such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie none of these options come without risk. And for United, funds are limited and there are so many weaknesses to referred to the need for more energy in midfield after last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Leeds in didn't mention the additional issues, but others have: Goalkeeper, central defence, the right-sided wing-back role. The list goes all of this can be dealt with in a single transfer window. It is quite possible 12 months from now, if he is still in post, Amorim will still be looking to address flaws that exist now, as well as those that emerge in the coming are precious and United need to raise might have generated around £30m this summer through sell-ons being activated for Alvaro Carreras, who has left Benfica for Real Madrid, Anthony Elanga joining Newcastle and Maxi Oyedele moving to Strasbourg - plus the covering of Rashford's wages for the season by his loan move to Barcelona - but more needs to be was one of five unwanted players effectively cast out of the first-team picture by Amorim - the other four being Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. More money could be generated by selling those four - but Amorim has warned that they won't be allowed to leave on the is a player capable of generating a sizeable fee - albeit not the £60m United went into the summer hoping for. He may be pivotal, especially if Chelsea go back for a player they were close to signing in for now, Amorim has to maximise what he has. The case for sticking with Hojlund Against Leeds in Sweden, 18-year-old Chido Obi started. But the former Arsenal youngster currently appears to be an impact took over for the second half. As usual, he worked hard enough, didn't receive the service a centre-forward would want and did his best for the as usual, he didn't score. He has scored 26 goals in 95 competitive appearances over two years at United - just over a goal every four numbers are not terrible. But they include a run of five goals in four games last season and eight in eight the campaign before. Statistics can be manipulated to suit any argument - but if those two sequences are taken out, what is left is 13 goals in 83 appearances, or more than six games for every goal. That is clearly not good question is whether Hojlund can extend the more productive spells or if they are distorting the overall Friday, Amorim gave the impression he has not given up on the 22-year-old, who cost United £72m when they bought him from Serie A outfit Atalanta in his opening media engagement of the summer in Chicago, United's head coach made a couple of significant he insisted he would be happy to go into the new season with his current squad. In truth, he couldn't say anything else given there are no guarantees of further he confirmed his belief that his attacking reinforcements, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, could both operate as a spearhead in addition to the number 10 roles they appear best suited it was towards the end of a long unrelated answer, in connection to captain Bruno Fernandes, that Amorim might have given an indication about his coach wants Fernandes to operate deeper, away from those two prized number 10 spots. He thinks the Portuguese can cause more damage that way because he won't be marked as tightly."If you have the threat of players; of Rasmus, Matheus and Brian, in the space and a player with Bruno's quality on the ball, it's really important," he can change course quickly at Old Trafford but at the very least, the namecheck suggested Hojlund is likely to get some time on the pitch with Cunha, Mbeumo and Fernandes at the MetLife and if he finds a spark across a trio of pre-season fixtures against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton over the next nine days, it may cause United's hierarchy to pause and a greater or lesser degree, the search for a striker has been a feature of their Hojlund prove he is the answer after all?

'Nolan may be the only person who could do this': How The Odyssey is already gunning to be 2026's biggest film
Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey has taken the unusual step of selling some tickets a year early. Is it a way forward for beleaguered studios – or just a stunt? Marketing campaigns for summer blockbusters have traditionally kicked in around six months before release. But one film not playing by these rules is Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, his much-discussed take on Homer's epic, starring Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o and many more. Earlier this month, more than a year in advance of its 17 July general release date, a teaser trailer started showing in cinemas. And then on 17 July itself, in an unprecedented move, tickets went on sale for opening weekend screenings in Imax 70mm – Nolan's preferred format for all his films. Less than a day after those tickets were made available, most of them were sold out, and scalpers were reselling them for upwards of $200 (£148). It's a testament to Nolan's remarkable pulling power that he, along with Imax and Universal Pictures, has been able to get audiences flocking to buy tickets for a film this far in advance, when it hasn't even finished shooting yet. And specifically, he's got fans excited about seeing it in 70mm – a traditional large-scale film stock known for providing a matchless visual experience, which was developed in the 1950s and has been making a comeback in recent years thanks to filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler. Earlier this year, Coogler urged people to see his hit vampire thriller Sinners in this same film gauge – but without the dramatically-timed ticket release to boot. Indeed, entertainment journalist Tatyana Arrington thinks that the success of Imax screenings of Sinners may have played into the thinking behind The Odyssey's unique sales strategy. "I feel like there was such a charge for [Imax screenings of Sinners] that Hollywood couldn't help but see the success of that," she tells the BBC. "And with [The Odyssey] being a film that everybody's looking forward to, [the team behind it must have thought] 'how can we maximize on that even further?'" This latest strategy slots into Nolan's ongoing mission to encourage audiences into cinemas by making films into a real event. And The Odyssey has a winning combination – of huge star power and a universally recognised story – that motivates people to make that happen. As Arrington says: "The kids like Zendaya. The older generation likes Matt Damon. This person likes Lupita. There's something