The Philadelphia Phillies will have their pick of relievers ahead of the trade deadline, but some will cost more than others.
Decisions will have to be made on how aggressive the team needs to be, and that will determine how much, if any, success the Phillies have in the postseason. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report believes the team could target Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase.
HOUSTON, TEXAS - JULY 07: Emmanuel Clase #48 of the Cleveland Guardians pitches in the ninth inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on July 07, 2025 in Houston, Texas.
HOUSTON, TEXAS - JULY 07: Emmanuel Clase #48 of the Cleveland Guardians pitches in the ninth inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on July 07, 2025 in Houston, Texas."Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians would fit that bill about as well as anyone," wrote Kelly. "He won the Mariano Rivera Award as the best reliever in the AL last season, and after a slow start to 2025, he's got a 1.33 ERA over his 27 innings of work."
Here is the full trade breakdown:
Phillies acquire: RHP Emmanuel Clase
Guardians acquire: RHP Mick Abel, SS Aidan Miller (Phillies No. 2 prospect), RHP Jean Cabrera (Phillies No. 12 prospect)
The Phillies have reportedly mentioned top prospect Andrew Painter as being the only true untouchable, but this deal would show a sense of urgency to win.
"Shortstop Aidan Miller -- currently MLB Pipeline's No. 22 prospect in baseball -- could headline this trade," wrote Kelly. "If the Guardians got a package that included Miller, RHP Mick Abel and pitching prospect Jean Cabrera, that would be a fair deal for both sides. This would represent the biggest deal between Philadelphia and Cleveland since the July 2009 Cliff Lee trade."
Clase has a few years of team control remaining, so the Phillies would go into any trade talks knowing a package like this would be necessary. However, that doesn't mean it's not a huge risk for them to take.

Jacob Misiorowski addresses anger, criticism over his selection to MLB All-Star Game: 'They're not upset with me'
A lot of people are upset about Jacob Misiorowski making the MLB All-Star Game. Misiorowski himself is surprised by his selection. But he's confident that critics aren't actually mad at him. The Milwaukee Brewers pitching phenom addressed the criticism of his late addition to the All-Star Game on Monday. Advertisement "They're not upset with me," Misiorowski said per ESPN. He's almost certainly right in most instances. People aren't mad at Misiorowski for a decision that was out of his hands. But plenty are critical that he made the NL All-Star team despite playing just five games, the fewest in MLB history for a player selected to the All-Star Game. Nobody's doubting Misiorowski's All-Star talent. The 23-year-old has taken baseball by storm with a fastball that regularly exceeds 100 mph, a devastating slider and a diving curveball that have combined to baffle MLB hitters since Misiorowski made his MLB debut for the Brewers on June 12. The result is a sterling 2.81 ERA and 0.896 WHIP with 33 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched. But it's the 25 2/3 innings tally that's got baseball in an uproar ahead of Tuesday's All-Star Game. Jacob Misiorowski is as surprised as the critics of his selection that he's an All-Star. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) MLB players sound off on Misiorowski's selection Despite Misiorowski's tremendous performance on the mound, there are inarguably better candidates for his roster spot who have played throughout the first half of the season. Philadelphia Phillies pitchers Ranger Suárez (1.94 ERA, 78 Ks in 83 2/3 IP) and Cristopher Sánchez (2.50 ERA, 122 Ks in 115 IP) are among them. Advertisement Their Phillies teammates were furious when MLB announced Friday that Misiorowski would replace Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd on the NL roster. 'What a joke,' Trea Turner told The Athletic of Misiorowski's selection. 'That's f***ing terrible. I mean, that's terrible, dude.' Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos joined his teammates in lambasting MLB. 'It's turning into the Savannah Bananas,' he said. But Atlanta Braves All-Star pitcher Chris Sale put things in perspective in terms of Misiorowski's experience. "Honestly, my first reaction was 'you can't take it out the kid, right?" Sale told the FanDuel Sports Network. "All he's done is go out there to do the best he can to be a big leaguer and be a pitcher and try to help his team. "Some of the decisions that get made behind closed doors, that's not up to us. Again, if you love the move or you hate the move, you can't fault him for it. He's just here trying to do the best he can. He deserves to enjoy this experience as much as everybody instead of being stressed out thinking if this guy's liking him or that guy's not liking him. ... "At the end of the day, the guy got named an All-Star, and he deserves to enjoy this experience as much as anybody." That's the perspective that Misiorowski is certainly hoping for from his fellow All-Stars and ideally the one he'll experience on Tuesday. Whatever his experience is in Atlanta, it won't be what he was planning for. Advertisement "The last five weeks have been insane," Misiorowski said. "I thought the All-Star break would be a chance to sit down and reflect. Now we're here."

