I am happy as speaker, says Tawadkar on cabinet buzz
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday said he has so far done justice to the office he holds. He said he was content with it and that inducting him into the cabinet or otherwise was for the chief minister and party brass to decide.
'I made the best use of the speaker's post… minister or no minister, it makes no difference to me. I have enough potential to work for the welfare of society,' he said.
Tawadkar dismissed suggestions that differences between him and minister Govind Gaude caused a rift in the tribal community. 'There are differences in every community,' he said.
The Canacona MLA said he dissociated himself from the United Tribals Associations' Alliance (UTAA), of which Gaude is a key functionary, after the infamous violent 2011 agitation at Balli.
After the 2012 assembly polls, he became a part of govt. 'They wanted to go the path of confrontations and agitations, while I, as tribal welfare minister, couldn't agree to it, and we parted ways,' Tawadkar said, adding that he hasn't been an active member of any tribal organisation since.
Tawadkar further said he hasn't encountered any problem dealing with the tribal welfare department so far. His remarks came in the backdrop of speculations that a reshuffle of the cabinet was on the cards and that Gaude could be dropped to make way for Tawadkar.

Acquisition of another 97 Tejas, 6 AEW&C aircraft gets CCS nod
New DELHI: India on Tuesday gave the final nod for acquisition of another 97 indigenous Tejas fighter jets and six advanced airborne early-warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft or "eyes in the sky", collectively worth around Rs 85,500 crore, which will be crucial to tackle the collusive and 'fused' challenge from China-Pakistan in the years ahead. The PM-led cabinet committee on security (CCS) approved the Rs 66,500 crore deal for 97 "improved" Tejas Mark-1A fighters to be produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which will add to the 83 such single-engine light combat aircraft already ordered from defence PSU under a Rs 46,898 crore deal inked in Feb 2021, top sources told TOI. "The first two jets of the 83 ordered earlier are fully ready. The final weapons firing trials (including Astra air-to-air missiles) are slated for Sept. With the order for another 97 jets, HAL will be able to expand and stabilise its supply chains," a source said. Faced with flak from IAF chief Air Chief Marshal A P Singh for huge delays in deliveries, HAL has promised to progressively scale up production to 20 Tejas per year, and then to 24-30 per year, with the third production line now fully functional in Nashik to add to the two existing ones at Bengaluru, apart from private sector supply chains. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Keep Compliance Easy With These Identity Governance Tools AskLayers Learn More Undo The project for six AEW&C aircraft, which will entail mounting active electronically scanned array antenna-based radars, electronic and signal intelligence systems on second-hand Airbus-321 planes bought earlier from Air India, in turn, will cost Rs 19,000 crore. "All six AEW&C aircraft will be delivered by 2033-34," the source said. Timely induction of the 180 Tejas Mark-1A fighters is needed to stem rapid depletion in the number of IAF fighter squadrons (each has 16-18 jets), which will go down to its lowest-ever figure of 29 squadrons next month after retirement of the 36 old MiG-21s still in service. IAF, incidentally, is authorised 42.5 combat squadrons. Pakistan now has 25 fighter squadrons, and is slated to get at least 40 J-35A fifth-generation stealth jets from China in the near future. China, of course, has more than four times the number of fighters, bombers and force-multipliers as compared to India. In the AEW&C arena, which are required to boost surveillance capabilities along the borders as well as help direct friendly fighters during air combat with enemy jets, India lags far behind even Pakistan. IAF currently has just three Netra AEW&C Mark-1 planes, with indigenous sensors mounted on Brazilian Embraer-145 jets for 240-degree radar coverage, and three Israeli 'Phalcon' radars mounted on Russian IL-76 aircraft. The new AEW&C project will involve the A-321 narrow-body aircraft first being "hardened and modified" in Spain and then being equipped with an antenna in the nose in addition to the main dorsal antenna to give 300-degree radar coverage. To make up numbers, defence ministry in March also accorded the initial "acceptance of necessity" to a separate project for six Netra Mark-1A on Embraer-145 jets, with more advanced technologies than the first three Mark-1 aircraft. On the Tejas front, IAF till now has got 38 of the first 40 Tejas Mark-1 fighters ordered for Rs 8,802 crore under two contracts inked in 2006 and 2010.

DC receives grievances from public in Hubballi
Pic: Dharwad deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu received 20 complaints and grievances from the public in Hubballi Hubballi: As part of the Janasnehi district administration, deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu received 20 complaints and grievances from the public at the tahsildar's office in Hubballi on Tuesday. The grievances received from the public sought housing for the poor, roads to farming fields, and HDMC-related issues such as clearing of encroachments, building permissions, revenue issues, and others. Farmers from Revadihal villages urged that they have around 360 acres of farming land, but a lack of roads to reach this land is causing many problems for the farmers. Some portions of the road have been encroached upon. They requested the department in 2023 but did not receive results. An Ashrara committee member submitted a grievance regarding the land use information proposed to provide housing for the poor of Rayanal and other villages. Since the commissioner passed a letter to the tahsildar, no information has been provided yet. He urged the DC to provide land use information at the earliest. Speaking to the reporters, DC Divya Prabhu said that the grievances received from the public will be solved in a month and will be monitored through the Integrated Public Grievance Redressal System portal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Successful Way of Intraday Trading is "Market Profile" TradeWise Learn More Undo The applications received will be uploaded to the IPGRS portal. State poised to become a hub for critical minerals: CM
Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said the state is poised to become a hub for critical minerals. "The energy capital Singrauli district has a rich deposit of rare earth elements (REEs) adding immensely to the voluminous deposit of minerals in Madhya Pradesh. With a vast mineral reserve, Madhya Pradesh will help India to do away with the dependence on countries like China," he said. An official press release issued here on Tuesday evening said Union minister for coal and mines G Kishan Reddy had informed Parliament that this was the first time such a massive deposit of rare earth elements has been found in India. "This achievement will prove a milestone in making India self-reliant in green energy, electronics, and defense technologies." Rare earth elements are considered the foundation of modern technology. Until now, India has been dependent on China and other countries for these minerals. The discovery in Singrauli will free India from this import dependency and place it at the forefront of global competition. In the coming years, this discovery will not only advance the "Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)" initiative but also accelerate industrial development. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Born 1939-1969 Receive 16 Benefits This Month If They Ask Super Saving Online Undo A study by Coal India Limited found promising concentrations of REEs (such as scandium, yttrium, etc) in the coal mines and rocks of Singrauli. The average concentration is estimated at 250 ppm in coal and around 400 ppm in non-coal strata. The official announcement of this discovery was made in July. Experts believe that in the future, coal ash and overburden could also serve as secondary sources of critical minerals. Following the discovery of REEs, the state govt is now working on developing the necessary infrastructure for their processing, research and exploration. A delegation from the mineral resources department recently visited the Bhopal unit of Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) to discuss potential collaboration. The department is also exploring the possibility of establishing a Center of Excellence for RREs to provide a world-class platform for research training, and industry. With the newfound treasure in Singrauli district, the country will become self-reliant in green energy, electric vehicles and high-tech industries.
