Bonalu festivities begin at Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad with grand devotion and tight security

Hyderabad, July 13 (UNI) The vibrant and sacred Ujjaini Mahankali Ammavari Bonalu celebrations commenced with much fervour in Secunderabad today.
The temple, steeped in tradition and faith, has been beautifully decorated, drawing large crowds of devotees chanting hymns in reverence to the goddess.
On behalf of the Telangana Government, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and his wife offered the first Bonam to the deity and performed special pujas, marking the ceremonial start of the festivities.
Thousands of devotees throng the Ujjaini Mahankali temple to offer Bonalu, creating a festive atmosphere in and around the temple premises. To ensure smooth darshan and crowd management, six queue lines have been set up, along with two separate lines for Bonam offerings. Devotees participating in the Shivasattu rituals have been granted special access between 1300 hours and 1500 hours, from RP Road and the Bata showroom.
Elaborate arrangements have been made by local authorities to facilitate the celebrations. Multiple parking zones have been arranged along key routes leading to the temple. The Lashkar administration and Hyderabad City Police have ensured that all facilities are in place to maintain a peaceful and safe atmosphere for the devotees.
In view of the heavy turnout and presence of dignitaries, tight security arrangements have been enforced. Over 2,500 police personnel have been deployed, including Law and Order units, She Teams, and the Task Force. Additionally, 200 CCTV cameras have been installed across the temple premises and surrounding areas to monitor the situation in real-time.
Adding to the spiritual grandeur, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit the Ujjaini Mahankali temple today, accompanied by several ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and VIPs. Security has been intensified around the temple in anticipation of the CM's visit.

UK PM faces mounting pressure to recognise Palestine as a state post French recognition

London, July 25 (UNI) The administration of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government is facing growing calls — both from within the political opposition as well as social groups -- to extend recognition to Palestine as a sovereign state, following France's decision to formally extend recognition in September. The move by French President Emmanuel Macron has stirred a renewed debate in Westminster over the UK's long-standing position on the issue, reports BBC. According to a report released today by the Foreign Affairs Committee, senior parliamentarians have been urging the government to act without delay. It comes as senior Labour MPs, as well as Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey, intensify pressure on Downing Street to ensure the UK does not 'fall behind' its European counterparts. Although successive UK governments have expressed support for a two-state solution, Britain has yet to grant official recognition to Palestine. Starmer himself has previously stated that such recognition should come 'at the moment of maximum impact,' though he has not outlined specific conditions or a timeline. The UK's Minister for the Middle East, Peter Kyle, reiterated that the government remains committed to recognising Palestinian statehood, but emphasised that this must happen when sovereignty can be exercised in practice. Appearing on BBC Breakfast, he did not give a date, and instead stressed the urgency of the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. 'Our priority today is to focus on the emergency we have before us — to get food on people's plates and support those in urgent need,' he said. 'It is a manifesto commitment of this government that we want to establish statehood for Palestine. But it needs to happen in a way that is empowering and delivers the long-term peace and stability that Palestine needs.' Kyle added that the Prime Minister is convening a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Germany's opposition leader Friedrich Merz to address the worsening conditions in the region. Despite growing calls for action, Downing Street maintains that a ceasefire is the immediate priority. Starmer has so far refrained from confirming whether the UK would follow France's example, amid concerns that premature recognition could complicate diplomatic efforts or diverge too far from Washington's stance. Meanwhile, grassroots organisations and human rights groups are ramping up advocacy efforts, arguing that recognition would bolster efforts for a viable peace process and offer a political lifeline to the Palestinian Authority. As international pressure builds, Starmer's administration faces a delicate balancing act — between humanitarian urgency, strategic diplomacy, and the expectations of its own parliamentary bench.

Jharkhand gears up for Independence Day; Chief Secretary reviews Ranchi, Dumka preparations

Ranchi, July 25 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari on Friday directed officials to ensure timely and seamless arrangements for Independence Day celebrations in Ranchi and Dumka, keeping in view the monsoon season. Chairing a high-level review meeting, she emphasized that flag hoisting must take place on time and national anthem protocol should be strictly followed. The main events will be held at Ranchi's Morabadi Ground, where the Chief Minister will hoist the tricolour, and at Dumka Police Lines, where the Governor will lead the ceremony. Tiwari instructed that the temporary stage at Morabadi be constructed to match previous years in size and meet safety standards. She also called for ensuring clear visuals on LED screens, adequate seating arrangements, drinking water, medical aid, temporary toilets, and uninterrupted power supply. Live telecast of the event and creation of a dedicated media enclosure have also been mandated. The Information and Public Relations Department will manage the public address system. Separate instructions were issued for traffic regulation, fire safety, parking, and coordinated parade rehearsals. The parade will include contingents from CRPF, JAP, IRB, district police, NCC, home guards, and fire brigade. Similar arrangements are to be replicated at the district level across Jharkhand. PM Modi, Maldivian President Muizzu hold restricted talks, followed by delegation level talks in Male

Male/New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu held talks in restricted format followed by delegation level talks in Male today, which are expected to be followed by the signing of several MoUs and the inauguration of joint initiatives, aimed at advancing cooperation across critical sectors of mutual interest. The delegation level talks lasted nearly an hour. PM Modi, who arrived in Male earlier in the day on a two-day state visit, was welcomed by President Muizzu at the Velana International Airport in a special gesture. PM Modi was extended a guard of honour as part of the ceremonial welcome, in the presence of senior representatives from both governments. Maldivian officials joined India's senior-most delegates, underscoring the diplomatic weight of the visit. The reception also featured a cultural performance by students of Majeedhiyaa School. The visit by PM Modi is his first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office for a third consecutive term and also the first since President Muizzu took office. PM Modi's visit comes as the Maldives celebrates its 60th anniversary of independence and also as the two nations mark six decades of formal ties. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote in Dhivehi, expressing his appreciation for being received at the airport by President Muizzu. He reiterated his belief that the bilateral partnership is poised to expand in the days ahead. "I have arrived in Malé. I am very pleased that President Muizzu was present at the airport to welcome me. I am confident that the relationship between India and the Maldives will ascend to new heights in the coming days," Prime Minister Modi stated. PM Modi also engaged with members of the Indian community residing in Malé, who had gathered at the airport to welcome him. "The citizens of India play a crucial role in advancing the friendship between India and the Maldives," he wrote. "I am pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with Indian citizens residing in the Maldives during this visit. I express my gratitude for the warm welcome extended." Earlier, Prime Minister Modi said it is an honour to participate in celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence. "I am honoured to be taking part in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives. This year we also mark 60 years of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. The talks with President Muizzu will certainly add momentum to bilateral ties across diverse sectors," he wrote. President Muizzu had first travelled to New Delhi in June last year to attend Prime Minister Modi's swearing-in ceremony, followed by a state visit in October. UNI RN
