Former England batter Jonathan Trott pinpointed the lack of support for
Jasprit Bumrah
as a key factor in India's struggles.
Poll
Do you think India can overcome the deficit in the final two days of the Test?
Yes, they can turn it around
No, it's unlikely
It depends on the weather
'Bumrah's areas were pretty good, and his economy reflects that — he was just a bit unlucky. But the bigger issue is pressure from both ends,' Trott said on JioHotstar.
'He benefits massively when there's support at the other end, and that wasn't the case today. When you're slightly under par as a bowling unit — like India were — control from both ends becomes crucial.'
Manchester weather forecast - Rain, chilly winds in store on Day 4 and Day 5
Despite Bumrah's efforts — possibly in his final Test of the series due to workload management — India's seamers collectively bowled 83 overs for just three wickets, while spin accounted for four in just 52 overs. Trott questioned India's bowling combination, especially the delay in bringing on
Washington Sundar
and the absence of injured pacer Akash Deep.

On India captain
Shubman Gill
's maiden tour as skipper, Trott was sympathetic but realistic.
'Shubman is on his first trip to England and has been thrown into the deep end as captain. He fought well in the first three Tests, but this match feels slightly beyond India considering the challenges and limited resources.'
Why India played wrong team for Manchester Test; Kuldeep Yadav missed!
Trott also praised Root's batting evolution, noting how he's found a balance between Bazball flair and traditional technique: 'He experimented early on with ramps and reverse scoops, but he's settled now.
His game is solid and adaptable. He's stuck to what works.'
Meanwhile,
Sanjay Manjrekar
urged India to keep fighting and look for positives.
'India won't think of a draw. If the sun stays out, they'll look to score big and flip the pressure. But the surface is showing signs of uneven bounce — that could be a factor,' Manjrekar noted.

ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant provides update on foot injury, to begin rehab soon
India vice-captain Rishabh Pant has provided an update on his foot injury after being ruled out of the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batter took to social media on Sunday to thank fans for their support and confirmed that he will begin rehabilitation once the fracture in his right foot heals."Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%," Pant wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love." advertisement Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester after inside-edging a reverse sweep from Chris Woakes onto his foot while batting on 37. He immediately collapsed in pain, prompting medical staff to rush onto the field. He was taken off on a golf cart and later scans confirmed a fracture that has ruled him out for at least six despite the injury, Pant returned to bat the next day. Limping and in visible discomfort, he not only completed his half-century but helped India cross the 350-run mark. He was even willing to bat again in the second innings if required, but Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja ensured it wasn't necessary, guiding India to a gritty draw and keeping the series Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday confirmed Pant's absence from the fifth and final Test, which will be played at The Oval from July 31. Sunil Gavaskar Blasts Ben Stokes And Co For 'Sarcastic' Act: "Not Being Mature..."
The fourth India vs England Test was not away from controversy. A huge debatable moment occured when England captain Ben Stokes offered for a draw with 15 overs left in the Manchester Test but India declined it with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar both batting in their eighties. The visitors waited for both the batters to smash their respective centuries before the match could be ended early. Since, England didn't want to bowl the final 15 overs, their players didn't acknowledge the achievements of Jadeja and Sundar when the players touched the three-figure mark. The attitude of England players disappointed Gavaskar, who blasted the side. "A majority of the England players not to be clapping when their hundreds were achieved doesn't really reflect well because they have to acknowledge the 80 plus that both of them scored. I know in modern day cricket, those kind of things are looked down upon as not being manly enough or not being mature enough to acknowledge another sportsperson's superiority. I can understand if Ben Stokes or Joe Root were little sarcastic about it but none of the others in this England team have scored enough hundreds to be sarcastic about the other batters looking to get their hundreds," said Gavaskar on Sony Sports. Drama unfolded in the high-intensity Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on Sunday after Indian batters Jadeja and Sundar refused England skipper Stokes' offer to call off the fourth Test and settle for a draw before the start of the final hour of play. There is a provision that allows both captains to shake hands and agree to a draw if they feel that the possibility of a result is impossible. Having worked hard to earn a creditable draw, Jadeja and Washington, flatly refused Stokes' offer after he had approached the umpire, which irked the England skipper no end. With both approaching their hundreds after having saved the match for India who started their second innings 311 runs in arrears, Jadeja and Washington exercised their rights to continue batting. India coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Shubman Gill backed the decision to carry on batting.
