Unfortunately, You Watched ‘Fantastic Four' The Wrong Way This Weekend
Fantastic Four has great critic and audience reviews, and had a solid opening weekend of $218 million, already passing up its reported budget. While you may have enjoyed watching the movie this weekend, there is a 97% chance you…did it wrong. Mild spoilers follow.
It was not widely broadcast, but this is a film that you should have watched in IMAX, similar to how a movie like Sinners was recently bolstered by that kind of release. The movie was in fact shot in IMAX, but past that, Fantastic Four: First Steps had a filming decision by Matt Shakman that was rather cool. Any time you saw Galactus, the film switched to the 'square' 1.43:1 format, as opposed to 1.90:1 which is the IMAX format the rest of the movie is shot in.
To his credit, Shakman did say this was happening before release, but if you did not see that out of the hundreds of interviews he and the cast gave, I wouldn't blame you. He had an interview to IMAX about the process and while he said he didn't want to 'ruin' when that happened, it came out before the movie aired anyway.
Again, most fans did not realize this until after the fact, and social media has now been filled with images of what viewers were 'missing' if they did not see the movie or its Galactus parts in IMAX:
These tweets have racked up hundreds of thousands of likes and millions of views in some instances, so perhaps word of mouth may spread that this is the 'best' way to view the movie. Even doing this for a living, I didn't realize that this was the case. Not that the film looked bad by any means in a normal theater, visually (it's one of the best Marvel has done in a while), but this still would have been cool to see. I really, really loved Sinners switching to 1.90:1 during its biggest scenes, and this would have been a neat way to bolster the sheer size of Galactus.
Speaking of the sheer size of Galactus, what exactly happens to his giant world-eating ship that's just hanging out in orbit without him or even Silver Surfer around to pilot it? I'm guess Reed can figure out some way to repurpose it. That, or a more nefarious force whom we may be seeing rather soon…
In any case, if you haven't seen Fantastic Four yet, you should probably find your local IMAX theater to do so.

Stockton city manager investigates $50,000 payment tied to "Wild 'n Out" event
The Stockton City Manager's Office announced Tuesday that an investigation has been launched into a $50,000 payment made months ago. This was allegedly to prevent the cancellation of a comedy show that Vice Mayor Jason Lee was involved with. The "Wild 'n Out" comedy show happened in May at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton. Lee is friends with some of the performers and posted a video of him participating in the event on his Facebook page. The city manager says it has recently come to light that $50,000 from the city's risk mitigation fund was used in connection with the event without his knowledge or approval. Lee is also calling for an independent, outside investigation into all of this, calling it a politically motivated retaliation. He believes this is all in response to his own investigation into budget and hiring concerns by the city manager's office. He discussed this during Monday's Audit Committee meeting. "This whole week has been a political witch hunt to prove somehow that the vice mayor conspired with city staff to go in the bank accounts to give $50,000 to a brand that lost $175,000 on top of the $50,000 in an approved fund that they've used in the past," Lee said in the meeting. "It was also an opportunity to silence the voice of staff who are bringing forward serious concerns with respect to internal controls that are out of control." Mayor Christina Fugazi also commented on his investigation into the city manager's office. "An outside investigator will be looking into money that was authorized to be spent that maybe shouldn't have, or I'm not quite sure. I only say that because it didn't go through the city manager, and all of that kind of stuff should be going through the city manager," Mayor Fugazi said. "Anything that has to do with disbursement of funds, the city manager should know about." Lee also says the Audit Committee reviewed the city's partnership with ASM Global, the event promoter of "Wild 'n Out," created by Nick Cannon. Lee says the committee's recommendation for an outside investigation will go before the city council immediately. The interim city manager says his investigation will look into whether any city policies or procedures were bypassed and if any lines were crossed.

Disney has previously reported that its streaming business has reached profitability, a metric that has outranked the importance of subscriber growth for media companies. Disney also announced in May that it reached a deal to bring a theme park and resort to Abu Dhabi — its seventh theme park resort as the company continues to expand internationally. Disney's experiences business, which includes parks, cruises and resorts as well as consumer products, reported 6% year-over-year revenue growth last quarter.
