ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant provides update on foot injury, to begin rehab soon

India Today20 hours ago
India vice-captain Rishabh Pant has provided an update on his foot injury after being ruled out of the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batter took to social media on Sunday to thank fans for their support and confirmed that he will begin rehabilitation once the fracture in his right foot heals."Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%," Pant wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love." advertisement
Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester after inside-edging a reverse sweep from Chris Woakes onto his foot while batting on 37. He immediately collapsed in pain, prompting medical staff to rush onto the field. He was taken off on a golf cart and later scans confirmed a fracture that has ruled him out for at least six weeks.Remarkably, despite the injury, Pant returned to bat the next day. Limping and in visible discomfort, he not only completed his half-century but helped India cross the 350-run mark. He was even willing to bat again in the second innings if required, but Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja ensured it wasn't necessary, guiding India to a gritty draw and keeping the series alive. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday confirmed Pant's absence from the fifth and final Test, which will be played at The Oval from July 31. "The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," read the board's statement.Pant has been among India's standout performers in the series, scoring 479 runs in seven innings, including twin centuries in the series opener at Headingley. He also showed immense resilience at Lord's, where he struck a gritty 74 in the first innings despite being hit on the hand by a Jasprit Bumrah delivery while standing up to the stumps. With Pant unavailable, Dhruv Jurel will take over wicketkeeping duties for the final Test. The selectors have also named Narayan Jagadeesan as Pant's replacement in the squad.- EndsTune InYou May Also Like

Ben Stokes vs Ravindra Jadeja: Kapil Dev Settles Better All-Rounder Debate

Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev praised England captain Ben Stokes but claimed that as an all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja is ahead of him. Stokes is currently on the verge of achieving a rare feat by completing 7000 runs and 200 wickets in Test cricket. However, Kapil did not acknowledge him as the best all-rounder of this generation and instead, opted for Jadeja. While Stokes is just few runs away from completing 7000 runs, Jadeja has scored 3697 runs and taken 326 wickets in the format. "I don't want to compare. Stokes is a good all-rounder, but I still feel Jadeja is ahead. He is performing far better," Kapil said at the event as quoted by India Today. Kapil also backed India skipper Shubman Gill and said that he should be given time to prove his mettle. With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match series against England, many have questioned Gill's leadership but Kapil said that this is a young India team and it will take time to adjust under the new captain. 'Give him time. This is his first series; he will commit mistakes, and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn,' Kapil said. 'This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play, and in the coming days, these players will win. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust,' the former India captain added. Kapil shared his views on fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, saying that he never thought that the spearhead would survive so much time in Test cricket with such a difficult bowling action. Bumrah featured in the first and the third Tests, enchanted the spectators with his threatening spells, but India lost both fixtures. With two Tests left, India is trailing in the five-match series by 1-2, and Bumrah is currently playing in the ongoing fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. He is likely to miss the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, which will be played at London's Kennington Oval from July 31 to August 4. Speaking on Bumrah workload management, Kapil Dev told the media, "...The times have changed; their bodies are different, and they work differently, so it's hard to judge one person. Yes, he is one of the finest bowlers. We never thought he would play for such a long time because he put so much stress on his body. Still, he is contributing to the team. Hats off to him. As a spectator and a lover of the game, I would say that he shouldn't retire at all, but everyone has to go one day."

'Couple Of Bowlers...': Ajinkya Rahane Points Out India's Concern Ahead Of Oval Test

Ajinkya Rahane reckons that Indian batting unit has been fantastic, but the bowling department remains a concern. India's eventful tour of England is coming to an end with one Test to go in what has been a hard-fought series so far. England took a 1-0 lead in Leeds before India hit back with a record win at Edgbaston. Lord's saw India falling agonisingly short of the target as their hosts reclaimed the lead before the visitors put up a memorable fight in Manchester to secure a draw. India now have their eyes set on winning in the fifth Test, slated to start from Thursday at The Oval in London, and return home having drawn the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. While their batters have flourished with the likes of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja leading the charge, the bowling unit has been dependent on a couple of bowlers feels Ajinkya Rahane citing lack of support from others. 'The India team is playing really good cricket, especially the batting unit has been fantastic throughout the last four Test matches. What concerns the Indian team is the bowling department. A couple of bowlers are bowling well, but they are not getting the support. Apart from that we are playing really good, positive cricket and it's very good to see," Rahane said on his YouTube channel. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have 28 wickets between them in the series so far and have been their leading bowlers. Others have tasted limited success including Akash Deep who took a 10-wicket match haul in Birmingham but managed just one wicket at Lord's. A groin injury then kept him out of the fourth Test with Anshul Kamboj making an unremarkable debut in Manchester. Prasidh Krishna was dropped after proving expensive in the opening two Tests while picking up six wickets. India will now have to make the decision of whether to ask Bumrah to play one more Test or rest him having already played three matches as planned. Rahane feels that the short gap between the fourth and fifth Tests will be a challenge for the fast bowlers. '…it is really challenging when you have three-four day break after one Test match and then you're going to play another match – recovery is really important. All the fast bowlers, I'm sure, they are aware about the recovery factor you know preparation wise I'm sure they are preparing themselves really well for the test match. I think next 2-3 days will be really crucial from recovery point of view. So I'm sure they will take care of their body and mind as well," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Dale Steyn slams Washington Sundar - Ravindra Jadeja for chasing ‘free milestones', backs Ben Stokes in handshake row

A new-look Team India fought their way through the last two days of the Manchester Test to secure a draw and keep the five-match series alive going into the Oval. While there was plenty of talk about the grit and determination shown by the Indian batters, a fresh controversy emerged in the final hour of play on Day 5 when English skipper Ben Stokes offered to end the game with a handshake, only for the Indian batters to refuse as they were closing in on their respective centuries. After Stokes' offer was turned down, the English captain tried to persuade Ravindra Jadeja by asking if he really wanted to score a century against the likes of Harry Brook and Ben Duckett. Zak Crawley also jumped into the exchange, urging Jadeja to shake hands with Stokes and leave the field. While much of the cricketing fraternity—including former England captains Alastair Cook and Nasser Hussain—backed India's decision to keep batting, others criticised the move as going against the 'spirit of the game'. Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn has now weighed in on the debate, siding with the English camp and accusing Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja of chasing 'free milestones.' He said their decision to continue batting was not the most gentlemanly thing to do. Steyn was replying to a post by Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Why is there such a big deal being made about the Indians choosing not to accept the offer to end the game in a draw immediately? The offer was made. The offer was rejected, and they were fully entitled to make their choice. They got their 100s, which they worked hard for. Game over," Steyn replied to that post stating, 'Shamo this onion has many layers to it, and each one will make someone cry. The only issue I see here is the one thing people aren't realizing, the batters weren't playing for 100s, they were batting for a DRAW. That was the goal. Draw the game. Once that was accomplished, and a result was out of the question a handshake was offered, that's the gentlemanly thing to do right? It's not then the time to realize they safe and now say no we'd prefer some free milestones… although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd. That said, they did bat well, and maybe with the last hour approaching they should have been more aggressive in reaching those milestones, at least then, we could all agree, no team tried to out do the other in this weird situation,'