for everybody. A lot of people are into Greek mythology." It comes at a time when theatrical revenues have been on the slide; last year's US and Canada box office total was 23% down from 2019. The pandemic and the Hollywood strikes have played their part in that, but there is also the rise of the streaming platforms, and the fact that many films are now made available to stream mere weeks after opening in cinemas. "Studios need to consider creative marketing solutions to hype up film releases because they are competing against not only other media content and formats but changing consumers with shortened attention spans," Sanjay Singh, founder of film studio Nukhu, tells the BBC. It's about the best way to get distracted audiences to, as Singh puts it, "take action and engage". The issues with the strategy But could any other films replicate such a long-tail release strategy or is Nolan, and the excitement around his films, an anomaly? "I feel like Nolan may be the only person who could get this sort of one-year-in-advance ticket sellout type of deal," Nolan fan and Chicago-based moviegoer Jack Cunningham tells the BBC. "I just don't see that happening with any other film-makers." There's also an issue of Nolan and other film-makers championing the high-quality viewing experience in Imax 70mm, when accessibility to that format is still so limited; there are currently only 16 cinemas across the US that have the required equipment. Indeed, certain markets don't even have access to a cinema to see a film whether it's in Imax 70mm or not. That was highlighted earlier this year when audiences in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where Sinners was set, didn't have an opportunity to see the film in their own town, until a viral call led to a special screening with Coogler in attendance. Additionally, ticket prices for Imax and Imax 70mm screenings are significantly higher, which can make the emphasis on them for creating buzz feel exclusionary – and that's before taking into account, in this case, ticket reselling by scalpers at exorbitant prices. According to Singh, that's one of the key issues with this type of ticket rollout right now, should it be used going forward. "If Imax doesn't use this data to expand [its network of screens], by selling tickets this far in advance, there's the potential for a reseller market to be created, which could cause early release ticket prices to skyrocket," he says. More like this:• The Fantastic Four is 'pleasant enough'• The K-pop film that swept the world• Why original kids' films are flopping Even some Nolan fans are not convinced by this buzz-making sales move. Cunningham has been happy to travel three hours to Indianapolis (the nearest Imax theatre to him) in the past to see three of the director's previous movies – Tenet, Interstellar and Oppenheimer – in 70mm. But he wasn't interested in picking up Odyssey tickets now, calling it a "marketing stunt". "The general premise of having to think about where I'm going to be in a whole calendar year to buy tickets to a film is just kind of ridiculous," he says. And while The Odyssey ticket rollout has become a success, Arrington says that it's unlikely that it's a sign of what's to come for the Hollywood blockbuster. "I don't think it's going to happen for every movie," she says, "because every movie is just simply not good." Kyle Schwarber, Phillies shoot for another win over Yankees
July 26 - Kyle Schwarber earned MVP honors for hitting three homers in the swing-off at the All-Star Game. In the first week since the All-Star break, Schwarber is still rolling, and the slugger will attempt to continue his power surge Saturday afternoon when the Philadelphia Phillies visit the New York Yankees. Schwarber hit a pair of two-run homers Friday night as Philadelphia opened the three-game series with an 12-5 victory. Schwarber notched his 35th and 36th homers by hitting a tying shot in the fifth off New York rookie Will Warren and a drive off Ian Hamilton in the eighth. Schwarber finished with his second multi-homer game of the year, and he has six homers in seven games since the break. It was also his fourth three-hit game this season. Schwarber is 10-for-29 (.345) since the break and reached 1,000 career hits with his first homer of the Friday game. "I don't know where we'd be without him," Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson said. "Comes up with big hit after big hit after big hit. It's just -- it's amazing." The Phillies also got a tiebreaking three-run homer from J.T. Realmuto in the seventh inning. The catcher is batting .388 (26-for-67) in his past 16 games. The Yankees are 3-6 in their past nine games since Cody Bellinger hit three homers in an 11-0 rout of the Chicago Cubs on July 11. New York committed two more errors on Friday, giving the team nine in the past four games. Paul Goldschmidt committed a throwing error at first base two pitches before Luke Weaver allowed Realmuto's homer. Bellinger, Austin Wells, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Volpe homered, but the Yankees saw their bullpen allow 10 runs in four innings. The New York pitching staff owns a major-league-worst 6.20 ERA in July. "The easy thing is to just play better," Goldschmidt said. "Mistakes like I made tonight. Other mistakes we've made, we've got to cut those down. Those are conversations that we're having and trying to do, but we've made a few too many mistakes." The Yankees hope to improve their defense when Ryan McMahon debuts at third base after being acquired from the Colorado Rockies. Ranger Suarez (7-4, 2.66 ERA), who is 0-2 with a 5.62 ERA in his past three starts, will start for the Phillies on Saturday. Suarez allowed three runs or fewer in 12 consecutive starts before giving up six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings during an 8-2 home loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Suarez is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career appearances against the Yankees, both in relief in 2021. Schwarber is 3-for-14 (.214) off New York's scheduled Saturday starter, Marcus Stroman (2-1, 5.64). Stroman is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts since returning from a two-month absence caused by left knee inflammation. Stroman produced his best outing of the year when he allowed one run on five hits in a season-high six innings during a 4-2 win at Atlanta on Sunday. He threw a season-high 95 pitches. Stroman is 6-4 with a 2.26 ERA in 13 appearances (11 starts) against Philadelphia, having limited the Phillies to two runs or fewer 11 times. --Field Level Media
