Kothalavadi is rooted in realities: Filmmaker Pushpa Arunkumar

Pruthvi Ambaar and Kavya Shaiva starrer Kothalavadi, produced under the PA Productions banner, hits theatres across Karnataka today (August 1). Directed by Sriraju, the film also features Rajesh Nataranga, Avinash, Bala Rajwadi, Mansi Sudhir, Raghu Ramanakoppa, and Chethan Gandarva in pivotal roles. Producer Pushpa Arunkumar shares, 'I'm proud to present my debut production venture. What drew me to this story is its strong native flavour — it felt close to our roots. As a producer, I want to bring stories from our soil to the screen, stories that can truly resonate with audiences. I've ensured the film stays true to its content without compromising on quality. I hope viewers will support us by watching it in theatres.' She adds, 'The film is named after Kothalavadi, a village in Chamarajanagar. The story is set in a village gripped by famine, where hope fades with each passing day due to the lack of rain. In the midst of this, a scrap dealer exploits the villagers' desperation, drawing them into the murky world of illegal sand mining — this sets the tone and premise of the film.'