Phillies Reportedly Scouting Twins Relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax
Phillies Reportedly Scouting Twins Relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no bigger need for the Philadelphia Phillies at the MLB trade deadline than a reliever. Jordan Romano has struggled, Jose Alvarado has been suspended and the rest of the bullpen has been shaky. Advertisement The Phillies are looking especially closely at the American League Central to address the need. They've been linked to Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, and more recently, the Phillies are reportedly scouting a pair of Minnesota Twins relievers. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are targeting Minnesota's Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran, and hope to land one or both of those relievers at the trade deadline. "The Philadelphia Phillies have been extensively scouting Minnesota Twins relievers Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax," Nightengale writes, "hoping to acquire at least one of them." Either would be a nice pickup, with both relievers under team control through the 2027 season. Of the two, Duran is the most intriguing. Advertisement Duran (27) is younger than Jax (30) and has been having a better season than his teammate. Through 43 appearances, Duran has a 1.49 ERA, a 5-3 record and 15 saves. Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob ThomsonCharles LeClaire-Imagn Images Across Duran's 42.1 innings pitched, he has 47 strikeouts, 16 walks and a 1.087 WHIP, and he has yet to give up a home run. Duran also has a career-high 284 ERA+ this season, yet he isn't an All-Star. He's easily one of the top options for the Phillies at the deadline, but if he proves too expensive or challenging to land, Jax could be a nice fallback option. In 2024, Jax was one of the best relievers in the game. He had a 2.03 ERA in 71 innings pitched with 95 strikeouts and 15 walks. Advertisement This season has been a bit different. Through his 40.1 innings pitched, Jax has a 4.02 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 10 walks. Last season, he had an ERA+ of 207, but in 2025, his ERA+ is at 105, barely above league average. His struggles would seemingly make him more available than Duran, but if the Phillies could get him back to 2024 form, they'd have a strong reliever in their bullpen. Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr.
Phillies Get Mets Update on All-Star Outfield Target Luis Robert Jr. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have continued to be linked to Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox, with the trade deadline in about two weeks. Advertisement If the Phillies want Robert, it'll likely take a decent package to land the overrated slugger, as many teams are expected to be interested in him. According to a recent report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, eight teams have checked in on the outfielder. He later added that the Phillies and New York Mets, among others, are likely potential fits. 'Eight teams have checked in on talented but struggling CF Luis Robert Jr., and if the White Sox can trade him before confronting that $20M option decision, they need to do it. 'The Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Royals and Mets look like potential fits. Some believe he'd regain form as a complementary player elsewhere,' he wrote. Advertisement Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski (left) and manager Rob Thomson (59) (right) watch bullpen sessions during spring training workouts at BayCare Ballpark. As Heyman touched on, it wouldn't be too surprising to see him figure things out on a different team. The Phillies are one of the better teams in Major League Baseball and should have an opportunity to win a World Series if things go as planned over the next few weeks and months, depending on what they do at the trade deadline. However, Dave Dombrowski has to be careful here. If the Mets land him, that obviously wouldn't be ideal, but it isn't like Robert has been some superstar player throughout the past few years, as some want to suggest. He has a 67 OPS+, 92 strikeouts, a .189 batting average, and just nine home runs in 264 at-bats this season.
