New comedy podcast explores 'surreal' fictional history of Pembrokeshire town

Yahoo09-05-2025
A new comedy podcast has launched, exploring the surreal fictional history of Haverfordwest.
Harford: An Oral History is written and performed by comedy writer Dan Hooper.
The series, which began on February 20, presents a unique take on the town's past through the eyes of its inhabitants.
Each episode is a monologue exploring a different chapter of Haverfordwest's history, from an unsuccessful attempt to build the world's tallest building in the small town to a battle re-enactment that turned into a real conflict.
The stories are accompanied by experimental music to enhance the surreal experience.
The 10-15 minute episodes offer a break from the typical chat format, appealing to fans of absurd, surreal humour.
Mr Hooper said: "My aim was to create something layered and strange—like stumbling onto a late-night radio broadcast.
"I didn't want this podcast to follow the usual chat or interview format.
"Growing up in '90s Haverfordwest, it felt like nothing exciting ever happened.
"This podcast aims to change that, even if none of it is true."
Mr Hooper is an accomplished comedy writer and performer, having written for flagship BBC Radio 4 programmes such as The News Quiz, The Now Show, and The Show What You Wrote.
He was shortlisted for the BBC Wales New Drama award in 2017 and was a semi-finalist for the 2022 Nobbs Memorial Trust.
Harford: An Oral History is available to listen to now.

Turner recently posted several photos and a video of herself having fun at an Oasis concert on Instagram. However, one commenter didn't seem pleased with the star's post. 'Lmfao i think she has forgotten that she has two kids,' the person wrote in a comment shared on Thursday, Aug. 7. Turner personally responded to the comment the same day, writing, 'ah I'm so sorry sometimes I forget some people can't think for themselves.' She added, 'So…. Get this….There's this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day.' Fans were also quick to come to Turner's defense in the post's comments section. 'Babe…she's [allowed] to go out,' one person said. 'Lmfao that you think concert venues should operate a no parents policy 🤦‍♀️😆,' added someone else. 'Would you say this to Joe?' asked someone else, referring to Turner's ex-husband and the father of her two children, Joe Jonas. Turner shares daughters Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3, with Jonas. The former couple divorced in September 2024 after tying the knot in 2019. While Turner has been open about her 'incredibly sad' split from Jonas, 35, the pair have also seemingly found their footing as collaborative co-parents. 'There's a mutual respect [between them] now, and the girls are their priority,' a source told PEOPLE in July. 'Joe and Sophie have hit a surprisingly peaceful groove, and they've maintained an amicable relationship from two continents, which isn't easy, but they've managed to pull it off,' the source added, referring to the fact that Turner now lives in her home country of England. For his part, Jonas recently gave insight into his co-parenting relationship with Turner during Jay Shetty's On Purpose Live Tour in Hollywood, Fla.
