Gurugram to link pvt hospitals, ambulances with 112 helpline
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Haryana, the Gurugram traffic police will integrate private hospitals and ambulance operators with the Dial-112 police control room to ensure immediate medical response during the 'golden hour' following road accidents, officials said. The move, to be implemented within a fortnight, aims to reduce fatalities by speeding up rescue and treatment efforts.
'The aim is to bring down fatalities by providing an injured person immediate medical attention, for which the central government's scheme of cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh at empanelled hospitals is already available,' said Rajesh Kumar Lohan, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
Lohan chaired a meeting on Monday at the Traffic Tower in Sushant Lok Phase I, Sector 43, attended by over 50 representatives from private and government hospitals and ambulance operators. Under the plan, mobile data terminals will be installed at hospitals, enabling real-time alerts from the police about nearby accidents. 'We will ensure that the nearest hospital swings into action,' Lohan said.
Officials added that the Gurugram traffic police are coordinating with the state health department and district administration to persuade more non-empanelled hospitals to join the scheme. Currently, more than 50 private hospitals in Gurugram are empanelled under the Centre's scheme, which has already benefitted over 250 accident victims in the city since it was implemented in March this year.
'We hope to bring more private agencies under the Ayushman Bharat scheme to strengthen the system,' Lohan said. A standard operating procedure (SOP) will also be framed to ensure periodic inspection of ambulances and verify the availability of life-saving equipment and medicines.
Hospital representatives raised several operational challenges, which officials said will be addressed promptly. In 2024, Gurugram recorded 1,024 road crashes, including 456 fatal accidents that claimed 478 lives. 'Even a single death ruins a family's future. We need to make our rescue systems more effective and roads safer,' Lohan said.

We didn't know about any cashless scheme. When we asked the hospital authorities if there was any govt scheme for poor people, they appeared clueless," she told TOI. Raj Kumar, who accompanied a relative to a private hospital after a recent bike accident, was equally helpless. "We have no idea about any such scheme. There is no medical insurance available either. My relative's treatment is weighing heavy on our pockets," he said, waiting at the emergency ward. "We are awaiting orders from the govt and district administration," said the spokesperson for a private hospital in Noida Sector 62. Officials insisted the scheme would be rolled out soon. "It will be implemented through the Ayushman Bharat plan. Hospitals enlisted under Ayushman Bharat will provide free services to accident victims. The draft policy on its implementation is being prepared. The health department will notify soon," said Mayank Jyoti, ARTO (road safety). Meanwhile, on the other side of NCR — in Gurgaon and Faridabad — and other districts of Haryana, the state govt has issued fresh instructions to bring on board hospitals not empanelled under Ayushman Bharat under the accident scheme. Low participation, however, has been a cause for concern because of unviable reimbursement rates and infrastructure limitations. On June 4, the directorate general of health services ordered the inclusion of other private hospitals to expand the scheme's reach. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) welcomed the move, but raised concerns over the lack of clarity on empanelment procedures and billing mechanisms. In other cities, like Indore, MP govt has asked all city hospitals to register for the scheme and coordinate with the district road safety committee for implementation. The scheme, to be implemented in coordination with the State Road Safety Council and National Health Authority, underwent pilot testing in six states and Union territories in March and received a budget allocation of Rs 272 crore for 2025-26. It promises free medical care up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims or treatment for the first seven days. The delay in its implementation is all the more concerning given India's road safety statistics. Over the past decade, road crashes have claimed more than 13 lakh lives nationwide. According to a report by the Law Commission of India, 50% of these deaths involved preventable injuries, where timely medical intervention could have saved lives. UP reported 33,088 accidents and 17,930 deaths through 2024 and in the first five months of this year, according to the road accident data dashboard.

1 2 Lucknow: An alleged scam of Rs 10 crore in fraudulent medical insurance claims under Ayushman Bharat and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya schemes at several private hospitals of Uttar Pradesh has been busted. An FIR was registered at Hazratganj police station on Monday. BK Srivastava, the state nodal officer of the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), filed the FIR alleging large-scale irregularities in the processing and approval of medical claims submitted by private hospitals empanelled under the two schemes. The FIR stated that between May 1 and May 22, 2025, a total of 6,239 claims from 39 private hospitals in UP were processed and paid through the centralised online system linked to the National Health Authority's digital portal. A routine audit raised concerns when an unusual volume of high-value claims was processed during odd hours, particularly late at night. Further analysis revealed that the login credentials of key officials, including Implementation Support Agency (ISA) staff, financial officers, and the CEO of SACHIS, were misused to approve these claims without proper scrutiny or authorisation. ISA officials denied any involvement, saying that none of the disputed claims were routed or approved through their system. Investigations revealed that the login IDs were hacked or misused to clear claims for hospitals not eligible for such reimbursements or had exaggerated treatment data. Irregularities were noticed when payments appeared inflated compared to volume of patients reportedly treated under the scheme. Following internal review and verification from the ISA, it became evident that the online recommendations for claim settlements did not come from the actual users, suggesting a systemic breach. Further audits may reveal a larger figure. Sources said govt has formed an inquiry committee to assess internal lapses within SACHIS.

80pc work for Rath Yatra in Puri completed, says Odisha law minister
Bhubaneswar, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday said that about 80 per cent of the work for smooth organisation of annual Rath Yatra in Puri is complete. The Rath Yatra of the Lord Jagannath will be held on June 27. The second coordination meeting to discuss the preparations for the famous chariot festival was held in Puri under the chairmanship of Harichandan during the day. Lakhs of devotees gather in the seaside town every year on the occasion. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Harichandan said about 80 per cent of the work for the festival has been completed, while the remaining job will come to an end before the Rath Yatra. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, this year's Rath Yatra will be completed smoothly with the cooperation of all, the law minister asserted. The administration of Lord Jagannath's temple in Puri functions under the law department of the state government. Asked about the measures taken in view of the spread of Covid-19, Harichandan said neither the Centre nor the state health department has any advisory for it. 'However, we will take all precautionary measures as per the advice of the health department,' he added. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, who also attended the meeting, said that 300 doctors will be deployed in Puri for the festival. A temporary burn unit and ICU have been set up in the pilgrim city, he said. Besides, 15 permanent 15 ICU beds will also be opened in Puri before Rath Yatra, Mahaling said. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the accommodation, facilities, security, traffic management, sanitation, power supply and organised darshan for the devotees, as well as the timely completion of rituals and ceremonies. Several other ministers also attended the meeting.
