Two Notre Dame rivalries are among the best in college football
Before kickoff, college football rivalries bring families, friends and colleagues closer together. The outcome instantly divides those same people. But which ones rise above the rest in the nation? pic.twitter.com/Y76gDXpzrm
Two Notre Dame rivalries have been nominated among the top 25 in college football in a list produced by The Athletic.
They are, unsurprisingly, the matchups against USC and Michigan.
Notre Dame faces USC just about every season, with last year's meeting in Los Angeles going to the Fighting Irish, 49-35.
It's perhaps a tick more notable that Notre Dame-Michigan makes the list, considering that the two schools haven't met since 2019 and are not scheduled to meet again until 2033.
The Fighting Irish versus Trojans rivalry made the number five spot on the list, while Notre Dame-Michigan is 18th.
Of course, both rivalries have led to memorable moments, such as the Bush Push.
The top four rivalries are all classics -- none will surprise. Michigan-Ohio State tops the list, followed by Auburn-Alabama, Oklahoma-Texas and Army-Navy.
The rest of the top 10 include Nebraska-Oklahoma, Miami (Fl)-Florida State, Ohio State-Penn State, Florida-Florida State and Minnesota-Wisconsin.
Other notables on the list include USC-UCLA, Texas-Texas A&M and Harvard-Yale.

Oklahoma Sooners pitcher transferring to LSU Tigers
Former Oklahoma Sooner softball pitcher Peytn Monticelli announced she was committing to the LSU Tigers on Monday. Monticelli arrived in Norman following the 2023 season and spent two years with the Sooners, helping Oklahoma win its fourth-straight title in 2024. Monticelli appeared in 34 games over two seasons and held a 2-0 record in her time with Oklahoma. After posting a 1.09 ERA across 19.1 innings in 2024, the former Wisconsin Badger had a down year in 2025. She had a 3.94 ERA in 21.1 innings this season and threw just one inning in the NCAA Tournament. She'll join an LSU Tigers squad that lost pitcher Sydney Berzon to Oklahoma via the transfer portal. In addition to Berzon, the Oklahoma Sooners will also welcome the No. 1 pitcher in the 2025 recruiting class, Alyssa Parker, as well as the No. 5 pitcher in the cycle, Berkley Zache. Senior Kierston Deal and sophomore Audrey Lowry will be back for 2026 as will redshirt freshman Sophia Bordi, who took some time away from the team toward the end of the season, but will be back with the team this fall. Monticelli joins an LSU squad that finished ninth in the SEC in 2025. She provides the Tigers with a veteran arm out of the bullpen and brings heat to the circle. She released a statement on social media thanking Sooner Nation for the memories. Monticelli said, "Thank you, Sooner Nation, for supporting me these past two years. This was not an easy decision to make. I have loved everything about being a Sooner and am so grateful for every single person I have met along my journey with this program. Norman will always be a special place to me." Contact/Follow us @SoonersWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oklahoma news, notes, and opinions. DJ Lagway dealing with new injury, per reports
Florida starting quarterback DJ Lagway is in a walking boot, according to Zach Goodall of Swamp247. Lagway is dealing with a "new lower-body injury," per Goodall, and it is being described as "minor and not of long-term concern." It's the latest in a series of offseason injuries for the former five-star quarterback. Lagway didn't throw in spring camp and took a ceremonial snap at the Orange and Blue Game while rehabbing his throwing shoulder, and he also dealt with a "hernia-type" issue. The Gators start spring camp later this week, and the first game of the season is 33 days away. Lagway won't be needed for the entirety of the season opener against Long Island, but it's a red flag if he's unable to play at all. Lagway has spent the bulk of his early career dealing with injuries. He's not an injury-prone player, but rather an unlucky one. Staying healthy is priority No. 1 for Lagway this season. If he can play all of Florida's games, the Gators have a chance to field one of the more exciting offenses in the SEC. If he goes down, it's Harrison Bailey time, which might draw a bit less fanfare. Takeaways from Deion Sanders' press conference updating his health
Deion Sanders shocked the sports world Monday morning, announcing that he battled and is now cured from bladder cancer. While it was not the traditional opening to fall camp that one expected, Sanders provided the Colorado team and its fans with much-needed clarity on his health status ahead of the upcoming season. Sanders did not discuss anything directly related to the team, despite it being the first day of camp; instead, he focused solely on his health. With so much discussed during Monday's press conference, we broke down everything that was said into five key takeaways. Deion Sanders is cured of bladder cancer The most significant piece of news to emerge from the press conference is that Deion Sanders is cancer-free. After a relatively short battle with bladder cancer, Sanders and his oncologist, Janet Kukreja, said that he is cured after the removal of his entire bladder. The Colorado football program couldn't ask for better news going into the season, as Sanders' cancer battle is behind him. Sanders' cancer was caught early Despite not having any symptoms, Sanders' cancer was caught early, allowing for the removal of the bladder before the cancer spread. The cancer was caught during a routine CT scan that Sanders received after dealing with blood clot issues in the past. He chose a treatment plan beneficial to his life goals Sanders is a father of five and the head football coach of a Power Four program; making weekly visits to a hospital to receive cancer treatments was not in his plans. Sanders instead chose to remove his bladder, which included a prosthetic bladder made from his intestine. Colorado football will be immensely motivated this season If playing for Coach Prime was not motivating enough, every player on Colorado's roster will now be playing for a coach who fought cancer a certain way so he could coach them this fall. That is inspirational for the entire locker room. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
