AI plus campus at BITS Pilani
Addressing the Class of 2025 at BITS Pilani's Convocation, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla delivered an inspiring message to young graduates stepping into a world marked by both contradictions—uncertainty and opportunity, disruption and innovation."You are all, of course, passing out at a time of great global uncertainty. We are all being buffeted by the crosswinds of geopolitical turmoil and relentless technological disruption. The world appears uncertain and paradoxical in equal measure," Birla said during his address. He continued, highlighting the surreal nature of global events, "Take the month of June — it seemed like we were at the brink of World War III, with headlines warning of escalating conflict and disruptions to global trade. Yet benchmark indices in the US hit record highs. It is a world where anxiety and optimism co-exist."Birla, whose group spans industries from telecom and metals to fashion and retail, urged students — to live a generative life, a concept that resonates in an age dominated by artificial intelligence "Today, in an age of generative AI, there is much discussion about what machines can produce. But I invite you to consider instead the idea of a generative life — one fuelled by deliberate creative energy,' he said."A generative life is one that creates lasting value. It is the capacity to build what endures. It means choosing to make things better. It is about cultivating resilience or the ability to regenerate after setbacks. It is about stewardship—or the responsibility to impact institutions and communities in a way that they are stronger than when we found them."The renowned deemed university, BITS Pilani, is to set up its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Plus Campus in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said on Monday. He thanked Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Aditya Birla group and chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS)-Pilani, for selecting the southern state to set up the campus. In a post on X, Naidu said, the campus will offer world-class academic and industrial exposure."With cutting-edge programmes in AI, Data Science, Robotics, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Computational Linguistics, the campus will offer a dynamic, global model of education with international exposure and hands-on industry internships," he said. The Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh will become the hub of AI-driven education, producing leaders for global industries while strengthening local employment, innovation ecosystems and economic opportunities.Naidu further said that BITS Pilani's investment reflects Andhra Pradesh's readiness for next-generation education, ensuring top-notch infrastructure, ease of doing business and proactive governance for such transformative educational projects.

Bangalore Gears Up For Conquest, BITS Pilani's Pitching Event: Here's How To Register
VMPL New Delhi [India], August 8: Startup accelerators are on the rise, with more and more founders opting for them because of access to mentorship, industry leaders, funding opportunities and networks. A common goal for accelerators is ensuring that their startups have ample visibility in the ecosystem. A common way accelerators ensure this is through Demo Days--the idea is to bring together the entire ecosystem for a day full of networking, panel discussions, and most important: shark tank-style pitching sessions. BITS Pilani's flagship startup accelerator, Conquest, is one such accelerator program. While Conquest itself stands out as an accelerator for its unique zero-cost, zero-equity model (essentially meaning that founders don't have to give up anything to enter the cohort), the program demonstrates its pinnacle at its flagship event--the Demo Day, in Bengaluru. Through Conquest's seven-week long program, their cohort startups, shortlisted from close to 3000 applications from across the country, have experienced growth that would otherwise take months to achieve. Demo Day is their platform to showcase this growth to the Bengaluru ecosystem during their pitching slots. Demo Day also features panel discussions by ecosystem leaders like Akhil Gupta (NoBroker), Pulkit Jain (Vedantu), Prashant Pitti (EaseMyTrip), Srikanth Subramanian (Angel One), and Shyam Menon (Bharat Innovation Fund), sharing their perspectives on growth, resilience, and the future of entrepreneurship in India. Through the pitching contest, 13 startups will compete for non-dilutive grants and business credits, with the goal of giving them practical support for the next phase of their growth. For founders, Demo Day is a chance to learn from established industry leaders and connect with investors. For investors, the day offers an early look at new ideas and emerging sectors. In general, Demo Day offers an opportunity to experience the energy of the Indian startup ecosystem and get inspired by the next generation of entrepreneurs. Demo Day 2025 is scheduled for the 10th of August, and promises to bring together over 300 high-profile attendees, comprising 50+ founders, 40+ VC firms, 15+ media houses, and 20+ CXOs.

Grasim Q1 net profit up 32% as cement, paints, B2B platform scale up
Grasim Industries Ltd, the diversified flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, reported a 32 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended 30 June 2025, aided by strong performance in its cement and chemicals businesses, even as investments in new consumer verticals such as paints and B2B e-commerce continued. Net profit attributable to owners rose to ₹1,419 crore in Q1FY26, up from ₹1,075 crore a year earlier. Consolidated revenue grew 16 per cent year-on-year to ₹40,118 crore, while EBITDA surged 36 per cent to ₹6,430 crore, the company said in a filing on Friday. The quarter marks a milestone for Grasim, with trailing twelve-month (TTM) consolidated revenue crossing ₹1.5 trillion—doubling since FY21—on the back of broad-based growth. The cement segment, anchored by listed subsidiary UltraTech, remained the primary earnings driver. Cement volumes rose nearly 10 per cent year-on-year to 36.8 million tonnes, while EBITDA per tonne rose 37 per cent to ₹1,248. Grasim's aggressive bets on consumer platforms continue to gather momentum. Decorative paints venture Birla Opus, which launched earlier this year, saw double-digit revenue growth quarter-on-quarter and now ranks as India's third-largest decorative paints brand by internal estimates. Trial production at its sixth plant in Kharagpur is under way, with a full commercial launch expected by the end of Q2. Cumulative capex on the paints venture stood at ₹9,555 crore through June. The brand now offers 1,460 SKUs and operates in over 8,000 towns. Despite upfront costs weighing on margins, Grasim said the response to the brand's marketing and product rollout has been 'excellent'. The B2B construction materials platform Birla Pivot also continued its ramp-up, reporting steady quarter-on-quarter growth despite a monsoon-led sector slowdown. The marketplace now spans 40,000 SKUs across 35 product categories and is targeting ₹8,500 crore in revenue by FY27. Aditya Birla Capital, Grasim's financial services arm, posted an 8 per cent rise in revenue to ₹9,488 crore. Its total lending portfolio jumped 30 per cent year-on-year to ₹1.66 trillion, while total assets under management across insurance and asset management rose 20 per cent to ₹5.5 trillion. Grasim incurred ₹480 crore in capex during the quarter and has earmarked ₹2,263 crore for FY26. It is also progressing on its ₹2,000 crore Lyocell fibre project, expected to go live by mid-2027, the company said. The company said it stands to benefit from India's growth momentum, with key drivers including infrastructure, manufacturing expansion and rising consumer demand. 'Grasim is well placed to participate in the next chapter of India's growth,' the company said in its outlook.
