Coronation Street star makes return to ITV soap 15 years after exit in new role
Coronation Street star Reece Dinsdale is returning to the ITV soap after 15 years, but not in the role you expect.
Dinsdale originally played Gail Platt's fourth husband, Joe McIntyre, and left the soap after his character's death.
The actor was on Corrie for two years before leaving in 2010 when he left the cobbles and later moved to a role on fellow ITV soap, Emmerdale as Paul Ashdale.
Now, Dinsdale is returning to Coronation Street after 15 years away, despite his original character dying, for a new role.
Don't shoot the messenger! We're back tonight at 9pm on ITV1, but don't worry if that's past your bedtime, you can stream tonight's episode now on ITVX! 👌 @ITV @ITVX @WeAreSTV #Corrie pic.twitter.com/PY5aO2tU2e

Joe died on Corrie after he tried to fake his death to claim insurance money; however, his plans went wrong, and he saw the character really die.
Now, Reece is making his way back to the cobbled streets, but this time he's taken a role behind the camera.
As the actor will be directing four episodes of Coronation Street, according to The Sun.
Taking to the social media platform BlueSky, to share the news, Reece said: "For those of you who enjoy these things, my next four episodes (as Director) of Coronation Street will be shown tonight and on Friday.
"I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I did making them."

Stephen Mulhern makes unprecedented blunder on ITV's Catchphrase
Game show host Stephen Mulhern sent celebrity contestants into hysterics with a rare blunder while hosting ITV's Catchphrase. The show, which asks contestants to identify a well-known phrase or idiom based on a short animated clip, featured Jeremy Vine, Charlie Hedges and comedian Luke Kempner on the latest episode. At one point, a clip was shown depicting pastries with escalating price tags, which are then shown bursting through the roof of the building. Narrating the clip in an effort to encourage answers, Mulhern remarked: 'Literally, the prices have gone through the roof!' However, he quickly realised that he had given away the answer in its entirety. 'Sorry, what? Was that the answer?' said Jeremy Vine, after buzzing in. 😱 @StephenMulhern makes a HUGE mistake - for the first time in 10 years! — Catchphrase (@Catchphrase) June 7, 2025 "I have never in my life done that. In 10 years!" Mulhern said, with his head in his hands. 'I was just thinking 'this is a very tricky one, if it's not that!' added Kempner, who then joked that Mulhern had taken his prize money tally up to £200. Vine remarked that the incident represented 'a bit of Catchphrase history'. Catchphrase first began in 1986 and was hosted by Irish comedian Roy Walker. He was succeeded by Nick Weir in 2000, and Mark Curry in 2002 before the series was cancelled that year. Mulhern began hosting the revival in 2012, which initially involved members of the public as contestants. Since 2018, the programme has featured celebrity contestants, who compete to win money for charity. Celebrity Catchphrase was recently renewed for an 11th series on ITV. ITV commissioner Gemma John-Lewis said: 'We're delighted to announce a further series of the much-loved family favourite, Celebrity Catchphrase. 'The only show where you say what you see, the hugely popular series continues to win legions of fans and with Stephen's infectious and playful humour it's a firm favourite with our viewers.'

Watch now! Twisted thriller branded "quirky and bingeable" gets new UK streaming home
The Consultant, the "quirky and bingeable" thriller starring Christoph Waltz, has found a new streaming home in the UK. The series, originally released on Prime Video in 2023, sees the two-time Academy Award winner play Regus Patoff, a "mysterious" consultant who takes charge of a mobile gaming company following an "unspeakable" tragedy. Based on Bentley Little's 2015 novel of the same name, The Consultant has now found a new streaming home in addition to Prime Video, with all eight episodes of the series being added to ITVX in the UK this weekend. Billed as a "twisted comedic-thriller", The Consultant explores the "sinister relationship between boss and employee," the latter of whom begin to fear for their lives after Regus imposes "new demands and challenges" on the company. Co-starring Aimee Carrero and Brittany O'Grady, the series received generally positive reviews from critics upon its release, with the thriller currently possessing an approval rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes from 44 reviews. Related: Despite noting its "lack of depth", the site's critical consensus said that the "diverting twists" and "slick presentation", in tandem with Waltz's "menacing charm", helped to "compensate" for its shortcomings. The Australian described the series as "quirky and bingeable" as they lauded the performances of Waltz and O'Grady, while The Wrap dubbed it a "solid addition to the horror genre" and an "interesting take on corporate culture". Related: "The Consultant is as fast-paced as it is darkly comic, mixing corporate satire and moral dilemmas," wrote TV Guide as they called it simultaneously "clever and ridiculous", while USA Today said the series was "macabre, twisty and just a little bit twisted". "This bonkers comedy-thriller burnishes the familiar deal-with-the-devil conceit with chipper, unapologetic cynicism," wrote Entertainment Weekly as they praised the "appealing" performances, while Variety described the show as an "engaging watch". Coronation Street reveals first look at Platt house changes as Maria and Lou clash
spoilers follow. Coronation Street has revealed a first look at the changes to the Platt house as the tension between Maria Connor and Lou Michaelis escalates. The iconic house was destroyed back in February as the ITV soap introduced a dramatic storyline, with the property being engulfed in flames after a mystery arsonist pushed a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox. After a brief whodunnit storyline, it was eventually revealed that Max Turner was the hooded individual who had set fire to the house, with the teenager reasoning that a potential insurance pay-out would alleviate David's financial worries. Months on from the drama, which saw Max imprisoned for six and a half years, the iconic house at No.8 has been steadily rebuilt, with the new-look style set to be unveiled in next week's scenes. Related: In a new teaser clip, viewers can see the renovated house in all its glory, with the interior design boasting darker colours than before. The wall between the living room and the kitchen looks to have been removed, making for a tad more space. The teaser also depicts the growing tension between Maria and Lou, who had previously worked together at the salon before the latter was sacked. Reeling from the loss of her job, Lou later shared a drink with Maria's husband Gary, enraging Maria even further. In Friday's (13 June) scenes, which are shown in the clip, both Maria and Lou are invited to the Platt household to celebrate the rebuilding, with several Weatherfield residents gathering for a barbecue. Related: Lou begins to rummage around in somebody's belongings, briefly considering stealing a wad of cash before coming to her senses. Maria, however, comes in at the wrong time, demanding Lou empty her pockets as she brands her a "thieving cow". "You can't tell me what to do," responds Lou, who promptly tries to leave. Maria isn't having any of it, however, as she remains adamant that her adversary has stolen something. The pair begin to grapple, but what will the consequences be? Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
